HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO JOIN SAFE RIDES: If you can volunteer one night a month you can save a life. Come to the training THIS Saturday, March 17th from noon to 5:00 at the City Activity Center - by the Skate Park. Check out all the information on the Safe Rides website ScvSafeRides.com. If you are at least 15 years old you can join but Safe Rides really needs more Drivers!
PARKING PERMITS: SENIORS AND JUNIORS ONLY!!!!! 15 parking permits go on sale, TODAY, Monday, March 12, in the ASB Office..First come, First serve. All your paperwork must be completed to buy one of these spots.
ATTENTION SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS: If you took the National Spanish Examination and want to complete the Proficiency part of the exam, see Mrs. Seidenkranz or Mrs. Santos ASAP to sign-up. The final test date will be Wednesday, March 21st, at 7AM.
FRIDAY IS SANTA CLARITA SHERIFF, STATION 28TH ANNUAL "ALL SCHOOLS DANCE" at Magic Mountain from 7pm-11pm (Open to Santa Clarita student’s only-grades 8-12 with school I.D.). The park is closed that day but they will have "Batman the ride" and "The Green Lantern" open for unlimited rides. There will be a D.J. and light show as well as great prizes given out. All this for $5.00 per person.
7th period boys and girls soccer will begin tournament play this Friday. Please be prepared to play soccer. Check Mr. Savage's class for team assignment. Remember this is your PE class, so attendance is Mandatory.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A JOB FOR THE SUMMER that pays $8/hour, have or are over-coming some life obstacles, and are between the ages of 14- 18, perhaps the YES program is for you. YES stands for the Youth Employment Services. This program is through the City of Santa Clarita and it is for a student who maybe has an IEP, or financial concerns at home, or has had other challenges they are overcoming. Applications are due Friday, April 20th, and you may go to www.santa-clarita.com/jobs for an application. On Wednesday April 25th there is a pre-interview workshop and interviews will be in early May. Work begins June 11th. Some applications are available in the Counseling Office.

THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA is looking for mature, enthusiastic teens to fill Part-Time Camp Counselor job opportunities for current seniors (class of 2012) and Counselor-in-Training volunteer opportunities for sophomores and juniors. UC BERKELEY is having their annual CAL DAY on April 21st for interested students and their families. It is free and goes from 9am to 4pm. Listen to recorded information at 510.642.2294 and view a complete schedule of activities (over 300! guided tours, free family admission to their three museums ~ Lawrence Hall of Science, Hearst Museum of Anthropology, and Berkeley Art Museum ~, see the labs, classrooms, libraries, and residence halls AND you can go hear talks from faculty and student music performances and see student dance performances, or learn Swahili in one 30-minute lesson) available on-line March 29th at calday.berkeley.edu
ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS: AP students will receive AP Exam Registration information starting TODAY. AP Exam registration has started and run will run through March 16th, 1:00 PM. Students may register before school, brunch or during lunch in the ASB office. The fee for each test is $87, unless the student participates in the free or reduced lunch program. Students can see Mrs. Schwamb in the Health Office to learn about this program. Don’t forget to sign up!!!

SENIOR STARS: If you have been accepted to a 4-year college or university and plan on attending that school in the fall, please see Mrs. Hettema in the counseling office. We will make a star in your honor and place it on the Senior Stars bulletin board outside of the counseling office. Also, if you have received notice of any scholarships or awards, please let Mrs. Hettema know.
Are you are girl and interested in being a FIREFIGHTER? There is a Firefighting Expo on Saturday, April 14th, from 10am to 2pm, 626 N. Eckhoff Street in Orange, California. ARE YOU A SENIOR WHO WILL BE ATTENDING A UC UNIVERSITY IN THE FALL? If so, make sure that you have signed up for the AWPE (the Analytical Writing Placement Exam). The exam will be given on Saturday, May 12th. Some UC-bound seniors are exempt and do not need to take this exam if they have ON FILE with the UCs an acceptable score on 1) the SAT, 2)the ACT w/writing test, 3) the AP exam for either AP Lang or AP Lit, or 4) an IB exam (we do not have IB exams at Canyon). INTERESTED IN GOING AWAY FOR COLLEGE BUT DON’T HAVE A LOT OF MONEY? Butte College is in Oroville (northern California), and it is a great gateway college to many respected universities. Total annual enrollment and fees are $5,884 compared to about $15,000 for Chico state or San Diego State, or about $37,000 for UCLA or US Berkeley. Total costs w/ living costs are $16,000. (the CSUs are about $30,000 and the UCs are over $54,000). Butte also has over 100 degree and certificate programs. You can contact Cindy Phelps in the admissions office at [email protected]
SENIORS: The SCV Association of California School Administrators is offering multiple scholarships ranging from 200 to 500 dollars. To apply you need to have gone to a school in Santa Clarita for at least seven years (including at least one year of elementary school), have applied to a trade school, community college, or four year college, and have at least a 2.5 GPA. If you qualify, please pick up an application in the counseling office. Applications are due back to Mrs. Goller before March 26th.
SENIORS: Are you planning a career in education? If you have a GPA of at least 2.5 the SCV Education Foundation has a scholarship for you! The application must be mailed in by March 16th. Please come up to the Counseling Office for an application.
