GENERAL

 

DO YOU LIKE TO COOK?  Have you taken Culinary 1 and 2?  See your counselor to sign up for

Culinary 3 next semester.

 

MATCHMAKER RESULTS:  It’s never too late to find your perfect match.  Go to the front of ASB at brunch or lunch all this week to buy your Matchmaker results.  The prices are 1 for $3.00, 2 for $5.00, and 3 for $6.00. 

 

HEY KEY CLUBBERS!  If you are a freshman or sophomore, then we encourage you to sign up for our executive board.  Also, remember that interviews for potential officers are this Friday, February 25, in room V-1 at lunch.  We are also having a fundraiser for Pennies for Patients.  Donate during you second period class, and the class that raises the most money will get a donut party.

 

ACADEMY OF THE CANYONS: Make a change and be a part of a unique, rewarding high school experience! If you would like to learn more about Academy of the Canyons Middle College High School, you and your parents are invited to attend an information meeting on Wednesday, February 23 in the Valencia High MPR at 7:00 p.m. or at College of the Canyons Cafeteria on Thursday, March 10 at

7:00 p.m.

 

ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS:  AP students will receive AP Exam Registration information starting on Thursday, March 4, 2011.  AP Exam registration will start March 7th and run through March 18th, 1:00 PM.  Students may register before school, brunch or during lunch in the ASB office.  The fee for each test is $88, unless the student participates in the free or reduced lunch program.  Students can see Mrs. Nelson in the AP office to learn about this program.  Don’t forget to sign up!!!

NO LATE REGISTRATION WILL BE ACCEPTED

 

MEETINGS

 

OPERATION US: We will be meeting at lunch in E3 TODAY to address some club business.  All Operation US SENIORS need to attend.  Other members are encouraged to attend. 

 

STUDENT TASK FORCE:  Is meeting in room G-201 at lunch. 

 

SENIORS

 

SENIORS:  There is $500 dollar scholarship available if your parent or guardian is classified employee of the Wm. S. Hart High School District AND.  Please pick up an application in the counseling office if you qualify.  Applications are due back to your counselor by March 11th, 2011. 

 

SENIORS:  Are you planning on becoming a teacher?  There is a local scholarship of approximately $2000 if you want to become a teacher and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Please stop by the counseling office if you are interested.

 

 Summer Programs for 2011

 

These special programs are for high school students.  Some of them offer college credits as well.

 

·         UCSB Summer Sessions Research Mentorship Program

o        Earn 8 UC credits and participate in graduate level research

o        Learn video game programming, 3D computer animation, and robotics

·         The George Washington University Pre-College Program

o        Non-credit courses allow students to examine their favorite subjects or discover a new interest while exploring course-related sites in Washington D.C.

o        Opportunity to sample pre-college courses while exploring NYC both in and out of the classroom

  • Cornell University Summer College

o        Get a head start on college by earning an average of 3-6 college credits
