GENERAL

 

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS GOING TO PROM- You need to be at Canyon and in your prom room on Sat by 5pm.   Promenade will start after everyone is in their rooms.  Don't forget your ID.  You must have your ID to check into your room!

 

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS:  Are you interested in being in ASB for the 2010-2011 school year.  ASB commissioner applications will be given out Wed. at lunch in J-1.  Please come to a quick meeting to get some important information.

 

CHOIR AUDITIONS--If you are interested in being a member of one of the fabulous choirs here at Canyon, you must audition.  Auditions will take place on May 10th, 12th & 13th beginning at 2:15 p.m. in the choir room.  Keep listening to the announcements to find out about audition sign ups which will be at the end of the month.  We are looking for those talented singers who haven't joined choir yet. 

 

CUPCAKES FOR CANCER:  In honor of Prom week, we will be raising money for families who have children with Cancer by selling Cupcakes this Wednesday and Thursday.  Bring $1, buy a cupcake, help a child with Cancer.  ALL money raised through this effort will go directly to the "Cupcakes for Cancer" organization which has raised thousands of dollars for families of children with Cancer.  Let's celebrate Prom week by helping others... one cupcake at a time.

 

CALLING ALL GAMERS!!  Do you enjoy rocking out on Guitar Hero or Rock Band?  Are you a fan of Mario Kart?  Perhaps you like to play Apples to Apples or other board games. Well then you are in luck because Game Day is coming up soon.  Game Day will take place on April 20th after 5th period.  There will also be an awesome bake sale with homemade goodies, soda, water, and much more.  Come to the Band Room (Q6) and see Mrs. Palmer to sign up.  The cost is just $5.00, so don’t miss out on a fun-filled time of game playing..  See you there!

 

DO YOU LOVE TO COOK?  Want to be a chef?  Have you taken Culinary Arts 1 and 2?  Sign up for Advanced Culinary Arts 1 for next semester.  You must have an A or B in Culinary 1 and 2.  See Miss Butler in D3.

 

HEY COWBOYS!!  The student talent rally is right around the corner!  Sign-ups are posted outside the ASB Office now!!!  Be sure to get your talent ready—auditions are April 29 and 30.

 

GET TOUGH—POWDER PUFF!!  It is that time of the year again.  The 2010 Powder Puff Football game will be on May 21!  This activity is only for juniors and seniors.  Pick up an application at the ASB Office.  All applications are due Friday, April 16 at the ASB Office!

 

 

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

NATIONAL COLLEGE FARIS:  Meet with admissions representatives, attend workshops, and check out your options at National College Fairs!  The Greater Los Angeles Fair will take place in Pasadena on Tues., 4/27 and Wed., 4/28 and the Ventura/Tri-County Fair will take place on Thurs., 4/29 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.  Pick up a flyer in the Career Center for a list of participating colleges and universities or go to www.nationalcollegefairs.org for details.

 

EXPLORE YOUR FUTURE AT DISCOVERING CAREERS DAY:  Attend workshops, observe demonstrations and meet with business professionals at Discovering Careers Day on Saturday, April 17 from 9 - 1 at COC.  All students in the SCV and their parents are invited to attend the third annual Discovering Careers Day at COC.  See Colleen Head in the Career Center for details!

 

MEETINGS

OPERATION SMILE---Come to our VERY FIRST meeting, in room F-6 at lunch on Thursday, April 15.  “Changing Lives –One Smile at a Time” A Children’s Medical Charity. 

 

There is a NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MEETING for all members TODAY in room G-105 at lunch.

 

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY meet in C7 at lunch TODAY for Relay for Life meeting.

 

ANIME CLUB will be meeting today in room G-220.

 

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY will hold a meeting this Thursday at lunch in room T4. All members must attend, especially if you are a senior

 

SENIORS

ACADEMIC BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP:  The ABC, which hosts the Academic Banquet each year, is granting several scholarships to seniors for academic achievement here at Canyon High School.  Pick up an application in the Counseling office, and return it to Mrs. Smith by Thursday, May 6, 2010.

 

ENGLISH-LEARNERS ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP:  Seniors who have participated in the EL Program here at Canyon are eligible to apply for this scholarship based on academic achievement.  Pick up an application in the Counseling office, and return it to Mrs. Smith by Thursday, May 6, 2010.

 

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION:  Students must give the counselors 7-10 days advance notice for letters of recommendations.  Make sure you complete a request for a letter of recommendation form before you give your application to your counselor.  (See Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office if you need a form).
