GENERAL

 

LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO EARN SOME SCHOLARSHIP MONEY? The Santa Clarita Lions Club is sponsoring the 74th Annual Student Speaker Contest. The topic: "Enforcing our Borders; State vs. Federal Rights." All high school students, grades 9-12 can participate. The contest will be held Thursday Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center in Newhall. There is the potential to win $21,000 in scholarship funds. Come into the library to see Mrs. Hermelin to check out the details.

 

HEY COWBOYS, we want your blood!!!  The next blood drive is Wednesday, February 9th.  If you are 16 or older, you can save a life.  Pick up information in G-105. 

 

WINTER FORMAL:  TODAY is the last day to buy your Winter Formal tickets.  Don’t forget.  Dress appropriately, have fun and drive safely!!   See next Saturday!

 

FROSH BOYS VOLLEYBALL:  All Frosh boys that are interested in playing Volleyball this Spring, meet in the gym after school any day this week.

 

THE SANTA CLARITA UNITED SOCCER CLUB has volunteer and internship opportunities for interested students. Please see www.scunited.com for more information.

 

GOODWILL DONATION DRIVE supporting the Girls' Soccer program.  Bring your "gently used" items, clothing, furniture, books, computers, housewares, bikes, etc. etc. to the school parking TOMORROW from  9 a.m.-3 a.m.  For a list of acceptable/unacceptable donations or for a pickup call Jean Holliday

at 298-5544.

 

HEY KEY CLUBBERS: We are having a fundraiser for Pennies for Patients, where all proceeds go to the leukemia and lymphoma society.  Look for the boxes in your second period class, and the class that raises the most by February 28th will get a donut party.   If any members are interested in becoming an officer, pick up an application in room V-1 by February 4.

 

THE LOS ANGELES RIVER RANGER DISTRICT on the Angeles National Forest is currently recruiting women and men interested in joining the exciting and rewarding career of Wildland Firefighting and Forest Resource Management.  We offer a variety of employment opportunities (both paid and unpaid) ranging from volunteer and student programs to seasonal and full time employment for men and women.

Some of the available positions include: Firefighters, Foresters, Biologists, Engineers, Accountants, Computer Specialists, Law Enforcement, Public Affairs Specialist Recreation Specialist, Geographic Information Specialists, Archeologists and more.  Most Forest Service employees focus on managing, improving, and protecting our Nation Forests and Grasslands.  Some employees focus on Forest and Range research. We will discuss the many types of jobs, careers available, and the application processes.  Information for the AVUE application process will also be provided.

ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS AND SENIORS ONLY:  It is time to start thinking about Prom Fashion Show.  If you would like to participate in the 2011 Fashion Show, on Friday, March 11, come to the ASB Office to pick up an application starting TODAY.  All applications must be in by Tuesday, February 2.

 

MEETINGS

SENIORS

 

DIPLOMA NAME LIST:  All seniors need to check the diploma name list posted in the display case outside the Counseling Office to make sure that their name is spelled correctly and that it is their legal name.  If you find an error, please see Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office as soon as possible so that a correction can be made.  Otherwise, your name will appear on your diploma as it is written on this list.  All changes and corrections need to be made by 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011.  Copies of birth certificates are required for all changes!

 

SENIORS:..This is the scholarship you've been waiting for! Thousands WILL BE AWARDED to Canyon Seniors! The Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation manages a large number of scholarships for corporate and private donors. One application will put you in the running for a number of scholarships.
