GENERAL
JOIN CANYON LEADERSHIP on Friday, October 7, wear a blue shirt in honor of bullying prevention day.
The PSAT will be hosted at Canyon High School Wednesday, October 12, 2011 and is sold out. The PSAT will start promptly at 7:45 am with Juniors reporting to the Main Gym and Sophomores reporting to the Auxiliary Gym. There will be no late admissions or refunds given to those who are late or absent for any reason. Please have a good nights sleep and healthy breakfast prior to taking the test and be sure to bring at least two #2 pencils and a scientific or graphing calculator is recommended but no other type of electronic devices are permitted - That includes cell phones. Please bring your student ID or social security card and no food or drink will be permitted, except beverages in clear unlabeled bottles. Thank you for your help and adherence to the rules and good luck on the test!
NROTC Scholarship Meeting on October 25th in A-Lecture Hall from 12:30-1:00 pm.
The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps is a scholarship that pays up to $180,000 for school. It is intended for Seniors and Juniors the application process should begin in their junior year, as the recipients are notified in the fall and winter of their senior year. The applicants must achieve a score of 1000 on their SAT or a score of 22(combined math and
verbal) on their ACT. The way it works is the individual will attend school
from September to June and during the summer they will be doing Marine
training. Last year LA County had 8 recipients, one of them being from here
Santa Clarita.

CALLING ALL MEN! Don’t forget to register for Selective Service within 30 days of your 18th birthday. Registering keeps you eligible for financial aid, government jobs and job training. It’s quick. It’s easy. And it’s the law. To register in less than 2 minutes, go to www.sss.gov. Also, if you are a senior and are applying to a Cal State School, there is a place on the college Application where 18 year old students may sign up for the selective service.

MODELS OF PRIDE: Sat. October 15th-at University of Southern California (USC)
This FREE one day workshop focuses on concerns of Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ) youth up to age 24. Workshops are for youth, and parents. STUDENTS, would you like to learn first-hand about a career that interests you? Do a job shadow at a local business in Santa Clarita where you can see what someone does at work. There are opportunities to shadow in many different industries. Contact Pam Malowe at the district office.
TEEN READ WEEK is coming October 16-22: The theme this year is Picture It @ your library! During that week the Book Club is sponsoring an art contest for the best interpretation of the theme. We want to see how you picture a scene from a book you've read or are currently reading. While you're here, check out our growing selection of graphic novels, art books, photography guides, and fantasy titles. The Friendly Valley Jewish Community Center is hosting a dinner on Oct. 16 and needs some help setting up in the morning and serving the dinner in the evening.
