GENERAL

 

ROP - Last day to drop or change an ROP class is February 1.  Please see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office to drop your ROP class.

 

CANYON HIGH’S 2ND ANNUAL CAREER IN ARTS WEEK is fast approaching February 7- 10th. The speakers we have are an animator, architect, game designer, interior designer, TV production coordinator, music software creator and set designer and we might be adding more.  The week will also feature performances and displayed art from our students. Be sure to talk to a Fine Art teacher for more details.

 

OPEN PERIOD STICKERS:   If you need an Open Period Sticker on the back of your ID card for this semester, please bring BOTH your ID card AND your printed schedule to the AP office before school, at brunch, or lunch all this week.  We will process as many as we can each day.  Please be patient and carry your printed schedule with you until your stickers are assigned correctly.

 

COWBOY FOOTBALL FUNDRAISER: When:  Saturday, February 4, from 3-5pm.  Where:  Canyon High School Gym.  What:  Zumba.  Cost is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door.  All proceeds go to the Canyon Cowboy Football Program.

 

GIRLS' SOCCER GOODWILL FUNDRAISER: Everyone has a Goodwill pile somewhere, right?  Donate your Goodwill items (clothing, furniture, small appliances, toys, etc.) and eWaste items (TVs,

VCRs, faxes, printers, phones - working or not) to help the Girls' Soccer Program. Every bag helps!! Saturday, Feb 4, 9:00 to 3:00, in the parking lot, or call Jean for a pickup (818)406-2218

 

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS:  Are you truly a member, or do you just think you are?   Do we have the correct spelling of your name?   Please check the list we have posted on the SHH bulletin board ASAP.  If you are missing ANYTHING according to our list, you must get this resolved on Monday morning before 1st period in D-6.  If you fail to check the list and/or resolve the issue as posted, you may be dropped from Spanish Honor Society.

 

CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION (CSF): Spring semester applications for membership in CSF are available this week in the library. You can also download the application and the volunteer hours form off the CSF page of the library's website available at http://canyonpathfinders.wikispaces.com/CSF. Remember, you must reapply for membership in CSF every semester you qualify in order to maintain active membership. All applications are subject to review before granting membership. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Hermelin.

 

REMINDER FOR ALL STUDENTS IN THE WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM: Our class will meet at lunch Monday in Mr. Ward's room, A-3.

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB (and other board games of skill) meet today in G-117.  Bring your lunch.

 

HEY KEY CLUBBERS!!  Don’t forget to turn in your hours to V-1 by TODAY.  Our next General meeting will be on Tuesday, January 30 in the A-Lecture Hall at lunch.

 

GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) Club Meeting- The first GSA Meeting of spring semester is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 1st. during LUNCH in the A-Lecture Hall. New members are welcome! Bring a friend and join us. T-Shirts are available for purchase ($15). See you there.

 

 

 

SENIORS

 

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS:

Senior Scholarship:  There is a $2500 scholarship awarded by the Canyon Country Optimist Club.  To apply you must fill out an application and write an essay on the topic, "How my Positive Outlook Benefits my Community."  The deadline is February 1st.  Please stop by the counseling office for the application.

 

There is a $2000 scholarship being offered by Ronald McDonald House Charities.  To apply you need 1 2.7 GPA and have at least one parent of Asian Pacific heritage.  Please stop by the counseling office for a packet.  The deadline is January 27th.

 

There is $5000 scholarship being offered by Ronald McDonald House Charities.  To apply you need a 2.7 GPA and have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage.  Please stop by the counseling office for a packet.  The deadline is January 27th.

 

There is an $800 scholarship being offered by the Santa Clarita Emblem Club.  As long as you are a senior planning to further your education you can apply for this scholarship!!!  Please pick up an application in the counseling office.  This application must be postmarked by February 15th.

 

Best Buy is offering scholarships of $1000 dollars.  Please apply online at www.at15.com.  The deadline is February 15th.

 

Your best chance for scholarships will come through the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation.  One application will apply for over 15 scholarships just for Canyon Students.  The biggest cash award is $5000 dollars.  DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!  You can download an application from www.scvsf.org. or from the main page of the Canyon High website.  The deadline for this scholarship is February 3rd.

 

There are hundreds of scholarships listed on the main page of the Canyon High website.  Look on the right hand side under Scholarship Info.  There is a list by due date and the links to help you apply.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Goller in the counseling office.
