CANYON HIGH SCHOOL

GENERAL

STUDENTS: Please have your ASB card with you if you plan on going to the Hart festivities on Friday. If you need a new ID, you can purchase one for $10 in the ASB before school, brunch, or lunch. The game is $8 for students without an ASB card.

HART RALLY—FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, AT 7 p.m. In the Main Gym.  The Aux gym will open at 6 p.m. and the door from the Aux gym into the Main Gym opens at 6:50 to go into the Rally.  Come on out and show your Cowboy spirit!!!!

CROSS COUNTRY MEET TODAY @ 3:00 AT CENTRAL PARK!  Varsity girls are tied with Saugus for the league title.  Come show your Canyon Spirit and support Cross Country. 

FREE PRACTICE TEST FOR PSAT, ACT OR SAT:  On Monday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day), the C2 Education Center in the Target Shopping Center (Valencia) will be offering a PSAT, ACT or SAT practice test from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. This test is FREE of charge.  Seating is limited to 15, so if you are interested, email the office outreach director, Jacob Kantor, to reserve your spot.   Just email him with your name and which test you would like to take at [email protected].  The deadline to sign up is this Saturday, Nov. 9.  Please pick up a flyer in the counseling office for more information.

OPERATION US: We are presenting at Mitchell Elementary to a large group on Thursday November 21st from 7:25 AM to 11 AM. We would like as many Canyon students to attend as possible! Please stop by E3 during 1st brunch or lunch to pick up a permission slip! Permission slips will be due on Friday November 8th.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN COLLEGE PLANNING CONFERENCE @ Golden Valley High School on Robert E. Lee Parkway, Saturday, November 16th, Workshops from 8:30 to 12 and a Mini-College Fair from 12-1pm.  This is a wonderful event for juniors, seniors, and their parents.  Food and raffles and workshops including:  Finding the Right College, Writing Your Personal Statement, Applying to College, Getting Financial Aid/Scholarships, and Parents’ Workshops.  Learn about Howard, Spelman, Hampton, CSUN and more! TRY OUTS for the CANYON SWIM TEAM will be held today at the SCV Aquatics center starting at 2:30 each day.  Students if you have a 7^th period class go to tryouts after school.

POMS FOR PROMS FUNDRAISER - Would you like an opportunity to donate to a great cause?  SCV Cheer squads are inviting you to gather gently used short and long formal dresses and gowns, evening wear shoes and handbags, men’s suits, ties and shoes.   Please give them to Mrs. Nelson in the AP Office by November 12th.  Your donated items will be available at a nominal cost to students in need at the Assistant League in Newhall.  The Santa Clarita Valley Community appreciates all you do to make a difference!

MEETINGS

The BOOK CLUB meets this Friday in the library at lunch. New members are always welcome.

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY:  ¡Atención! ¡Atención! ¡Atención Spanish Honor Society members!  There's a mandatory meeting TODAY at lunch in D6.  Please don't be late and bring your yellow papers!  Remember it's today at lunch!  ¡Hasta muy pronto!

NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS:  There is a mandatory meeting today at lunch in room C-1.

BIBLE CLUB--Every Thursday at lunch, the Bible Club will meet in the A Lecture Hall.  We'll have food and great discussions about the Bible and life.  Come and meet some great people and be part of this exciting club!

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB and YU-GI-OH Club meet every Wednesday and Friday and G-117.  Bring your lunch. Questions ask Mr. Clark

DFYIT meeting at lunch TODAY - grab your lunch and join us in room E-4

FCA meeting Friday at lunch in room G-206.  Come check it out.  We will have food and an inspirational speaker.

SENIORS

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION:  Seniors, please give teachers and counselors PLENTY of time to complete college letters of recommendation for you. Staff should be given at least two weeks’ notice, as they will not be able to work on these over Thanksgiving/Winter breaks. Please provide the stamped, addressed envelope (if needed) as well as a ‘brag sheet’ listing your activities, award, honors, etc. You can pick up a copy of Request for Letter of Recommendation form in the Counseling Office.

SENIORS:  Asian Pacific Fund Scholarship is offering up to $1000 each for 10 California residents of Asian descent. All scholarships are supported by individual donors and have eligibility criteria set by the donors.  For information about all the Asian Pacific Fund scholarships, please visit http://www.apcf.org/what-we-do/110. The application deadline is January 31, 2014.
