Physics (Period P3) Assignments

Final Project: The Egg Hurl (Otherwise known as the Tr-"EGG"-buchet.

The object is to create and construct a vehicle that will protect an uncooked hen’s egg while it is hurled 50-100 feet by the Physics Trebuchet. This competition is a physical test of your knowledge of impulse, momentum, kinetic energy, potential energy, and work.

Scoring favors successful designs, so make sure your egg survives! Also, the only students who receive an F on this project are those who choose not to do it.

The attached file contains all of the specifications for the project. No class time will be used to build these vehicles. It is all done at home.

This is the last chapter assignment for the semester.

Due to the shift last week, things are shifted this week:

Packet AND Quest are due Thursday, December 10th;

Test will be Monday December 14th.

REMEMBER: The egg projects are due this Friday, December 11th by 3:10.

This is a schedule change. Due to schedule changes this week, I am postponing the chapter 13 test until Monday, December 7.

This will create a one day shift for the assignments and test for chapter 14 as well. Those specific dates will be posted in the assignment for that chapter.

Chapter 13 Assignment

Packet is due Wednesday, December 2.
Quest is due Thursday, December 3.
Test is Friday, December 4.

No test this week.

Our topic this week is Einsteins theories of relativity which is timely since many people have to deal with their relatives this week.

Quest is due Tuesday evening.
The packet is due Wednesday.

Again, no test this week.

Chapter 12 (NOT 10) Assignment

The packet is due November 18th.

Quest is due November 19th.

The test is November 20th.

Also, we are doing a lab activity on the 18th. Wear Closed-Toe Shoes.

Chapter 9 homework.

Due to the Veterans' Day holiday, the packet will be due on Thursday, November 12th.

Quest is due that same evening.

The test for this chapter is Friday, November 13th.

Look for a detailed progress report coming home on Tuesday, November 10th.

Chapter 8 Assignments

The packet is due on Wednesday, October 28th.

Quest is due at the usual time on Thursday, November 5th.

The test is Friday, November 6th.

Also, there are labs on Friday, the 29th and Tuesday the 3rd. Wear Closed-Toe shoes.

Chapter 6 Assignment.

Quest is due at the regular time on Thursday the 15th.

The packet is due on the 16th before the test.

Parents: Have your child explain to you how they can move the Earth by jumping off a chair. They can write a sort description and you can sign it.

Note: Next week the packet will be due on Wednesday instead of Friday. This change will continue through the term. The packet will be due two days before the test.

Chapter 5 Assignments are due.

Quest is due October 8th by the standard time.

The packet is due October 9th before the test.

Parents: I am considering changing the date the packets are due. Any change like this would only be done to benefit your children. Currently, the packets are due the day of the test. The change would be to have the packets due on Wednesday (typically). As an activity, grading them is fairly quick and solutions could be posted for them to review prior to the test. Ideally, your child should be working on the packet in the first part of the week while they read the text. If a student waits to work on the packet until later in the week, not as much of a benefit will be gained. If I decide to do this, it will begin October 19th.

Chapter 4 assignments are due:

Quest Thursday night the 1st by the standard time.

The packet is due Friday the 2nd before the test.

Parents, try this experiment at home with your child:
Put a bag of flour or sugar in a cooler. (Do not make it too heavy.)
Lift the cooler with you on one side and your child on the other. Keep your arms straight. Do not bend your elbows.
Slowly step away from each other remembering to keep your arms straight.
What happens to the effort (force) needed to keep the cooler supported?
Have your child write up a description of what happened then you can sign it.
I will award extra credit for both of you.

Quest is due on September 17, 2009 at the usual time.

The packet is due (pages 4-7) on the 18th.

Test for chapter 3 is on the 18th.

Quest (Homework 02) is due Thursday evening, September 10th, by the standard time.

The packet is due Friday, September 11th, before the test.
