GENERAL

 

HEY COWBOYS COME OUT AND SUPPORT our JV and Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls Basketball teams and all 3 Boys Soccer teams when they play Valencia here at Canyon today. 

 

CAREER IN ARTS WEEK IS HERE NEXT WEEK. If you are interested in a career in music we have Jeff Lippincott, a composer who worked on such shows as The Apprentice, Las Vegas and Scrubs, will be speaking to students on Thursday during 3rd period in the Choir Room, see Ms. Purdy for a permission slip.

Also, Scott Weber a sound mixer from Disney, who won an Emmy for the series Lost will be here on Thursday, 3rd period in the Q Theater, please see Ms. Purdy to get a permission slip to attend.

 

We have Brie Larson an actress on such films as "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" coming to talk to aspiring actors on Friday during 5th period, see Ms. Pechacek in the theater room.

 

If drawing is more your thing, we have animation artists coming on Saturday to talk to students about careers in that industry from 10:00-12:00 in T-3.

 

Congratulations District Honor Band Members:  Congratulations to the following students who were selected to participate in the Hart District Honor Band:  Catherine Conner, Tommy Le, Gaby Valladares, Emmie Banninger, Kayla Tomizawa, Kevin Fulleman, Sam Otis, Lauren DeFigueiredo, Timmy Tomizawa and our two first-chair members, Tempest Lyle and Darren Willett!  GREAT job and CONGRATULATIONS!

 

VAL-O-GRAMS:  Are you looking for the perfect gift to give that perfect someone on campus?  Then a Val-O-Gram is the way to go!  They are only $7 for a flower, balloon, lollipop, card and serenade of LOVE!  They are now on sale NOW through February 11 and can be purchased from any choir student.  Make this season of love one to remember!

 

ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS:  The Advanced Placement Exams will be given the first two weeks of May.  Students will only be able to sign up and pay for exams in March.  The fee for each test is $88, unless the student is on a free or reduced lunch.  Students can see Mrs. Schwamb in the nurse’s office about this program.  Students may pay for the AP Exams March 7th through March 18th in the ASB Office. 

 

HEY COWBOYS, we want your blood!!!  The next blood drive is Wednesday, February 9th.  If you are 16 or older, you can save a life.  Pick up information in G-105.

LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO EARN SOME SCHOLARSHIP MONEY? The Santa Clarita Lions Club is sponsoring the 74th Annual Student Speaker Contest. The topic: "Enforcing our Borders; State vs. Federal Rights." All high school students, grades 9-12 can participate. The contest will be held Thursday Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center in Newhall. There is the potential to win $21,000 in scholarship funds. Come into the library to see Mrs. Hermelin to check out the details.

 

HEY KEY CLUBBERS: We are having a fundraiser for Pennies for Patients, where all proceeds go to the leukemia and lymphoma society.  Look for the boxes in your second period class, and the class that raises the most by February 28th will get a donut party.   If any members are interested in becoming an officer, pick up an application in room V-1 by TODAY!!

 

MEETINGS

 

HEY CANYON HIGH SCHOOL do you like to ride bikes?  Did you know that Canyon has a Mountain Bike racing team?  Yes, it's true!!  The Hart District Mountain Bike racing team meets every Friday at lunch in room B-6.  If you are interested in riding for fun or competition talk to Mr. Blade in B-6 for more information.  Or, come to a meeting TODAY at lunch in room B-6!!  See you there.

 

SENIORS

 

SENIORS:  Are you planning on becoming a teacher?  There is a local scholarship of approximately $2000 if you want to become a teacher and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Please stop by the counseling office if you are interested.

 

SENIORS:  There is $500 dollar scholarship available if your parent or guardian is classified employee of the Wm. S. Hart High School District AND.  Please pick up an application in the counseling office if you qualify.  Applications are due back to your counselor by March 11th, 2011.
