GENERAL
ATTENTION ALL 10th GRADERS AND ANY JUINOR OR SENIOR who hasn’t passed one or both sections of the CAHSEE! CAHSEE testing will be Tuesday March 12 and Wednesday March 13. We will have a special bell schedule those days. Please visit the CHS website to see the bell schedule. Students taking the CAHSEE will receive an invitation letting them know where to go to take the test. If you are absent on Friday, your teacher will give you the invitation before the test dates. Students taking the test are encouraged to arrive to school at 7:45 am to give them plenty of time to find their testing location. Test takers should also have a healthy breakfast to fuel their mind and body.
ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS: PROM SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION: Current 11th and 12th grade Canyon Students may apply. Pick up an application from Mrs. Ruppert in the Main Office, and return the application by March 20. The winners will receive a prom bid for two persons to attend Canyon’s Prom, A Tale as Old as Time, on April 20th.. (Prize valued at $200).
ASVAB TESTING: Canyon will be hosting the ASVAB test on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. The test will be given in the B-Lecture Hall starting at 8:00 am. Taking the ASVAB while in high school is the only time students can take the ASVAB as a skills and vocational assessment test. The test is available for sophomores, juniors and seniors. If you are looking to find your academic strengths, possible future career options or are interested in exploring the military, this is a great time to take advantage of this FREE opportunity on our campus. Please sign-up in the counseling office ASAP to reserve your spot, as spaces are limited. The LAST day to sign up will be Friday, March 22, 2013.

SUMMER SCHOOL APPLICATIONS: Summer school applications are online and available on our school website under the News and Announcements column. Please print out the forms and complete ALL sections. Please notice that your parent’s signature is needed in three different places and student’s signature in two places. After completing all forms, return forms to the front office where there is a special basket for them to be placed in.
CALLING ALL STUDENTS! There is a CSF drive for the Family Promise Homeless Shelter organization. Please help out by bringing in any laundry/cleaning supplies and toiletry supplies to the library. March 15th is the last date to bring in items. Thank you!
YES, Youth Employment Services, Want to work this summer? The City of Santa Clarita offers high school youths ages 14-18 a chance to get a part time summer job through the city. In order to qualify you need to be in Special Education or Living in a Low-Income household or considered At Risk. Check it all out and apply at www.santa-clarita.com/jobs or get a flyer in G-126 or G-130. There's only 80 jobs for all of Santa Clarita so hurry and apply the first day, which is March 11th.
DO YOU ENJOY designing, writing, math, physics, construction, and art? If the answer is yes, you might want to learn more about careers in the Engineering and Design Industry! Join us in the library at lunch on March 28th to hear about some opportunities available through COC to prepare for a career in Engineering and Design. Stop by the library to check out the architectural models on display. Program attendees may have the opportunity to earn extra credit for attending. (The library tables will be closed at lunch on the 28th for the presentation; be sure to make other study plans that day.)

SENIORS
SENIORS: The SCV Association of California School Administrators is offering multiple scholarships ranging from 200 to 500 dollars. To qualify you need to have gone to a school in Santa Clarita for at least seven years (including at least one year of elementary school), have applied to a trade school, community college, or four year college, and have at least a 2.5 GPA. If you qualify, please pick up an application in the counseling office. Applications are due back to Mrs. Goller by March 12th.
