DIFFERENT SCHEDULE THIS WEEK: EVERY 15 MINUTES: Friday, January 27
GENERAL
NO PARKING IN THE DIRT ON THURSDAY: Students and Staff, there will be NO PARKING in the dirt area immediately across from the circle drive in front of the school on Thursday of this week. This area will be blocked off by the City on Wednesday night for the "Every 15 Minutes" program being held on Thursday morning. You may park anywhere else on Nadal. Just NOT immediately in front of the school. Please plan accordingly, and carpool with other people to reduce the number of cars here on campus this Thursday.
EVERY 15 MINUTES THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY - Please listen carefully to your 2nd period teachers as they read the "scripts" preparing you for the Every 15 Minutes program which will occur here at Canyon this Thursday and Friday. This program is presented at each high school in our District every 2 years. Thursday's schedule will be a normal day, but 11th and 12th graders will attend the simulated car crash scene during period 5. Friday's schedule will be different, including the mandatory assembly after period 3 for ALL juniors and seniors to attend.
THE LIBRARY will be closing at 3:00 this Thursday. Please remember to make other after school plans.
STUDENTS: Please do NOT come to the Counseling Office to request a program change. There will be no more student- initiated program changes made. Have a great semester!
ROP - Last day to drop or change an ROP class is February 1. Please see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office to drop your ROP class.
OPEN PERIOD STICKERS: If you need an Open Period Sticker on the back of your ID card for this semester, please bring BOTH your ID card AND your printed schedule to the AP office before school, at brunch, or lunch all this week. We will process as many as we can each day. Please be patient and carry your printed schedule with you until your stickers are assigned correctly.
CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION (CSF): Spring semester applications for membership in CSF are available this week in the library. You can also download the application and the volunteer hours form off the CSF page of the library's website available at http://canyonpathfinders.wikispaces.com/CSF. Remember, you must reapply for membership in CSF every semester you qualify in order to maintain active membership. All applications are subject to review before granting membership. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Hermelin.
REMINDER FOR ALL STUDENTS IN THE WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM: Our class will meet at lunch Monday in Mr. Ward's room, A-3.
Atención atención! Spanish Honor Society Members!!!!! The National Spanish Examination date is quickly approaching, and we must register all interested students this week before the deadline. If you would like credit for 3 events and the opportunity to earn yourself either a monetary or travel award, sign up with Mrs. Santos or Mrs. Seidenkranz by TODAY. The practice test will be Monday, February 6 after school, and the actual test will be Monday and Tuesday March 5th and 6th. More info to follow at our next meeting, February 2nd!

MOCK SAT SATURDAY, JANUARY 28th-- Sophomores! Juniors! The SAT is fast approaching, but you can get ahead of the curve by taking a mock SAT on Saturday, January 28th. It runs from 9 to 1 here at Canyon High in E5 and the best part is that it's only 20 bucks! The real test is more than twice that. Practice while you can-- all are welcome. JAZZ/POP MEETING--TODAY there will be an informational meeting about Jazz/Pop. If you are interested in being part of this fabulous concert, please come to the choir room during brunch. Please arrive quickly so that we have most of the brunch period to give out lots of information. Remember, you don't have to be in choir to audition for Jazz/Pop--you just have to be talented! Don't miss this great opportunity!

SENIORS
SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS:
Senior Scholarship: There is a $2500 scholarship awarded by the Canyon Country Optimist Club. To apply you must fill out an application and write an essay on the topic, "How my Positive Outlook Benefits my Community." The deadline is February 1st. Please stop by the counseling office for the application.
There is a $2000 scholarship being offered by Ronald McDonald House Charities. To apply you need 1 2.7 GPA and have at least one parent of Asian Pacific heritage. Please stop by the counseling office for a packet. The deadline is January 27th.
There is $5000 scholarship being offered by Ronald McDonald House Charities. To apply you need a 2.7 GPA and have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage. Please stop by the counseling office for a packet. The deadline is January 27th.
There is an $800 scholarship being offered by the Santa Clarita Emblem Club. As long as you are a senior planning to further your education you can apply for this scholarship!!! Please pick up an application in the counseling office. This application must be postmarked by February 15th.
Best Buy is offering scholarships of $1000 dollars. Please apply online at www.at15.com. The deadline is February 15th.
Your best chance for scholarships will come through the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation. One application will apply for over 15 scholarships just for Canyon Students. The biggest cash award is $5000 dollars. DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY! You can download an application from www.scvsf.org. or from the main page of the Canyon High website. The deadline for this scholarship is February 3rd.
