GENERAL

 

CANYON FOOTBALL GAMES:  A reminder to students that once you enter the football game and leave, YOU MAY NOT RE-ENTER.  If you need a sweater, blanket etc., remember to bring it in with you when you arrive.  Skateboards and Scooters are NOT allowed in the stadium or parking lot—DO NOT BRING THEM WITH YOU!!!  Since this is a school sponsored event, the Canyon High School DRESS CODE will be strictly enforced.  ANY inappropriate attire (clothing, accessories, headgear or body paint) will result in entrance refusal and possible removal if non-compliant.

 

JOIN CANYON LEADERSHIP on Friday, October 7, wear a blue shirt in honor of bullying prevention day.

 

MODELS OF PRIDE: Sat. October 15th-at University of Southern California (USC)

This FREE one day workshop focuses on concerns of Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ)youth up to age 24. Workshops are for youth, and parents. The day also includes a resource fair, entertainment, food, dance and friendship. Parking for the event is $8. NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY will be at CAL ARTS on Saturday October 1st.  Portfolio Days bring young artists and the staffs of up to 100 art colleges from across the country together; reps view student work, offer critiques, discuss college plans, and share info about their schools/programs.  For more info you can go to www.portfolioday.net

 

STUDENTS, would you like to learn first-hand about a career that interests you?  Do a job shadow at a local business in Santa Clarita where you can see what someone does at work.  There are opportunities to shadow in many different industries.  Contact Pam Malowe at the district office.

 

 

 

TEEN READ WEEK is coming October 16-22: The theme this year is Picture It @ your library! During that week the Book Club is sponsoring an art contest for the best interpretation of the theme. We want to see how you picture a scene from a book you've read or are currently reading. While you're here, check out our growing selection of graphic novels, art books, photography guides, and fantasy titles. Stop by today and pick up a flier about our art contest or just to find something that inspires you, and read...just for the fun of it!

 

ATTENTION CSF MEMBERS and other service groups on campus! The Friendly Valley Jewish Community Center is hosting a dinner on Oct. 16 and needs some help setting up in the morning and serving the dinner in the evening. If you're looking for a service opportunity, contact Mrs. Hermelin in the library to find out the details and get the contact information.

 

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST?

The ROP Cosmetology Class might be for you.  If you are a junior and interested in the ROP Cosmetology Class, you must see Mrs. Gaines in the ROP office as soon as possible to pick up your application packet.  The application deadline is November 1, 2011.

 

STUDENTS REQUESTING OFF CAMPUS PASSES please bring a note from a parent and take it to the attendance office before school, at brunch or lunch to receive your permit to leave.  If you do not have a note...parents must call the office in the morning and request a pass.

Juniors and Seniors...most of you are through with school at lunch time... remember to make your appointments after  you have finished with your school day.

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB (and other board games of skill) meet Friday in G-117.  Bring your lunch

 

THE DANCE CLUB will meet this Friday at lunch in room AA1.

 

SENIORS

 

MR CANYON APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE!  Mr. Canyon, which is set for November 16th, is now accepting applications. Mr. Canyon is a male pageant that is only available for Senior boys. It is a fun night where our top seniors can strut their stuff and show off their personalities while competing for the title of Mr. Canyon 2012.

The actual event will happen at 7pm in the main gym on 11-12-2011. Hope to see you there and please hurry to get applications in. The applications need to be submitted by TODAY. Check Canyon's website for details and the application...
