NO PAGING DUE TO AP TESTING

GENERAL

 

The library will be closed due to AP testing on the following days:

Tuesday, May 4 from 7:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.

Wednesday, May 5 from 7:00 - the end of 5th period.

Monday, May 10 from the end of 5th period - 5:00p.m.

Wednesday, May 12 from 7:00a.m.- the end of 5th period.

 

Please do not come into the library for any reason.  Thank you.

 

THE LET ME DANCE MARATHON is taking place on May 15th from 11 am to 10 pm in the main gym.  Proceeds will benefit LETMESAIL, a therapeutic organization for mentally disabled individuals in Santa Clarita.  Please turn in all paperwork and money raised to G-105 by May 7th.  This is your chance to have fun with friends and help your community at the same time.

 

HEY CLASS OF 2011:  It is time to order next year’s personalized parking spots.  Paperwork will be available outside of the ASB Office on May 3rd, but may not be turned in until May 10th.  First come, first serve.

 

KEY CLUB:  Don’t forget to go to the Habit fundraiser on Tuesday, May 4.  The flyers are with your English Teachers.  Seniors please go to V-1 to see if you are eligible for the sashes and the senior banquet.

 

ATTENTION ALL NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS: You are required to make a poster by May 5th and help advertise for the blood drive or dance marathon.  Go to Ms. King's room to sign up.  You must turn in $20 for dues to Ms. King by May 5th.  Seniors: the NHS scholarship application is due by May 7th."

 

DON’T BE A DRIP.  DONATE BLOOD.  The last blood drive of the year will be Thursday, May 6th.  Sign up in G-105.  Thank you.

 

ATTENTION ALL NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS: hours sheets and $15 for senior sashes are due on May 18th.

 

ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS AND SENIORS-Powderpuff applications are now available outside the ASB office. Everyone needs to apply again- Junior and senior girls including the boys that would like to be cheerleaders.  No applications were saved from the first set.  Please note that there will be an unlimited number of students for each grade and it will be $5 to participate.  Applications are due by Thurs. May 6th at 1pm.

HEY COWBOYS, there is a new AP class on campus. AP Art History is a fun class where no drawing is necessary. We'll learn who made Stonehenge and why is the Mona Lisa so famous? All while earning AP credit and Fine Art credit! Talk to your counselor or Ms. Hart in T-3 and sign up for the fall!

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

EXPLORING COLLEGE OPTIONS:  Admissions representatives from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn and Stanford will host Exploring College Options Meetings for prospective students and parents in the Los Angeles area during May.  Flyers are available in the Career Center or by going to www.exploringcollegeoptions.org

SENIORS

 

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION:  Students must give the counselors 7-10 days advance notice for letters of recommendations.  Make sure you complete a request for a letter of recommendation form before you give your application to your counselor.  (See Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office if you need a form).

 

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS:

Hey Senior Cowboys.  Have you enjoyed your years at Canyon?  Will you be hard to forget?  The staff at Canyon would like to honor some of you with a scholarship.  Pick up an application in the counseling office or in G-105.

 

TIM AND DANNY RENOLDS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Tim and Danny were two special Canyon brothers who were tragically killed.  Every year, their parents award a $500 dollar scholarship to a senior male athlete in their honor.  If you have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.5 and plan to go to go a trade school community college, or university, please pick up an application in the counseling office.   The deadline for this scholarship is May 7th. 

 

IS THERE A FINANCIAL HARDSHIP in your family that is making it difficult for you to attend college?  Please come to counseling office and pick up an application for the Eileen Shumer Craig Scholarship.  This is a $700 dollar scholarship for a student with a GPA of 2.5 or better that has a demonstrated financial need and is active in the community.  Applications are in the counseling office and the deadline for this scholarship is May 7th.

 

ACADEMIC BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP:  The ABC, which hosts the Academic Banquet each year, is granting several scholarships to seniors for academic achievement here at Canyon High School.  Pick up an application in the Counseling office, and return it to Mrs. Smith by Thursday, May 6, 2010.

 

ENGLISH-LEARNERS ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP:  Seniors who have participated in the EL Program here at Canyon are eligible to apply for this scholarship based on academic achievement.  Pick up an application in the Counseling office, and return it to Mrs. Smith by Thursday, May 6, 2010.

 

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS:  There is a $2000 scholarship for a Canyon student that will attend a 2 or 4 year college, has a GPA of 2.0 through a 3.0, and is a varsity letter winner.  Applications are in the counseling office and the deadline for this scholarship is May 7th. 

 

THERE IS ANOTHER $2000 SCHOLARSHIP for a Canyon student that will attend a 2 or 4 year college, has a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and plans to become a teacher.   Applications are in the counseling office and the deadline for this scholarship is May 7th
