GENERAL

 

HEALTH OFFICE:  Students PLEASE DO NOT call or text your parents from a classroom or on campus to tell them you don’t feel well.  GET A PASS FROM YOUR TEACHER TO GO TO THE HEALTH OFFICE.  Mrs. Schwamb will call your parents from the Health Office. 

 

ARE YOU A FAN OF SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE? Then check out Canyon's own Sketch Comedy Group TODAY at 6 PM in the Q-Theatre. Tickets are $2. It's a great way to spend a Friday night!

 

SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN IS STILL HIRING STUDENT WORKERS. Apply at www.sixflags.com/magicmountain or from the Hart District website, under the student tab, select Career Center to search the available jobs and apply!

 

DANCE TEAM TRYOUTS ARE COMING!!   If you want to try out, your parent or guardian MUST attend a MANDATORY Parent Meeting on March 29th, at 7:00 pm. in the Q-Theater here on campus. See Mrs. Arnold in G-220 if you have any questions." 

 

ATTENTION CURRENT SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS!  All paperwork is due Monday, March 21st at lunch in D-2. First come, first served.   No exceptions!

 

HERE’S YOUR CHANCE TO JOIN SAFE RIDES-  If you can volunteer a few hours a month – YOU can save a life. Safe Rides is holding a volunteer training on March 19th at the City Activity Center from 11am to 4pm.  Volunteers must be between the age of 15 and 18.  For more information go to www.scvsaferides.com.  Don’t miss this date – the next training won’t be until Fall 2011.  Safe Rides is a great way to get community service hours.

 

The ASVAB results will be given in the library on Tuesday March 29 with the library closed at brunches on that day. 

FOR 10TH AND 11TH GRADERS:  2011 Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project SUMMER CONFERENCE: Sat., July 23rd - Sat., July 30th in SACRAMENTO!  Applications due April 15th.  Spend a day in the State Legislature in the state capitol, attend a day of workshops need to run and organize a political campaign, attend a Career and College Fair so you can meet college recruiters, learn about financial aid, and learn more about Chicano Latino culture and history.  Come and build relationships with esteemed professionals, mentors, and role models.  Students attend CLYLP at no cost to themselves or their families.  CLYLP is a volunteer-run, non-profit, non-partisan organization.  Application includes letters of recommendations, 3 essays, and demonstrated leadership potential.  Call 916.466.1640 or go to www.clylp.org  If you are not selected for the week in Sacramento, you may qualify to attend a 3-day conference at UCLA.  Applications are available in the counseling office.

 

MEETINGS

 

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB AND other board games will meet in G-127 at lunch.  Bring your lunch, skill, enthusiasm and play/ learn the game of Kings and Queens.  Questions, please see Mr. Clark

 

HEY KEY CLUBBERS!  There's a General Meeting Tuesday and Wednesday March 22 and 23 at lunch in the A-lecture Hall! Wear your shirts! See you all there!

 

SENIORS

 

SCHOLARSHIP:  Seniors, have you been attending school in Santa Clarita for at least 7 years?  If so, there is a scholarship for you!  Additional requirements are at least a 2.5 GPA and application to a trade school, community college, or four year university.  Please stop by the counseling office for an application.  Applications are due to Mrs. Goller by March 31sat.

 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS – Is English your second language?  The Canyon Academic Booster Club is awarding a scholarship to an outstanding Canyon Senior who participated in the ELD program at Canyon.  If you took EL classes, and plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college, pick up this one-page application from the Counseling office, due by the end of April.

 

GREATER LOS ANGELES NATI0NAL COLLEGE FAIR at the Pasadena Civic Center:  Meet with Reps from Penn State, George Washington University, Vanderbilt, Seattle University, Tulane, Evergreen State, Purdue, Villanova, The University of Hawaii, and over 200 other colleges & universities!  You can go Wed., March 30th 6-9pm OR Thursday, March 31 from 9am to noon.  For more details:  www.nacacnet.org
