GENERAL
SCHOOL SITE CONCIL: Students, would you like to get involved? Do you want to help make Canyon the best school possible? Consider running for School Site Council. The Council is responsible for analyzing and evaluating the academic achievement of all students in the school, developing and approving the school plan, and monitoring implementation of the plan. The School Site Council will meet two evenings this year: October 14th and May 5th. Elections will be held next week. Let Dr. Keyne know by this Thursday, Aug 29, if you would like to run for Site Council. Thank you for your interest in serving our school!
STUDENTS, please be sure to remove your bikes from the bike racks no later than 3:30. The racks will be moved one day after school this week (date still to be determined). If your bike is still there at 3:30, your lock may be cut. The new location of the bike racks will be on the south end of the parking lot, just under the press box in the home side bleachers. Thank you!
DRESS CODE: Have you violated the dress code policy and had to wear a Canyon t-shirt? If so, you need to return the Canyon t-shirt washed and dried to the Student Responsibility Center to pick up your original shirt. Any article of clothing not picked up within 3 weeks will be thrown away. Please return the washed Canyon t-shirt and pick up your original shirt ASAP.
All NHS members must check in with Ms. King in room G-105 on Thursday or Friday of this week.
PSAT PRACTICE TEST BOOKLETS: If you signed up for the test and have not picked up your PSAT practice test booklet, please come to the Counseling Office during brunch or lunch to pick one up. The test will be given on Saturday, October 19 at 8:00am.
OPEN PERIOD STICKERS: If you need an Open Period Sticker on the back of your ID card for this semester, please bring BOTH your ID card AND your printed schedule to the AP office before school, at brunch, or lunch all this week. 9th and 10th graders must bring their (green) athletic/ROTC release forms to receive a sticker. We will process as many as we can each day. Please be patient and carry your printed schedule with you until your stickers are assigned correctly. DO NOT COME DURING CLASS TIME.
TEXTBOOK CENTER: Textbook Damage Forms are due by Friday, Sept 6th. Drop them in the blue crates in the library or textbook center. If you have lost yours from registration see Mrs. Kulesz to get another. Don’t get stuck paying for someone else’s damage, return your form.
HEY COWBOYS, The Science National Honor Society will be accepting applications from now until Friday, September 6th. Our first meeting is Tuesday September 10th at lunch in G-105. See Ms. King for details.
SOFTBALL TRYOUTS: Softball Tryouts will be held on Thursday Sept. 5th and Friday Sept. 6th at 3:15 pm on the Varsity Softball Field.
GOLDEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL is having their 2nd Annual Hispanic College and Career Fair. When: TODAY. Where: Golden Valley High School Theater Time: 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
CSF - Applications for CSF (California Scholarship Federation) will be available until now through Friday, Aug. 30 in the library. You can also access the application online through the library website. Look for the CSF link on the left side of the web page.
CSF – Bring your complete application for CSF to the library this week during lunch only. CSF applicants are expected to strictly adhere to all deadlines.

THE 3rd ANNYAL COLLEGE & CAREER FAIR is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 6-8:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. Over 100 Colleges & Universities, Career Preparation Schools and Apprenticeship programs will be on hand to answer questions about admission requirements and financial aid. This year, workshops will not be offered. All students are welcome, but the event is most appropriate for juniors and seniors with early entrance from 6-7 pm reserved for them. Log-on to hartdistrictcareercenter.com for a list of confirmed schools and programs or for more information, visit your counseling office. A separate Hispanic College Fair is being held at Golden Valley High School on August 29, 2013 from 4:30-7:30 in their theater.
SENIORS
ATTENTION CLASS OF 2014: If you would like to have your senior portrait in the yearbook then you need to schedule an appointment ASAP. The final deadline for senior portraits is in October and O'Connor Photography is getting booked up quickly. Call today and get your appt before it’s too late.
MEETINGS
Political Debate club meets Friday in E1 at Lunch. 1st meeting of the year.
ART CLUB will hold its first meeting TODAY at Lunch in room T4, new members welcome.
NEW AND OLD KEY CLUBBERS, we are having a meeting in S-4 at lunch TODAY. If you signed up at registration, or are interested in joining, come to the meeting August 29. Hours for old members from last semester are due TODAY.
BIBLE CLUB:-Every Thursday at lunch, the Bible Club will meet in the A Lecture Hall. We'll have food and great discussions about the Bible and life. Come and meet some great people and be part of this exciting club!
HEY COWBOYS! Got nothing to do at lunch today? Well look no further! Come to C-4 Today at lunch for GSA’s first meeting of the year! There will be food and people! Bring your friends or even make new ones! Hope to see you there
OPERATION US is ready to get started again. Operation US is program that trains high school students to teach 6th graders the importance of respect and tolerance towards others and how to deal with bullying when they see it happening. Our first meeting will be TODAY in room E-3. Everyone is invited to join this program that has been a part of Canyon High School for 18 years. We hope to see you at our first meeting to learn more about Operation US.
BRAINSTORMERS: Do you enjoy trivia games? If so, Canyon's Brainstormers is the club for you. Brainstormers is a team of students from all grades who compete in contests of general knowledge against teams from other schools. It's exactly like Jeopardy meets The Hunger Games. If you would like to be a part of Canyon's Brainstormers, come to our first meeting at lunch in A5 TODAY.
All students who were members of DFYIT last year, whether at Canyon or Sierra Vista, please come to a quick DFYIT meeting on Thursday, September 5 in E4 at lunch.
