GENERAL
Dress Code Alert:
The following are dress code violations that have been observed on campus:
(1) Clothing with undergarments showing
(2) Strapless tops
(3) Shirts that do not completely cover the torso - (Belly showing)
(4) Clothing with references to drugs or alcohol
(5) Clothing with depictions of weapons
(6) Excessively short shorts
Remember that students with clothing that violates the Dress Code will be required to change into alternate loaner items.
PONY EXPRESS: The semester's first edition of the Pony Express will be delivered at the beginning of 2nd period today. If you do not receive a newspaper, you may pick one up in room B7.
CSF - Applications for CSF (California Scholarship Federation) will be available until now through Friday, Aug. 30 in the library. You can also access the application online through the library website. Look for the CSF link on the left side of the web page.
CSF – Bring your complete application for CSF to the library this week during lunch only. CSF applicants are expected to strictly adhere to all deadlines.

ARE YOU TAKING THE SAT SOON? Are you interested in a SAT review? If so, Canyon High is offering a SAT review for only $90! These type of classes usually cost a few hundred dollars. Tier One, one of the largest SAT prep companies in Southern California, has once again offered to hold prep classes for college bound Canyon Cowboys. Please visit the counseling office for more information.
THE 3rd ANNYAL COLLEGE & CAREER FAIR is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 6-8:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. Over 100 Colleges & Universities, Career Preparation Schools and Apprenticeship programs will be on hand to answer questions about admission requirements and financial aid. This year, workshops will not be offered. All students are welcome, but the event is most appropriate for juniors and seniors with early entrance from 6-7 pm reserved for them. A separate Hispanic College Fair is being held at Golden Valley High School on August 29, 2013 from 4:30-7:30 in their theater.
ATTENTION STUDENTS: Are you interested in Bass Fishing? Would you like to represent your school in the first ever Foothill League Bass fishing tournament trail? CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (CHSPE): The California High School Proficiency Examination will be administered on October 19, 2013. The registration deadline is September 20, 2013, and the cost is $110.00. This exam is for students interested in an alternative to graduating from high school so they could move ahead to higher education or prepare for a career. You can earn the legal equivalent of a high school diploma by proving your proficiency in basic skills though the CHSPE exam. You must be 16-years old, or if 15, just completed your 10th grade year. Apply online at www.chspe.net or see Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office for an application booklet.

PSAT- Date Change to Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 7:45 am in the Main and Aux Gyms. - Attention all Juniors and Sophomores who signed up for the PSAT. In the interest of allowing the maximum amount of classroom instructional time for each student, Canyon High School is proud to announce that we will be hosting the PSAT on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 7:45 am sharp (NO LATE ADMITTANCE) until noon in the Main and Aux Gyms. ALL Students who have signed up for the Wednesday, October 16 test at Canyon will be moved automatically to the Saturday testing date.
TEXTBOOK CENTER: Textbook Damage Forms are due by Friday, Sept 6th. Drop them in the blue crates in the library or textbook center. If you have lost yours from registration see Mrs. Kulesz to get another. Don’t get stuck paying for someone else’s damage, return your form.

SENIORS
HEY SENIORS! It’s that time again---Homecoming is just around the corner AND our first meeting is today at lunch in room B-8. This is just a quick general meeting.
MEETINGS
TRI M, the Music Honor Society, will hold an informational meeting on Monday at lunch in S3. Come and find out what you have to do to join this fabulous group. It is open to juniors and seniors who are members of choir, band, and guitar.
NEW AND OLD KEY CLUBBERS, we are having a meeting in S-4 at lunch on Thursday, August 29. If you signed up at registration, or are interested in joining, come to the meeting August 29. Hours for old members from last semester are due on August 29.
OPERATION US is ready to get started again. Operation US is program that trains high school students to teach 6th graders the importance of respect and tolerance towards others and how to deal with bullying when they see it happening. Our first meeting will be Thursday August, 29 in room E-3. Everyone is invited to join this program that has been a part of Canyon High School for 18 years. We hope to see you at our first meeting to learn more about Operation US.
HEY COWBOYS! GSA is holding its first meeting of the year this Thursday in room C-4. Come and bring your friends or meet new people. There will be food and fun! Hope to see you there!
CHECKMATES CHESS and Yu_Gi-Oh Club will meet Wednesday in G-117 to kick off the year. Bring your lunch. We will meet every Wednesday and Friday. Questions. See Mr. Clark in G-117
BRAINSTORMERS: Do you enjoy trivia games? If so, Canyon's Brainstormers is the club for you. Brainstormers is a team of students from all grades who compete in contests of general knowledge against teams from other schools. It's exactly like Jeopardy meets The Hunger Games. If you would like to be a part of Canyon's Brainstormers, come to our first meeting at lunch in A5 on
Thursday, August 29.
CREATIVE WRITING: Canyon's Student Writing Group has won numerous awards over the past four years. If you are interested in creative writing and would like to join the group, come to a meeting at lunch in A5 with Mr. Smith on Tuesday, August 27. See you there!
