TEEN READ WEEK is Oct 15th-19th. The theme this year is It Came From the Library: Dare to Read for the Fun of It! To celebrate, we are hosting our own Mr. Smith on Tuesday, Oct. 16th. He'll be talking in the library at lunch about the writing process, the power of words, and his new novel Passenger. If you've read any of his novels Ghost Medicine, In the Path of Falling Objects, Marbury Lens, or Stick, you know that Mr. Smith writes great stories. You can attend his talk in the library at lunch if you get a ticket from your English teacher. Remember this is a ticketed event! You'll have to have a ticket to attend, and you can get yours from your English teacher. See you in the library, IF YOU DARE!

By the way-the library will only be open to ticket holders @ lunch Oct. 16th for this event.

CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (CHSPE): The California High School Proficiency Examination will be administered on Oct. 20, 2012.  The emergency registration deadline is Oct. 16, 2012 and costs $160.00.  This exam is for students interested in an alternative to graduating from high school so they could move ahead to higher education or prepare for a career.  You can earn the legal equivalent of a high school diploma by proving your proficiency in basic skills though the CHSPE exam.  You must be 16-years old, or, if 15, must be in your last semester of 10th grade.  See Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office for an application or apply online at www.chspe.net.

LIBRARY BOOKS: Have you checked the due date of your library book? You can find it inside the front cover. Remember to return or renew your books on time and avoid annoying fines that start to add up quickly. The book drop is located inside the library at the circulation desk.
