OPERATION US: Permission slips are due to Ms. Mast in E3 this Friday January 17th (TODAY) by the end of lunch!
CALLING ALL MEN! Don’t forget to register for Selective Service within 30 days of your 18th birthday. Registering keeps you eligible for financial aid, government jobs and job training. It’s quick. It’s easy. And it’s the law. To register in less than 2 minutes, go to www.sss.gov.
TRACK TRYOUTS are this week after school. Come down to the track after your classes are over (either at 2:00 or 3:00) to try out. Please be dressed in running clothes, and have running shoes. If you have any questions, please see Coach DeLong in room G-205.
CSF - Applications for CSF (California Scholarship Federation) will be available TODAY and TOMORROW--in the library. You can also access the application online through the library website. Look for the CSF link on the left side of the web page.
Grades 9 and 10 only: You may come to the Assistant Principals Office to get your open period stickers during lunch and brunch only.
WINTER FORMAL tickets are on sale. Tickets are $90 per couple FOR EVERYONE. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AFTER JANUARY 17—That is TODAY. Paperwork is available outside ASB.
MEETINGS
ARE YOU INTERESTED in making a difference in young student’s lives and helping the community, join the Helping Hands club! Helping Hands is a club that aids elementary school children with their nightly homework through the Santa Clarita Public Library. If you would like to join please attend a mandatory meeting at lunch TODAY in B3.
CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB and YU-GI-OH Club meet every Wednesday and Friday and G-117. Bring your lunch. Questions ask Mr. Clark
THE ROLEPLAYING CLUB will be meeting in g-107 to play the pathfinder roleplaying system TODAY from 3-7 pm. New players are welcome!
DFYIT (Drug Free Youth in Town) meets on alternate Thursdays. The first DFYIT meeting of the new year will be Thursday, January 23 at lunch in room E4. Please bring your lunch and join us!
HEY COWBOYS! The GSA is starting again and will have the first meeting of the semester on Thursday, January 30 at lunch in Room C-4; it is a pot-luck so please bring some food if you can, if you can’t, still come! This is a very important meeting, and we will be passing out the GSA Workshop Summit forms! If you are interested please come to the meeting! If you still would like to apply please meet with an officer! Also, the next PFLAG meeting will be on January 22 at 7pm at St. Stephens Church! We hope to see you all there!
SENIORS
ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 21st, the Financial Aid Office at College of the Canyons will be conducting a Cash For College workshop for any student who would like information about financial aid. This workshop is open to the community and is FREE to attend. No reservations are required. The workshop will be held in the Performing Arts Center at 6:30PM. If you have FAFSA questions, please plan to attend!
SCHOLARSHIPS:
THE SCV SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION offers approximately 15 scholarships specifically for Canyon High seniors. The biggest scholarship is for $5,000. Please pick up an application in the counseling office. Your completed application is due to Mrs. Goller before February 3rd.
THE SANTA CLARITA EMBLEM CLUB is offering an $800 scholarship to a deserving member of the community. Please pick up an application in the counseling office. The application must be mailed before February 15th.
THE ITALINA CATHOLIC FEDERATION is offering a scholarship to seniors with a GPA of 3.2 that are Roman Catholic and of Italian descent. If you qualify, please go www.icf.org to download an application.
SORPTIMIST CLUB is offering the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award. This is a $1000 scholarship for a young woman aged 14-17. The scholarship is based on community service. If you feel that you contributed to your community, please stop by and pick up an application in the counseling office.
SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT: Attention Senior Ladies. The only official Miss America preliminary for this area will be held March 8 in Canoga Park. The Sixth annual Miss San Fernando Valley Pageant, which includes Santa Clarita Valley, is open to girls 17-24 (at least a senior in high school) and live in either Santa Clarita or San Fernando Valley. There is no entry fee. The Miss America Organization is the largest scholarship foundation for women in the world. Last year over 40 million dollars of scholarships were awarded. The application deadline is February 16. See Mrs. Gaines in the ROP Office to get your application.
