Attention students . . .

Did you know Canyon has a new Mission Statement?

It reads:

"Our mission is to develop responsible citizens who have the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for either beginning post-secondary education or entering the workforce"

When you graduate - will you have what it takes to start your career?  Will you be ready for college?

If you are unsure about the answer to either of these questions, schedule a meeting with you counselor and/or career advisor today.  We can help . . .

GENERAL

REMINDER: The ASVAB test is tomorrow March 11th in the library. Please be there by 7:50, the test will begin at 8:00. There are practice questions available at www.asvabpractice.com . Any questions see Mrs. Bacon in the counseling office.

ATTENTION ALL 10th graders and any junior or senior who hasn’t passed one or both sections of the CAHSEE!

CAHSEE testing will be Tuesday March 18 and Wednesday March 19.  We will have a special bell schedule those days.  Please visit the CHS website to see the bell schedule.

Students taking the CAHSEE will receive an invitation letting them know where to go to take the test.  The invitations will be sent out March 12.  A reminder invitation will go out the day before the test.

Students taking the test are encouraged to arrive to school at 7:45 am to give them plenty of time to find their testing location.  Test takers should also have a healthy breakfast to fuel their mind and body.

JUNIORS - are you interested in attending a Leadership Opportunity over the summer?  Pepperdine University, which is in Malibu, is having its annual 5-day Youth Citizenship Seminar (YCS) from June 16th-June 20th.  Selected juniors will stay on campus, interact with today's leaders, explore current world and national topics and discuss constructive solutions.  Canyon can nominate 2 boys and 2 girls to go.  $20 dorm-room key deposit is required.  Academic ranking is not necessarily a pre-req for this opportunity; students that are active in Leadership, clubs, ASB, athletics, theater, music, or a wide variety of student activities may be interested.   If you are interested please see your counselor or Mrs. Trapani in the Counseling Office.  Nominations are due by March 17th to Mrs. Trapani in the Counseling Office.

ROP – CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION: Please encourage your sophomore or junior to stop by the ROP office and see the variety of classes available for next year.  These classes provide an excellent opportunity to learn about careers while earning high school credits.  All classes are taught by industry professionals.  These courses can provide students a great opportunity to learn about a career they may be interested in before spending the time and money on college-level courses.  Some of our courses have a course articulation agreement with COC.  For a current schedule of classes and course description, visit our website at www.hartROP.com or have your student see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office.
