GENERAL

HEY COWBOYS!  The Attendance Office needs you to help them out.  If you have a doctor, dentist, DMV or any other type of appointment—PLEASE have your parents send you with a note to take to the Attendance Office first thing in the morning OR have a parent call the Attendance Office at least 2 hours before you need to leave.

ATTENTION FRESHMEN:  If you still want to be part of the homecoming float, it is not too late.  There is a mandatory meeting TODAY at lunch, in G-105.  See you there.

LETTERMAN JACKET SIZING: will be on the outdoor stage, on Thursday, Oct. 21 during brunches only.

HEY COWBOYS!!  Looking for a refreshing treat on a hot summer day?  EVERY Tuesday after school there will be a Shave-It truck out in the Senior Parking lot from 3-4 p.m.  Support the school band and buy some Shave-It!

ATTENTION YOUNG WRITERS: If you are interested in creative writing and competing in contests with all forms of writing, come to Canyon's Young Writers' Group with Mr. Smith. We will meet Wednesday, October 20, at lunch in Room A - 5.

WANT TO SEE YOUR CREATIVE TALENT IN PRINT?  Canyon's Art and Lit Magazine is now accepting submissions!  We are looking for artwork, photography, poems and short stories that represent this year's theme "Crossroads."  Prizes will be awarded for the best artwork and best piece of writing. Submission forms are available from your art or English teacher, or in C4.  Please see Ms. Feix in C4 if you have any questions.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:  It's time to participate in the Letters About Literature program.  All you need to do is write a letter to the author of a book that has really affected you in some manner.  The letter needs to be between 500 - 800 words.  Your letter should inform rather than flatter the author. Entry guidelines and entry forms can be downloaded from the Internet at: www.loc.gov/letters.  For more information, contact Mrs. Limbaugh in the library.  Letters must be in Mrs. Limbaugh's hands by November 24 and she will be glad to mail the letters for you.

COWBOYS:  Quit daydreaming and come to the Homecoming Dance October 30 in the gym. Tickets are on sale starting today in the ASB Office.  With an ASB Card the cost is $12 a person, without ASB cost is $15 per person, cost at the door is $20 per person.  If you are bringing a guest that does not go to Canyon, the deadline to turn in the paperwork is Friday, October 22.

CANYON WILL BE HOSTING the Stand-Up Diversity Interactive Assembly TONIGHT at 6 pm in the A-Lecture Hall. It is an amazing program that helps individuals gain a deeper understanding of Diversity Issues and how to change stereotypes while increasing campus and community cohesiveness across color and orientation lines. We are very limited in attendance due to the nature of the performance and its effectiveness being based on its interactive nature. Directed by Brian Jeffrey, teacher at Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. and presented as an interactive play by 18 high school students this presentation has been nationally recognized numerous times and recently received the National Education Association's Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Award for commitment to bringing students and the community together. The 6 pm performance will be open attendance and family and friends of Canyon are invited to this special one time only FREE performance. Please sign up to reserve your space in the Canyon Counseling Office.
