GENERAL

 

TUTORING TUESDAY IS BACK!!!  Do you need support in some of your classes?  Come to the Library on Tuesdays from 3-4 pm.  Teachers will available to help you with any subject you need support with.

 

COWBOYS, are you wondering what to do on those late start Wednesdays from 8 to 8:45?  Have you read the study that says if you sleep in on late start Wednesdays you are guaranteed to take a bad driving license photo?  The Canyon Counseling Department wants to save you from that horror!  We have planned workshops, called the Student Academy, from 8 to 8:45 on late start Wednesdays to keep you informed and happy! The topics will include such fun topics as dating, study skills, and college.  There are two topics to choose from for the Student Academy this Wednesday.  The first will be in the Q Theater and will cover general college information for juniors and seniors.

**The other session will take place in the library.  It is our first workshop in a three-part study skills series to help you be super smart and pass all your classes!  Stop by the counseling office if you have questions!

 

PSAT STUDY GUIDES AVAILABLE:  If you paid for the test and have not picked up your PSAT Study Guide, please come to the Counseling Office during brunch or lunch to pick one up.  The test will be given on Saturday, October 19 at 7:45 am.

 

STUDENTS, ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A FUTURE CAREER AS A FIREFIGHTER? Come learn about this career field by attending an after school fieldtrip to a fire station in Newhall. Students will tour the fire station and talk to the firemen. The fieldtrip is TODAY from 3:30 - 5:00. Students provide their own transportation. Pick up a flyer and fieldtrip form from Mr. d’Autremont in the office.

 Then the ROP Cosmetology Program might be for you!

 There will be a short information meeting regarding the ROP Cosmetology Program on Friday, October 4th at lunch (12:30) in the ROP office.

 All students, regardless of grade, are encouraged to attend.  Please bring your lunch and be ready to learn what it takes to enroll in this very exciting program.

 

 

LOOKING TO EARN SOME VOLUNTEER HOURS?  The Soroptimist' Sip Wine and Stroll event will be at the mall (on Town Center Drive) on Oct. 20.  Proceeds benefit the Shelia R. Veloz Breast Imaging center and the Neo-Natal Unit at Henry Mayo.  Students can volunteer to help with this event to earn volunteer hours between 1 and 5pm on October 20th.  Students would be used as to run errands between the venues and would not be handling wine or money.  If interested contact Suzanne @ 222.9976

 

ATENCION! Are you interested in showing your pride on Mexican cultural dance, or simply your passion or desire to dance and represent. This is the time! Come and join us in our meeting on Monday or Wednesday after school in room D-5. You have two options - Do not miss out! Hope to see you there.

 

CHOIR CABARET CONCERT--Attention cowboys and cowgirls, Canyon Choirs Annual Cabaret Concert will be held TONIGHT and October 2nd at 7:30 p.m. This year’s Cabaret theme will be an Old West Review. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 with an asb card and $7 without. You can buy tickets from Mrs. Purdy all this week in the A-Lecture hall. Come to Golden Valley to see your favorite choir kids do what they do best.

MEETINGS

 

NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY:  Attention all NEHS applicants—the list of members/officers has been posted.  Stop by C-1 to see if you are a member.  Thursday, October 3 is our first meeting in C-1 at lunch.

 

HEY COWBOYS!!  Come to the next GSA meeting on October 3 in room C-4 at lunch.  Check out the bulletin board outside the Student Resource Center for topic details.  We will be having a Pot Luck meeting so bring some food if you can!  Anyone is welcome to stop by, bring your friends and check out what the club is all about!

 

OPERATION US: We have two presentations coming up! We will be meeting Wednesday Oct. 2 at lunch in E3 to prepare and pass out permission slips.  See you there!

 

STUDENT TASK FORCE is a human right’s club that is working to improve the rights of others in our world.  We will be meeting TODAY at lunch in G-201.

 

BIBLE CLUB: Is every Thursday at lunch, the Bible Club will meet in the A Lecture Hall.  We'll have food and great discussions about the Bible and life.  Come and meet some great people and be part of this exciting club!

 

ROLEPLAYING CLUB will be on Thursday Oct 3 from 3 to 7 pm in G106.  This is a change from the normal schedule.   Please let other club members know if see them.

ATTENTION SENIORS!  All seniors in the Hart District are encouraged to participate in a speech scholarship competition sponsored by the Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association. The topic for the competition is: "How should the United States Immigration Policies be Reformed and Implemented?"

All interested students must submit a written copy of their speech by the October 4th deadline to Canyon's Counseling Office. (There is a max. time limit for the speech of 5 minutes.) Prizes are $750, $500 & $250. Please see the flyers in the Counseling Office for more information.
