GENERAL

 

ATTENTION COWBOYS:....Please be aware that any Halloween costumes that will be worn at school cannot violate dress code policy.  Shorts and skirts cannot be excessively short and shirts cannot show your midriff.  In addition, costumes cannot be excessively gory or bloody.  Lastly, you cannot wear any masks at school. 

 

POMS FOR PROMS FUNDRAISER -  Would you like an opportunity to donate to a great cause?  SCV Cheer squads are inviting you to gather gently used short and long formal dresses and gowns, evening wear shoes and handbags, men’s suits, ties and shoes.   Please give them to Mrs. Nelson in the AP Office by November 12th.  Your donated items will be available at a nominal cost to students in need at the Assistant League in Newhall.  The Santa Clarita Valley Community appreciates all you do to make a difference!

 

AFJROTC fundraiser:  Come support the AFJROTC, they will be having a fundraiser at Mountasia on November 15.  Prices and details are on the fliers posted around the school.  You may purchase tickets at the booth located near the front gate during both brunches and lunch. 

 

ATTENTION JUNIORS:  Would you like to be a licensed cosmetologist and save thousands of dollars?  Applications are now available for the ROP Cosmetology Program at Newberry School of Beauty.  Please see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office for program information.  The application deadline is November 1st.

 

CAREER CLASSES THROUGH ROP:  ROP classes are Career Technical Education classes that provide you with skills that prepare you for higher education, future careers and life long learning.  Whether you are looking to prepare for a job or planning on pursuing higher education, ROP may have something for you.  Stop by the ROP office for more information and to sign up for spring courses.

 

There is a TOUR OF HENRY MAYO scheduled for Wednesday, October 30 from 3:30-5:00 for students interested in the medical/health sciences field.  See Mrs. King in room G-105 or Mr. d’Autremont in the main office for more information and permission slips.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MEETINGS

 

THERE IS A NEW CHRISTIAN GROUP ON CAMPUS.  Come check it out on Wednesday, October 23 in room G-217 at lunch to find out more about it.

 

“UNLESS” is another new club on campus.  They are meeting in room G-219 on Wednesday, October 23 at lunch.   There will be pizza.

 

SPEECH AND DEBATE team will be meeting every Wednesday at lunch in room E-5.

 

The BOOK CLUB will meet this Friday in the library @ lunch. New members are always welcome. This week, we'll be discussing Divergent by Veronica Roth. Stop by the library if you want to get a copy of the book and join in the discussion!

 

ALL NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS:  There is a MANDATORY meeting Tuesday at lunch in C-1.  See you there!

 

SENIORS

 

SENIORS:  Are you still trying to decide which college is the right one for you?  The University of Albany ranks #1 in the world in nanotechnology and engineering.  It has been ranked one of the "Top 100 America's Best Public Colleges" by Forbes Magazine.  It has also been rated a top college for excellence in academics and affordability.  This school is known for being very strong in music, art, and theatre.  If you think you might like to hear more, there will be a representative for the University of Albany in H1 on Wednesday during 5th period and the first 10 minutes of lunch.  If you would like to attend please come fifth period, sign in, and your absence will be cleared in attendance.

 

ATTENTION SENIOR BOYS:  If you would like to be a part of this year’s MR. CANYON pageant, pick up an application outside of the ASB window.  Applications and $20 fee are due by Monday, October 28th.

 

COC Rep on Campus:  A representative from the College of the Canyons’ Outreach and School Relations Office will be at Canyon High School to meet with students who would like to learn more about the colleges:

¨ NEW mandatory admission requirements for Fall 2014

¨ Academic opportunities including certificates, degrees and transfer programs

¨ Student support services & programs

¨ And much more

Stop by the Counseling Office to make an appointment. Students are also welcome to drop-in during brunch and lunch.  The representative will only be on our campus on these dates:  Oct. 21, Nov. 18, and Dec., 16, Jan. 27, Feb. 10, Mar. 17, Apr. 21 and May 19.

 

If you are applying to Mount St. Mary's College in LA they have Walk-On Application Days November 11th-15th.  That means that if a student brings a copy of their transcript, the essay, their test scores, and a Letter of Recommendation, the student will be able to have a tour of the campus, meet with an Admissions Counselor, and be accepted to the college the same day!  See specific info on their website.  They also have "Afternoon at the Mount" at Chalon on November 3rd, and at Doheny on November 10th.  At these opportunities students may have tours, meet staff/students, learn how to apply and about scholarship opportunities, sit in on some classes.
