GENERAL

ALL CANYON STUDENTS are reminded that when we have minimum day, they may NOT visit other campuses, including Sierra Vista.  Other schools are in full day session and it is a trespassing violation to be on their campus while their school is in session.  Avoid disciplinary action and a trespassing ticket!  Do not visit other schools when Canyon has a minimum day!

 

MATH TUTORING WITH MRS. DENNY is canceled today.  Please stop by next week in G216 to get math help.  Don't forget that tutoring in math is also offered before school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; at lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

 

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT IS TONIGHT:  As part of the evening, there is an English language advisory meeting starting at 6:00 p.m.  6:45 is the starting time for performing groups on the Outdoor Stage.  7:00 is the starting time to visit classrooms. 

 

CANYON FOOTBALL GAMES:  A reminder to students that once you enter the football game and leave, YOU MAY NOT RE-ENTER.  If you need a sweater, blanket etc., remember to bring it in with you when you arrive.  Skateboards and Scooters are NOT allowed in the stadium or parking lot—DO NOT BRING THEM WITH YOU!!!  Since this is a school sponsored event, the Canyon High School DRESS CODE will be strictly enforced.  ANY inappropriate attire (clothing, accessories, headgear or body paint) will result in entrance refusal and possible removal if non-compliant.

 

IF YOU PARTICIPATED in the Free and Reduced lunch program last school year and you have not already submitted a new application for the 2011-2012 school year, please submit one immediately. This will prevent a lapse in your eligibility otherwise services will be terminated Sept. 15.  Applications can be picked up in the health office.

 

ARE YOU A JUNIOR OR SENIOR WHO HASN’T PASSED ONE OR BOTH SECTIONSOF THE CAHSEE?  If so, there are classes being offered after school to help you pass the exam in Nov.  If you need help in English you can attend classes on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4 pm with Miss.Lamedman in C-3.  If you need help in Math, you can attend classes on Monday and Wednesday from 3-4 pm in G-208 with Mr. Murphy.  Classes have already begun but it’s not too late to go and get extra help.  Remember, you must pass both sections of the CAHSEE to earn a high school diploma. 

COWBOYS!  Don’t forget!  Today are the auditions for the Fall Harvest Festival.  Come and sing, play, bring in your band, or even put on an act.  Auditions will be held in the choir room after school, starting at 12:30.

 

THEY HAVE ARRIVED: PLEASE come pick up your Adult/ Youth ASB cards in the ASB office.

HEY KEY CLUBBERS!  Don’t forget to turn in all Key Club papers and dues to V-1 at lunch by Friday.

 

HEY COWBOYS! Homecoming Tickets are on sale now, $10 with an ASB card and $15 without an ASB card. The first 200 tickets will get a free promo mix cd!! Yes I said a FREE mix cd when you buy your ticket! The dance is on October 1st from 7-11pm in the gym.

 

HEY ARE YOU A REALCOWBOY? Do you ride horses? Did you know we have an Equestrian Team here at Canyon? If you ride English and want to compete, be a part of this new team of riders and come to an informational meeting this Friday at lunch in T-1. And see Ms. Hart if you have any questions.

 

PSAT STUDY guides have arrived and are now available in the counseling office for sophomores and juniors who have signed up for the PSAT which will be given on October 12 at Canyon. Please pick up your study guide as soon as possible and remember that a good score will put you in contention for the National Merit Scholarship!

 

MAKE-UP SCHOOL PHOTOS:  Students still needing to take their school photos should report to room S-4 on Tuesday, September 13 before school or at either brunch.

 

THE LIBRARY is looking for students who are interested in interior design to work on a project refurbishing the library's reading area. We need creative individuals who are up for the challenge of making this space inviting on a very limited budget. We'll have our first meeting at lunch on Sept.12th at lunch in the library. Come join us and share your ideas!

 

The Very LAST day to buy parking permits for the semester is Sept. 9 before school, brunch and lunch. They will not be available again until Feb. You have had ample time to get ALL your paperwork in order and get to the ASB office.

 

HEY COWBOYS:  Please come and support Canyon Cheer TONIGHT at Jersey Mike’s from  4-8 p.m.  No Flyer is needed.  Hope to see you there!!

 

MOCK SAT AND ACT:  Mock SAT and ACT-- Ok Cowboys- who's stressed out about SATs?  How about the ACT?  Good news- the AVID program is sponsoring a mock SAT and ACT on September 17th, here on Canyon's campus.  It's only $20 (which is almost $30 less than the actual test) and you receive a detailed score report that identifies the areas where you can really improve!  Stop by E5 to see Ms. Jones or register online at revolutionprep.com.  Hurry- space is limited!

BRAINSTORMERS!  Come to our first meeting of the year on Monday, Sept. 12 during lunch in D5.  We will be deciding on a meeting day, discussing fundraising, and of course, playing our first game of the year.
