GENERAL

 

CIF GIRLS BASKETBALL GAME will be played at HOME tonight at 7:00 p.m. There is a charge for the basketball games.   Students with student ID cost is $5, Children under the age of 13 the cost is $5.00. Cost for everyone else is $8.  Tickets are on sale in the ASB Office.

 

THE PONY EXPRESS, Canyon's school paper still has a few openings for the Fall semester.  If you like to write, take pictures or enjoy working on computer programs like Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, this may be the class for you.  If interested, please see Mr. Dubin in room B7 at brunch or lunch asap.  

 

OVERCOME, BELIEVE, & ACHIEVE PROGRAM:  The second part of the series will be held on Thursday, 2/25 at 9:00 a.m. in the A Lecture Hall.  Dr. Jaime Castellanos, our superintendent, and Justin Wilson, a Canyon student, will be the speakers.  Pick up a permission slip in the library from

Mrs. Limbaugh.

 

ASB ELECTIONS:  This week is ASB Election Week!!  Come out to the Outdoor Stage Thursday, February 25 at both brunches and lunch to vote!!  All you need is your ID Card! See you there.

 

HART DISTRICT PLANS CADRE—DRUG AWARENESS SEMINAR:  The Wm. S. Hart Union High School District will host a drug awareness seminar for parents and students 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the new theater at Golden Valley High School. The seminar is part of the family education component of the district’s Comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Reduction and Education (CADRE) program.

 

ATTENTION STUDENTS & FACULTY:  The next book for Book Club is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. The book is basically about how the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of one young man and his ability to play video games.  If you would like to read it and join in the discussion, come to the Textbook Center to check it out.  We will read through page 65 for this Friday.  We will meet Friday, 2/26 at lunch in H1.

 

PROM paperwork will be available outside of the ASB office starting today.

KEY CLUB is hosting a movie night on Friday, February 26th at 6 pm in Ms. King's room (G 105).  We will be watching Temple Grandin to raise awareness about No More "R" Word Day.  Key clubbers get hours.  Everyone is welcome!

 

MOCK ACT THIS SATURDAY-- Cowboys- do you even know what the ACT is?  It's a test many colleges accept in place of or with the SAT, and there's a $20 practice ACT this Saturday at 9 in E5 here at Canyon.  If you're interested, sign up at revolutionprep.com or stop by to see Ms. Jones in E5. 

 

ATTENTION STUDENTS & FACULTY:  We have several new books in the library.  Here are some of them:  Raven Summer by David Almond, The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, How to Say Goodbye to a Robot by Natalie Standiford, and Winter's End by Jean-Claude Mourlevat.  Come in and check them out.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

U.S. FOREST SERVICE EXPLORER RECRUITMENT:  Explorer Post 101, sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service, is conducting a post recruit on Saturday, March 6 to students (age 15 - 21) interested in a career with the U.S. Forest Service.  Stop by the Career Center for details.

 

WEST POINT MILITARY ACADEMY VISITATION:  Meet with a representative from West Point Military Academy and learn about the appointment procedure, programs, campus life and more!  The visitation will take place on Thurs., 3/11 at 10:30 in Room H1.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

LA SIERRA UNIVERSITY VISITATION:  A representative from La Sierra University will meet with juniors and seniors on Friday, March 5 at 10:30 in Room H1.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

PSAT SCORES:  PSAT results are in and students may pick up their test scores in the Career Center!

 

CAL DAY:  Students are parents are invited to Cal Day at the University of California, Berkeley on Saturday, April 17 from 9 - 4.  Attend lectures, take a campus tour, visit a lab and more!  Register at Calday.Berkeley.edu or stop by the Career Center for more information.

 

MEETINGS

 

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY MEETING on Thursday,  Feb. 25th in room T4. We are taking the club picture! All members must attend.

 

SENIORS

 

FINANCIAL AID FORMS DEADLINE:  Don’t wait until the last minute!!  Your counselor will need

24 hours to complete the Cal Grant GPA form.  Please consider this when completing your form.  Tuesday, March 2, is the last day to mail your Cal Grant GPA verification form.  Cal Grant forms must be postmarked by March 2, 2010.  FAFSA forms must be submitted online by March 2, 2010.
