GENERAL

PSAT will be administered Saturday, October 18, starting promptly at 8:00 am.  Students are encouraged to arrive no later than 7:30 am outside of the gym.  By 7:45 am all students will be checked in and seated.   At 7:50, students on the wait-list will be assigned to the seats vacated by those students who are not in attendance.  There will be NO refunds to any students who arrive after 7:50 am even if your seat has been given a student on the wait-list.  Students on the wait-list will get a refund if a test is not available.  Please see Mrs. Hettema on Monday in the counseling office for your refund.  Doors will be closed and testing will begin promptly at 8:00 am.  Any student arriving after 8:00 am will not test!!!  Please be on time.

 

ROP Broadcast Journalism is looking for a few good students!  Would you like to earn six figures and be famous for reading the news?  Then this is the class for you!  We work out of a real television studio, we cover events throughout the city, and we create programing that is seen on Time-Warner Cable.  If you want to see your name on the credits of a television program, then see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office.  Sign up today!

 

JUNIORS OR SENIORS interested in taking a CAREER CLASS offered by ROP next semester need to see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office.  ROP’s Career Technical Education (CTE) offer students classroom instruction with relevant and, practical and work-based experiences that prepare students for post-secondary college and careers. Stop by the ROP office for a list of available classes, additional information or to sign up for a class.

 

CAREER SPOTLIGHT – HEALTHCARE:  Does a health profession interest you?  Explore a variety of options by taking one of the following ROP Healthcare classes:  Physical Therapy, Healthcare Occupations, Pharmacy, and Introduction to Nursing*.  For more information or to sign up for a career class, stop by the ROP office.

COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS - Careers-on-the-Go! Is having the following workshop on Early Childhood Education - Wednesday, Oct. 15th, 2014 - 6:00PM-7:30PM

FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, DFYIT is partnering with Family Promise, a local group that helps the homeless population, to collect as many new pairs of socks as possible during the month of October.  This is something that all high school DFYIT groups are participating in - let's beat all of the other high schools by collecting the most socks.  Socks can be for adults, children, male or female.  Just bring in a new pair of socks to Mrs. Parks in A-3.

COLLEGE VISITS ON CAMPUS!   Find the right MATCH for you!  We have several colleges that will be on campus, in H-1, during 5th period to meet with REACH classes.  If you would like to meet with the reps and learn more please come to H-1 in the first 10 minutes of lunch.

MEETINGS

 

STAND UP AND SPEAK UP!  Speak Up has meetings every Tuesday at lunch in the B Lecture Hall.

 

ANIME CLUB:  Come to room K-4 during lunch today and join the Anime Club!  Here we will learn about our favorite stories, learn how to draw Anime, and have a terrific time!  Everyone is welcome!  See you there!

 

BIBLE CLUB--Bible Club hasn't changed time or place.  We will meet Thursday at lunch in the A Lecture Hall.  We'll have great food, great discussion, and great fun!  See you there!

 

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB, YU-GI-OH and Vanguard and other board games meets every Wednesday and Friday in G-117.  Bring your lunch.  Questions, see Mr. Clark in G-117.

 

GSA SUPPORT GROUP meets TODAY in room C-4.

 

IMPORTANTE! Club Latino de Baile (Latino Dance Club): Come and join us Mondays for bachata, Tuesdays for cumbia and Thursdays for merengue. Practice takes place during lunch in room D-5.  Experience is not required. Hope to see you there!

 

 

 

 

 

 

SENIORS

 

SENIORS- The Horatio Alger Scholarship is available to students pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the U.S. or a two-year institution with the goal of transferring to a four-year institution. Students must demonstrate critical financial need and hold a minimum GPA of 2.0. The application deadline is October 25, 2014. To learn more and apply, visit  www.horatioalger.org/scholarships

 

CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY (located in Pittsburgh, PA) is having an Open House in the Los Angeles area for students and their families on Sunday, October 19th at 2 pm.  They will be meeting at the Irvine Marriott, 18000 Von Karman Ave., Irvine, 92612.  Register on-line or call 412.268.2082; RSVP required.  The hour-long session will let you know all about the school.
