GENERAL
CONGRATULATIONS to these OUTSTANDING students who were selected for the Hart District Honor Band: Jennie Banta, Lauren DeFigueiredo, Ryan DeFigueiredo, Christian DeGuzman, Josh Derenski, Kevin Fulleman, Michael Leland, Tempest Lyle, Josh Roberson, Kayla Tomizawa, Timmy Tomizawa and Darren Willett. For their exceptional performance, Josh Roberson and Timmy Tomizawa received the highest scores in their entire sections! Great job!!!
NHS is sponsoring a blood drive on Thursday, February 11th from 7:30-1:30. Pick up information in G-105. Don't be a drip, DONATE BLOOD!
WRITER’S WORKSHOP: Mr. Fannon is running his Writer's Workshop again this semester. If you need help with writing in any of your classes, come see Mr. Fannon for help. Help is available every morning before school from 6:20 to 7am, and at lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
VAL-O-GRAMS: Looking for the perfect gift to give that perfect someone on campus? Then a Val-O-Gram is the way to go! They are only $7 for a flower, balloon, lollipop, card and serenade of LOVE! They are now on sale through February 9th and can be purchased from any choir student. Make this season of love one to remember!
STUDENTS: Interested in winning $500? If so, please participate in the ACSA Region XV High School Student Oratory Contest. The topic of your 3 minute speech is: "Taking a Positive Lead in a Changing World." If you are interested, please see Mrs. Limbaugh ASAP as the district competition will be held on Feb. 8.
ALL GOLFERS must see Mr. Lee this week to pick up athletic release forms, even if you have completed them for another Canyon sport. Please see Mr. Lee in E1 before the team meeting this Thursday.
COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL FUNDRAISER: There is a fundraiser for Compassion International at Baja Fresh Friday, February 5, from 5-10 p.m. Please come and support us and help us get our new club started. Pick up a flyer in U-7, Mrs. Goodwin’s room.
FOOD DRIVE: It is that time for the annual food drive for “Help the Children.” Bring in canned goods to your second period class. The class that brings in the most canned goods wins a prize! Bring in the cans up until February 26. Boxes will be passed out!
KEY CLUB is looking for volunteers to help with the recycling program. If you would like to sign up, please go to Mr. Lee's room, V-1.
ATTENTION STUDENTS: The library is presenting a two part seminar entitled Overcome, Believe & Achieve! We will be hosting Superior Court Judge Freixes on Wednesday, Feb. 17 period 4 and Mr. Castellanos, our superintendent, and our own Justin Wilson on Thursday, Feb. 25 period 3. They will discuss obstacles that they have overcome in their lives to achieve their goals. Pick up permission slips in the library for either one of the days or both.
THE STUDENT TASK FORCE is hosting an essay, art, and video contest to raise awareness about children's rights violations. Please submit all entries to the main office by February 22nd at 9 am.
MEETINGS
COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL CLUB will be having a meeting this Friday, February 5, in room U-7. This meeting is very important! We will be discussing sponsoring a child. New members are always welcome. See you there!
BOYS GOLF MEETING: There is a meeting in room E-1 at lunch TODAY.
BIBLE STUDY: Is meeting in the Choir room TODAY at lunch.
STUDENT TASK FORCE is meeting TODAY at lunch in room G-201.
THERE IS A NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MEETING for current members on February 10th. Members must make valentines either on the 9th or 10th at lunch. Prospective members who receive notification letters and wish to join NHS must attend a meeting on February 9th or 17th. Please come to room G-105 at lunch.
SENIORS
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Students must give the counselors 7-10 days advance notice for letters of recommendations. Make sure you complete a request for a letter of recommendation form before you give your application to your counselor. (See Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office if you need a form).
U.S. FOREST SERVICE CAREER FAIR: Attention Seniors: The U.S. Forest Service will hold a Career Fair on Sat., Feb. 6 from 10 - 4. Learn about employment opportunities such as firefighter, law enforcement, recreation specialists and more! Stop by the Career Center for a flyer.
