THERE WILL BE NO PA ANNOUNCEMENTS DUE TO AP TESTING

 

GENERAL

 

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS & FACULTY:  The library will be closed ALL day Tuesday, May 4 due to AP Testing.  We will be closed through lunch (including lunch) on Wednesday, May 5 due to AP Testing.  Teachers, please do not send students to the library at those times.  Thank you.

 

BAJA FRESH FUNDRAISER: Spanish Honor Society is having a fundraiser at Baja Fresh on Cinco de Mayo.  Please come and support the Spanish Honor Society.  Muchas Gracias.

 

ATTENTION ALL GIRLS SOCCER TEAMS:  See Mrs. Haro in the AP Office to pick up your Soccer certificates. 

 

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:  There is a meeting in room B-4 on Wednesday, May 6th at lunch for anyone interested in playing on the JV and Varsity girls’ volleyball team next year.

 

CHOIR FUNDRAISER:  Come to Jersey Mike’s, in the Canyon Country Library shopping center, May 6 from 5 to 8 p.m., to help support our Choir. 

 

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2010- yes that’s you juniors!  Are you interested in a personalized parking spot for your senior year?  If you are come by the ASB office and pick up your application outside the office.  There are some simple requirements this year so pick up your application early!  Only 75 spots will be personalized and its first come first serve.  Start your senior year off right!

 

AP TESTING:  Students are expected to attend classes when not taking an AP test. If you are absent from class during the morning or afternoon surrounding your AP test, the absence will not be excused.  If you arrive late, you will not be permitted to take the exam.  Make sure you arrive on time!  

WHAT TO BRING:  2 sharpened #2 pencils, Pens with blue or black ink, Social Security number (optional),  Calculator-AP calculus AB/BC,  AP physics B/C (ruler),  Statistics

WHAT NOT TO BRING: Cell phones/smartphones/bluetooth devices, PDAs, MP3 players,  Books, compasses, mechanical pencils, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, notes, colored pencils,  Scratch paper,  Watches that beep or have an alarm Portable listening or recording devices,  Computers,  Clothing with subject related information.  Food or drink (water bottles with no labels will be permitted).

 

HAVE YOU SEEN CANYON’S AMAZING COLOR GUARD?  Well, it's time for auditions for next year.  Auditions will be from May 11th to May 15th from 3:30-5 and May 19th from 3:30-6 in the band room.  Come see Mrs. Palmer in Q-6 (Band Room) if you have any questions.  No experience necessary. We hope to see you there!

 

 

CADRE Alert – Upcoming Parent Event for May 7, 2009.   Comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Reduction and Education Program.  Drug Awareness Presentation for Parents and Students--Saugus High School--Building S Lecture Hall--7: 30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The CADRE Program is proud to offer a free drug awareness education presentation. The program will be presented by Lt. Tom Larentz, a respected and well-known narcotics officer with the Glendale Police Department. MEETINGS

127 BIBLE CLUB meets today at lunch in the Choir Room.

 

THE YOUNG REPUBLICANS, Canyon High School's only politically sensitive organization, will meet this coming Thursday at lunch in room A-6.  On the schedule for Thursday is a formal debate dealing with the 2nd Amendment.  The Young Republicans welcome open and honest debate of all of the issues, in an intelligent fashion, so everyone is welcome, regardless of political bias or misjudgment.

 

SENIORS

ALAN SCHAEFFER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  This memorial scholarship honors a wonderful and dedicated math teacher who taught at Canyon for many years. Seniors who intend to become a teacher, attend college in the fall, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher are encouraged to get an application for this $250 scholarship from the counseling office. Deadline is May 12, 2009.

 

SENIORS:  COC Bonelli Scholarship: If you plan to attend COC full time (12 units) in the fall, you could win a $200 scholarship!  Come to the counseling office TODAY and pick up an application.  The application will be judged on your participation in school, outside activities, and your response to a few questions about your future goals.  A CANYON SENIOR WILL WIN! Deadline May 6, 2009.

 

ANY SENIOR wishing to audition for Senior Speaker for Graduation should sign up in Assistant Principals Office and pick up a speech/audition information sheet.  Please do this as soon as possible.  Auditions sign-ups will end on May 15.  Auditions are on the morning of May 20.

SENIOR STARS:  If you have been accepted to a 4-year college or university and plan on attending that school in the fall, please see Mrs. Hettema in the counseling office.  We will make a star in your honor and place it on the Senior Stars bulletin board.  Also, if you have received notice of any scholarships or awards, please let Mrs. Hettema know.  So far, the girls are outnumbering the guys almost 2-to-1 with stars.

 

CANYON THEATER GUILD:  This local theater organization is offering a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior.  Please visit the counseling office for an application and more information.  Applications are due to the Canyon Theatre Guild box office by May 10th.

 

TIM AND DANNY RENOLDS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  The Renolds Family is proud to award a $500 scholarship to a senior male athlete with a GPA BETWEEN  2.5-3.0 who is planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college.  Applications available in the counseling office.  Deadline is May 8, 2009.

 

 

 

 

SENIORS:  The Bill Tainter Scholarship Program is a program that offers high school students with disabilities a financial opportunity to become more independent and self-sufficient through higher education.  This year the program will offer five grants in the amount of $1,000 each to seniors who meet the following criteria:  Students with a diagnosed learning or physical disability graduating / transitioning from high school to a 2 or 4 year college or trade school; must have at least a 2.0 GPA.  Application are available at www.laccod.org Deadline is May 15.
