GENERAL

 

GOOD LUCK TO THE VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM—THEY TRAVEL TO MONACHE HIGH SCHOOL IN PORTERVILLE TODAY  FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF CIF STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.

 

NO MORE PARKING PASSES---THEY ARE ALL SOLD OUT!!!

 

FOOD DAY # 3 is Wednesday. March 9th.

 

LETTERMAN JACKET SALES: Brunches only Thursday March 10th

 

FREE SAT PREP CLASS:   Tier One SAT Prep company has offered again to donate SAT prep classes to our school for ONLY the cost of materials ($90).   There will be over 20 hours of class time plus 2 full-length proctored exams, as well as complete materials and methods for understanding the entire exam.   Classes will be held for 6 weeks on Thursdays, starting March 17th.   (Please Note:  There will be ONE Wednesday class on March 23rd, since Open House is on that Thursday.)   For the list of dates, please download the flyer from the school website, or pick up a flyer in the AP office and Counseling office.   You will call Tier One directly to register.  BUT HURRY!   DON'T FORGET!   The deadline to Register is THIS THURSDAY, March 10th!!!   All college-bound 11th graders are encouraged to take this class in preparation for the May 7th or June 4th SAT tests. 

 

ARE YOU A SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, OR SENIOR?  You are invited to the Ventura / Tri County National College Fair will be Tuesday, March 29th, from 5:30 to 8:30pm.  It will be at the Seaside Park, at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.  They will have a resource center for information about financial aid, scholarship organizations, a counseling center to help students find schools that match their interests, and workshops where experts will students and parents the "inside scoop" on various subjects to simplify the steps to college.  Please come to the counseling office to get a flyer or reminder slip or you can go to www.nationalcollegefairs.org

 

JUNIORS: Counselors are working fast and furiously to see you to plan your 12th grade schedule. We WILL get to each and every junior! Classes are not assigned until summer, so please wait until your counselor has time to summons you. Please keep your pink Registration Worksheet in your backpack until you are called in. Your patience is appreciated.

 

 

 

ACADEMY OF THE CANYONS:  Make a change and be a part of a unique, rewarding high school experience! If you would like to learn more about Academy of the Canyons Middle College High School, you and your parents are invited to attend an information meeting on Wednesday, February 23 in the Valencia High MPR at 7:00 p.m. or at College of the Canyons Cafeteria on

Thursday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m.

 

Mock SAT on March 12th-- Is the SAT keeping you up at night?  Do parabolas and adverbs swim through your dreams?  Come take the Mock SAT on March 12 here on Canyon's campus on March 12th.  The test will run from 8:45 to 1 in E5 and only costs $20!  Questions?  Go to revolutionprep.com to register or stop by to see Ms. Jones in E5.  It's the best deal for SAT prep!

 

REVOLUTION PREP SAT CLASSES!  Juniors- it's that time!  Are you stressed about the SATs?  Did you know we have a class here on campus, taught by our very own Ms. Jones, that's starting in just a few weeks?  Check revolutionprep.com for more info or visit her in E5 but hurry- classes start March 19th! 

 

HEY ALL YOU CREATIVE COWBOYS, if you like to write short stories or poetry, we have the elective for you!  Next year Canyon will offer Lit Magazine as an elective class.  The class will work on creative writing skills and will be in charge of producing the annual literary magazine.  We will also be teaming up with yearbook to work on various projects as a group.  If you are searching for a way to express yourself through your writing, this is the class for you!  Please see Ms. Feix in C4 or Mr. McCann in the T building if you are interested in signing up.

 

PROM:  It's time to start thinking about Prom again!! Tickets will be going on sale for all Senior Fun Pack holders on March 9th for $200 per couple with your ASB card.  Tickets will be opened up to all Juniors and Seniors the following Monday, March 14th for the same price.  Buy your tickets early to avoid the increase in price. 

 

THE ASVAB will be given at Canyon on Wednesday, March 16 from 8 am through Lunch and is available for free to all Canyon Students. The ASVAB can be a valuable tool to understand areas of personal strength and areas to focus on improvement as well as a vocational assessment. Successful completion of the ASVAB comes with no strings attached and it is only once a student is out of high school that the ASVAB is taken purely as a military assessment and placement tool as part of the process to enter the military. Sign-ups will be in the Counseling Officer starting on February 24th, 2011.
