BLOOD DRIVE:  There will be a blood drive next Thursday, April 25th in the gym.  If you are 16 or older, you can help save a life.  Please pick up permission slips in room E-5.  The first 40 people to sign up will receive an extra movie ticket.

 

ATTENTION All Dance Team Members!  There is a MANDATORY meeting today at lunch in G216.  The last pictures are being taken at that time.  We need a group team picture so don't let us down!  Remember lunch today in G216!

JUNIORS AND SENIORS who didn't attend the Monday Lunch Meeting for the Nissan Car Giveaway must attend a meeting at either brunch TODAY in the Main Gym to get the information necessary to be eligible to win a new car!

If you are a senior who is not going directly to a 4-year college, you might be interested in learning how to become a plumber or carpenter, learn more about the Columbia Film School, (which is in Tarzana), or about our own Charter College (they have programs in: Computerized Accounting Specialist, Computerized Office Specialist, Dental Assisting, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant, Medical Office Administrative Assistant, Vocational Nursing, or Legal Assistant.

If you are in 9th, 10th, or 11th grades come and learn about the, DeVry, the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University (New York), Hawai'i Pacific University, Indiana University- Purdue, Oregon State, Samford (Alabama), University of Colorado, and University of Mass Lowell (Massachusetts).  So please come to the "grassy steps" at 5th period or lunch to learn more!

 

TODAY is  GLSEN's National Day of Silence-. Thousands of students around the country will remain silent for all or part of the school day to call attention to the harassment and discrimination faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. (GLSEN) or The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. If you would like to participate in The Day of Silence, please stop by the Counseling Office for a flyer to present to your teachers explaining the reason for your silence in class.

 

IMPORTANT REMINDER:  Are you arriving to your classes late?  If so, your attendance record could make you ineligible to take a 1st period class in the future.  Please ensure you’re arriving to all your classes on time every day.

"A Little Goes a Long Way" is putting on a fundraiser at the Habit Burger Grill on Wednesday, April 24 from 4-10 pm. Come eat delicious food and support the Castaic Animal Shelter. Just mention that you are there for the fundraiser or pick up a flyer in room D-4.

 

SPRING ACADEMIC CEREMONY:  Did you earn a 3.5 GPA last fall?  If so, you should’ve received an invitation to the Spring Academic Banquet Ceremony.  This year, the ceremony will be Wednesday April 24 at 6 pm.  During the ceremony, the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society will also be presenting awards.  In addition, this is also the time when Golden Spur Awards will be given to students who were nominated by their teachers.  If you’ve received an invitation, please don’t forget to RSVP.  Also, if you are planning to purchase dinner that night, please don’t forget to get your money into the ASB office ASAP.  The deadline is Friday, April 19.

AP Econ Review sessions will be held EVERY Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at lunch in room A-5. These reviews will be ongoing beginning Monday, April 8 until the date of the AP Exam.

 

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK FUN LIBRARY FACT: Benjamin Franklin formed the first public lending library in America, and hired the first American librarian, Louis Timothee.

Now for your trivia: According to our circulation statistics, this is the most popular book in the Canyon High School library. Can you name it? If you think you know the answer, stop by the library and fill out the trivia entry form to win a copy of Mr. Smith's not-yet-released newest book Winger. Our drawing will be held TODAY @ lunch!

 

ATTENTION ALL ARTISTS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS:  YES I CAN is looking for submissions for the 10th Annual Summer Meltdown Art and Music Festival on Saturday, May 4th at the Santa Clarita Skate Park and Field.  If you're interested in showcasing your art, please come to C-3 to speak to Ms. L, ask your art or photo teacher, or speak to Katie Hermasura, Enrique Gallegos, Austin Leinbach, or David Ponce.

 

CHOIR AUDITIONS---Would you like to be part of Canyon's fabulous choirs?  If so, you will need to sign up for an audition.  Come to the choir room to sign up.  Auditions will be Friday, April 19th beginning at 3:45 p.m.  You don't want to miss the opportunity to be part of these great groups!

 

HEY COWBOYS!  National English Honor Society is hosting a book drive April 15 –April 26.  All donations will be sent to help out newly opened libraries.  Your donations could also earn you community service hours.  For every five books donated, you may earn on community service hour up to a maximum of five hours.  Help support Cowboys, and drop your donations in the library.

 

NEWS FROM SANTA CLARITA PUBLIC LIBRARY--Kaplan will be presenting an ACT/SAT practice test session at Valencia Library Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m.- 2p.m. This program is FREE! FREE! FREE! for High School Students. Personal Follow up will allow those tested and their parents/caregivers to learn how they did and provide testing advice. Please Register online on the Santa Clarita Public Library’s Website www.santaclaritalibrary.com  Look for the program on the events calendar.

 

MEETINGS

 

THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY is having a meeting Friday during lunch in C-4.  All members need to attend.

 

CHESS CLUB is canceled for Friday.  Will resume next week Wednesday and Friday.

SENIORS

 

SENIORS: If you have lost or damaged a textbook go see Mrs. Kulesz in the Textbook Center today.  She may be able to save you some big bucks.  Don't wait till graduation.

WERE YOU ACCEPTED TO ATTEND UCLA NEXT YEAR? The Santa Clarita Bruins are offering a $500 dollar scholarship.  Please pick up your application in the counseling office.  Applications must be post marked by May 4th.

 

THE SEIJI ISOMOTO SCHOLARSHIP FUND is offering a $1000 scholarship.  To apply you must have a 3.0 GPA, have at least one parent that is Asian, and have lettered in a high school varsity sport.  Applications are available in the counseling office.

 

THE CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION has $500 scholarships available for CSF seal bearers. Please stop by the library to pick up the scholarship application instructions. The submission deadline for all applicants is May 17th.
