GENERAL

 

YEARBOOKS:  The end of the year is right around the corner...did you buy YOUR yearbook yet? Yearbooks are on sale until spring break for $90 with ASB card and $95 w/o. Prices will increase after spring break so don't miss your last opportunity get your copy in ASB today before we sell out.

     

THE ENTIRE LIBRARY will be closed for both brunches on Wednesday, March 16th. The counseling department is giving the ASVAB test. If you're interested in signing up for the ASVAB, check with your counselor. 

 

SAFE RIDES:  Here’s your chance to join Safe Rides.  If you can volunteer a few hours a month – YOU can save a life. Safe Rides is holding a volunteer training on March 19th at the City Activity Center from 11am to 4pm.  Volunteers must be between the age of 15 and 18.  For more information go to www.scvsaferides.com.  Don’t miss this date – the next training won’t be until Fall 2011.  Safe Rides is a great way to get community service hours.

 

FOR 10TH AND 11TH GRADERS:  2011 Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project SUMMER CONFERENCE: Sat., July 23rd - Sat., July 30th in SACRAMENTO!  Applications due April 15th.  Spend a day in the State Legislature in the state capitol, attend a day of workshops need to run and organize a political campaign, attend a Career and College Fair so you can meet college recruiters, learn about financial aid, and learn more about Chicano Latino culture and history.  Come and build relationships with esteemed professionals, mentors, and role models.  Students attend CLYLP at no cost to themselves or their families.  CLYLP is a volunteer-run, non-profit, non-partisan organization.  Application includes letters of recommendations, 3 essays, and demonstrated leadership potential.  Call 916.466.1640 or go to www.clylp.org  If you are not selected for the week in Sacramento, you may qualify to attend a 3-day conference at UCLA.  Applications are available in the counseling office.

 

REVOLUTION PREP SAT CLASSES!  Juniors- it's that time!  Are you stressed about the SATs?  Did you know we have a class here on campus, taught by our very own Ms. Jones, that's starting in just a few weeks?  Check revolutionprep.com for more info or visit her in E5 but hurry- classes start March 19th! 

 

THE ASVAB will be given at Canyon on Wednesday, March 16 from 8 am through Lunch and is available for free to all Canyon Students. The ASVAB can be a valuable tool to understand areas of personal strength and areas to focus on improvement as well as a vocational assessment. Successful completion of the ASVAB comes with no strings attached and it is only once a student is out of high school that the ASVAB is taken purely as a military assessment and placement tool as part of the process to enter the military. Sign-ups will be in the Counseling Office.

 

 

 

MEETINGS

 

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB and other board games will meet in G-117 at lunch.  Bring your lunch, skill, enthusiasm and play/ learn the game of Kings and Queens.  Questions, please see Mr. Clark.

 

STUDENTS, did you enjoy the Children's Rights Camp held in the Senior Quad on March 4th? Are you curious in becoming a Student Task force member? Then come to a meeting on Tuesday in G-201 at lunch, where Student Task force will be planning their next on campus activity and in honor of Juvenile Justice, you may soon see your fellow STF members strutting our halls with a nametag, don't hesitate to ask what they are for.

 

SENIORS

 

GREATER LOS ANGELES NATI0NAL COLLEGE FAIR at the Pasadena Civic Center:  Meet with Reps from Penn State, George Washington University, Vanderbilt, Seattle University, Tulane, Evergreen State, Purdue, Villanova, The University of Hawaii, and over 200 other colleges & universities!  You can go Wed., March 30th 6-9pm OR Thursday, March 31 from 9am to noon.  For more details:  www.nacacnet.org

 

SENIORS:   DeVry University's Presidential Scholarship is worth up to $32,500!   Seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.33 or higher, plus an SAT score of at least 1100 on the combined Math & Critical Reading sections / or / a 2400 on the ACT test, will qualify to apply for this scholarship.  DON'T WAIT - Call the representative from DeVry (James Shanbrom) at (661) 547-2422 or email him at [email protected]  immediately.  This application is DUE next MONDAY, MARCH 14!!!
