CANYON HIGH SCHOOL

GENERAL

 

HART RALLY—FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, AT 7 p.m. In the Main Gym.  The Aux gym will open at 6 p.m. and the door from the Aux gym into the Main Gym opens at 6:50 to go into the Rally.  Come on out and show your Cowboy spirit!!!!

 

CROSS COUNTRY MEET THURSDAY @ 3:00 AT CENTRAL PARK!  Varsity girls are tied with Saugus for the league title.  Come show your Canyon Spirit and support Cross Country. 

 

TRY OUTS for the CANYON SWIM TEAM will be held Monday-Thursday this week at the SCV Aquatics center starting at 2:30 each day.  Students if you have a 7th period class go to tryouts after school.

 

HEALTH OFFICE:  When you are ill, you must get a pass from your teacher to come up to the Health Office.  It is there that contact will be made with your parents/guardians to arrange for you to go home.  Do not call or text your parents or guardians from the classroom expecting to be summoned to the Health Office. 

 

OPERATION US: We are presenting at Mitchell Elementary to a large group on Thursday November 21st from 7:25 AM to 11 AM. We would like as many Canyon students to attend as possible! Please stop by E3 during 1st brunch or lunch to pick up a permission slip! Permission slips will be due on Friday November 8th.

AFJROTC FUNDRAISER:  Come support the AFJROTC, they will be having a fundraiser at Mountasia on November 15.  Prices and details are on the fliers posted around the school.  You may purchase tickets at the booth located near the front gate during both brunches and lunch.

 

If you are a CHRISTIAN VARSITY ATHLETE in 10th, 11th or 12th grade with a 2.0 grade point average or higher, you may apply for a scholarship called Playing with Purpose. This scholarship program will award $14,000 worth of scholarships this school year! Application deadline is February 1, 2014. Go to: www.playingwithpurpose.org to apply.

 

AFRICAN-AMERICAN COLLEGE PLANNING CONFERENCE @ Golden Valley High School on Robert E. Lee Parkway, Saturday, November 16th, Workshops from 8:30 to 12 and a Mini-College Fair from 12-1pm.  This is a wonderful event for juniors, seniors, and their parents.  Food and raffles and workshops including:  Finding the Right College, Writing Your Personal Statement, Applying to College, Getting Financial Aid/Scholarships, and Parents’ Workshops.  Learn about Howard, Spelman, Hampton, CSUN and more! POMS FOR PROMS FUNDRAISER - Would you like an opportunity to donate to a great cause?  SCV Cheer squads are inviting you to gather gently used short and long formal dresses and gowns, evening wear shoes and handbags, men’s suits, ties and shoes.   Please give them to Mrs. Nelson in the AP Office by November 12th.  Your donated items will be available at a nominal cost to students in need at the Assistant League in Newhall.  The Santa Clarita Valley Community appreciates all you do to make a difference!

 

MEETINGS

 

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY:  ¡Atención! ¡Atención! ¡Atención Spanish Honor Society members!  There's a mandatory meeting this Thursday at lunch in D6.  Please don't be late! Don't forget your yellow papers! Remember tomorrow at lunch!  ¡Hasta pronto!

 

BIBLE CLUB--Every Thursday at lunch, the Bible Club will meet in the A Lecture Hall.  We'll have food and great discussions about the Bible and life.  Come and meet some great people and be part of this exciting club!

 

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB and YU-GI-OH Club meet every Wednesday and Friday and G-117.  Bring your lunch. Questions ask Mr. Clark

 

SPEECH AND DEBATE team will be meeting every Wednesday at lunch in room E-5.

 

DFYIT meeting at lunch Thursday - grab your lunch and join us in room E-4

 

FCA meeting Friday at lunch in room G-206.  Come check it out.  We will have food and an inspirational speaker.

SENIORS

 

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION:  Seniors, please give teachers and counselors PLENTY of time to complete college letters of recommendation for you. Staff should be given at least two weeks’ notice, as they will not be able to work on these over Thanksgiving/Winter breaks. Please provide the stamped, addressed envelope (if needed) as well as a ‘brag sheet’ listing your activities, award, honors, etc. You can pick up a copy of Request for Letter of Recommendation form in the Counseling Office.
