DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS!
GENERAL
OPERATION US: If you missed this week's meeting and you would like to go to our last presentation of the year at Leona Cox on April 1st you need to see Ms. Mast by the end of lunch TODAY!
Today is the last day to sign up for the ASVAB test in the counseling office. The ASVAB test gives you math, verbal, science, and technical scores which can help identify academic strengths and weaknesses. The Interest-finder results can assist you in determining possible career choices. Students who complete the test receive a copy of Exploring Careers: The ASVAB Career Exploration Guide, a book that has information about more than 400 different occupations in both the military and civilian areas.
COC is offering SPEED READING courses this summer. Also classes to improve READING SKILLS! What a great opportunity! You can improve on phonics, comprehension, vocab, and more! All programs meet once a week. For more info or to register call 1.800.978.3532.
JUNIORS - are you interested in attending a Leadership Opportunity over the summer? Pepperdine University, which is in Malibu, is having its annual 5-day Youth Citizenship Seminar (YCS) from June 16th-June 20th. Selected juniors will stay on campus, interact with today's leaders, explore current world and national topics and discuss constructive solutions. Canyon can nominate 2 boys and 2 girls to go. $20 dorm-room key deposit is required. Academic ranking is not necessarily a pre-req for this opportunity; students that are active in Leadership, clubs, ASB, athletics, theater, music, or a wide variety of student activities may be interested. If you are interested please see your counselor or Mrs. Trapani in the Counseling Office. Nominations are due by March 17th to Mrs. Trapani in the Counseling Office.
ROP – CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION: Please encourage your sophomore or junior to stop by the ROP office and see the variety of classes available for next year. These classes provide an excellent opportunity to learn about careers while earning high school credits. All classes are taught by industry professionals. These courses can provide students a great opportunity to learn about a career they may be interested in before spending the time and money on college-level courses. Some of our courses have a course articulation agreement with COC. For a current schedule of classes and course description, visit our website at www.hartROP.com or have your student see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office.
MATH HONOR SOCIETY - Lots of news! If you are a senior and you want a Math Honor Society cord for graduation, please stop by G216 for a form. Form and money are due by March 25th.
