PLEASE NOTE:  NO STUDENT SUMMONS DURING FINAL EXAMS:  STUDENTS please note, there are NO student summons delivered during Final Exams.  Please do NOT call your parents and ask them to excuse you early for any reason.  The Attendance Office WILL NOT deliver student summons during Final Exams to remove you from class.  ALL students need to stay during the entire final exam period out of respect for all the other classes in exams

CLASS SCHEDULE CHANGES:  Due to the high volume of students wanting to change their classes, we have provided the green Program Change Forms for your requests.  These forms are available outside the Counseling Office before school, during both brunches and at lunch TODAY only. Please complete the form and return it to the basket outside the back door of the Counseling Office by 1:00 pm today.  This is the last day to change your classes.

 

CANYON TRACK TEAM:  If you are interested in being a member of the Track team this Spring, please see Mr. De Long in room G-205 BEFORE Winter Break. 

 

HEY COWBOYS! Come support your choir and come to our concert on December 17th and 18th at Golden Valley High School at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now in the A-Lecture Hall for $7 without an ASB card or $5 with an ASB Card or for senior citizens; children 10 and younger get in free. Find a choir student to purchase tickets from or come to the A-Lecture Hall! It’s a night you won’t want to miss!!!

 

WANT A JOB? City of Santa Clarita's YES program has openings. To qualify you need to be between 16-18 years old, in either special education, low-income household or considered at-risk. Go to www.santa-clarita.com/jobs for more information and to apply on line.

 

TEXTBOOK CENTER all textbooks for single semester classes are due by Thursday, December 19th.  These are the books for classes you will not be taking second semester.  Also due by this date are all class novels.  You will not be able to check out your second semester books until these are turned in.  If you have any questions see Mrs. Kulesz in textbook center.

 

HEY COWBOYS! The GSA will be having a fundraiser on the 16th and 17th for our GSA and to support our local PFLAG at the Habit on Golden Valley Road from 4-9 pm. Please come and get fliers in Room C-4, the B-Lecture Hall, and in the Counselors Office.

DO YOU LIKE TO LAUGH?  Then come to the SKETCH SHOW—TODAY at the “Q” Theatre.  Tickets are $5.00 and the show starts at 7:00 p.m.  Don’t be a square, be there!!!

 

“A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY” is having its 2nd annual Holiday Talent Show. Come see fellow classmates showcase their talents while raising money for the Castaic Animal Shelter. The talent show will be put on Friday, December 13th, at 6:30 p.m. in the B-Lecture hall. Presale tickets are being sold in room D-4, for $10, starting December 4th. Tickets will be $15 at the door. Stop by D-4 for more information.

 

ALL PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS and student athletes please stick to the following time line for Locker room clean out:  ALL LOCKS will be removed and contents of lockers will be donated to needy families at the end of the school day on December 19.  PE classes will turn in locks and clean out lockers the week of December 16-19.

 

WINTER FORMAL tickets are on sale. Tickets start at $70 per couple w/ASB cards and $80 per couple w/o ASB.  Prices go up Monday, December 16.  Paperwork is available outside ASB.

SENIORS

SCHOLARSHIPS:

 

THE SCV SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION offers approximately 15 scholarships specifically for Canyon High seniors.  The biggest scholarship is for $5,000.    Please pick up an application in the counseling office.  Your completed application is due to Mrs. Goller before February 3rd.

 

THE SANTA CLARITA EMBLEM CLUB is offering an $800 scholarship to a deserving member of the community.   Please pick up an application in the counseling office.  The application must be mailed before February 15th.

 

THE ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION is offering a scholarship to seniors with a GPA of 3.2 that are Roman Catholic and of Italian descent.  If you qualify, please go www.icf.org to download an application.

 

SOROPTIMIST CLUB is offering the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award.  This is a $1000 scholarship for a young woman aged 14-17.  The scholarship is based on community service.  If you feel that you contributed to your community, please stop by and pick up an application in the counseling office.

 

ASIAN PACIFIC FUND SCHOLARSHIP is offering up to $1000 each for 10 California residents of Asian descent. All scholarships are supported by individual donors and have eligibility criteria set by the donors.  For information about all the Asian Pacific Fund scholarships, please visit http://www.apcf.org/what-we-do/110  . The application deadline is January 31, 2014.

 

ATTENTION SENIORS: In order to give colleges a transcript showing first semester grades, senior transcripts will be mailed on December 27, 2013. 

 

DIPLOMA NAME LIST:  All seniors need to check the diploma name list posted in the display case outside the Counseling Office to make sure that their name is spelled correctly and that it is their legal name.  If you find an error, please see Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office as soon as possible so that a correction can be made.  Otherwise, your name will appear on your diploma as it is written on this list.  All changes and corrections need to be made by 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013.  Copies of birth certificates are required for all changes!

 

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION:  Seniors, please give teachers and counselors PLENTY of time to complete college letters of recommendation for you. Staff should be given at least two weeks’ notice, as they will not be able to work on these over Winter break. Please provide the stamped, addressed envelope (if needed) as well as a ‘brag sheet’ listing your activities, award, honors, etc. You can pick up a copy of Request for Letter of Recommendation form in the Counseling Office.
