GENERAL

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GOLD STAR BRIGADE!   Your Canyon Marching Band received second place and the color guard received fourth place at Hart Rampage on Saturday.  Their hard work and talent have resulted in very high scores this season.  They are currently in second place in their division for all of Southern California!  Great job band!

 

AVID APPLICATIONS--Did you know that not every student who graduates from Canyon is actually eligible to go to a Cal State or UC school?  If you're interested in being one of the students who can immediately attend a 4 year school, stop by and see Ms. Jones in E5 for an application to AVID.  We'll help you succeed in your current classes, prep for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT, and even apply to your dream school.  Applications are due this Friday though, so hurry over! 

 

FREE PIZZA:  Are you a Renaissance Card holder?  Do you want free pizza??  Then bring your Renaissance Card and ID Card to J-1 TODAY to receive your free slice.  Supplies are limited.

 

SOFTBALL TRYOUTS: Are Monday, November 16, Tuesday, November 17 and Wednesday,

November 18 at North Oaks Park.  Time:  2:20 OR if you have a 7th period class –tryouts are immediately after 7th period.  Everyone MUST tryout—even returning players. 

 

SWIM TEAM TRYOUTS!!  Are you a fish out of water??? Then you need to join the Swim Team! Come to the "Tryout" Lunch Meeting on Nov 18th and find out what the Team is all about!  Room T-1. 12:25 LUNCH!!! Contact Coach Himes for any questions or www.hartdistrict.org/canyon/swim

 

MIX IT UP DAY:  Do you want FREE Dip and Dots??  If so, come out to Mix it Up Day on Friday,

November 13 at lunch on the Outdoor Stage.  The winner will receive free Dip n Dots.

 

ATTENTION ALL RENAISSANCE CARD HOLDERS- This is the last week to bring in your permission slips and $40 to go on the Knotts trip.  You need to have everything in by this Friday Nov. 13th!  Get your paperwork outside the ASB office.

 

ATTENTION ALL CANYON DRIVERS- We have 50 spots in the student parking lot available.  If you would like a parking permit pick up the paperwork outside of the ASB office.  You will need proof of current registration and insurance, $20, and the school paperwork.  First come, first served!

 

KEY CLUB:  Hey Key Clubbers, those of you who are going to Fall Rally, pick your shirts up on

Friday in V-1.

 

 

 

BOOK CLUB:  We have just picked our next book: A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby.  Plot:  Four different people find themselves on the same roof on New Year's Eve, but they have one thing in common- they're all there to jump to their deaths.  There is a scandal-plagued talk-show host, a single mom of a disabled young man, a troubled teen, and an aging American musician.  The student cost of the book is $6.00.  If you would like to join us in reading this book, place your order and pay Mrs. Limbaugh in the library by Friday.

 

ASB:  Attention all students interested in applying for Spring semester ASB- Applications will be available starting Monday November 8th outside the ASB office.  All applications are due by Friday November 13th.

 

BOYS’ GOLF TEAM:  All boys interested in the Canyon Boys golf team, there will be a meeting in E1 with Coach Lee TODAY. This includes returning team members and new prospects. See you there!

 

LEAF CLUB AND ACT CLUB will be hosting an all-day Fundraiser TODAY at Ameci’s  on Sierra Highway.  Come out and enjoy some delicious pizza while benefiting LEAF or ACT club.  Please present your school ID and tell the cashier if you will be supporting LEAF or ACT club!  See you there Cowboys!!

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

GROUNDHOG JOB SHADOWING DAY:  Attention juniors and seniors:  Experience the "Real World of Work" on Groundhog Job Shadowing Day, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2.  Shadow a business partner during the morning and attend a luncheon at noon.  Students must provide their own transportation.  Stop by the Career Center to pick up an application.

 

UC IRVINE STAY-OVER PROGRAM:  UC Irvine will host a Stay-Over Program beginning in January, 2010.  Juniors and seniors will have an opportunity stay over for one night and experience both academics as well as campus life while staying in the residence halls.  Stop by the Career Center for details!

 

MEETINGS

 

STUDENT TASK FORCE:  Meets today at lunch in room G-201.

 

BIBLE CLUB:  Meets today in the Choir Room at lunch. 

 

SPORTS

 

FOOTBALL:  Frosh play at Saugus @ 4:00. 

 

SENIORS

 

SENIORS:  Now is the time to start looking at scholarship information.  There are 12 scholarships due in December.  A few of the scholarships only require a 2.5 GPA.  Please take a look at the Canyon website, under scholarships, for more information and links!

 

 

 

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION:  Students must give the counselors 7-10 days advance notice for letters of recommendations.  Make sure you complete a request for a letter of recommendation form before you give your application to your counselor.  (See Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office if you need a form).

 

SENIORS:  You can still order your Cap & Gown, Announcements, and Class Ring.  Jostens will be back on campus for a make-up order on……Wednesday, Nov. 18th---During Brunches ONLY---OUTDOOR STAGE  Ordering information is available in the ASB Office NOW!!!  Be prepared to bring your completed order form and down payment on this day.  DON'T FORGET EVERY SENIOR MUST TURN IN THEIR CAP & GOWN SIZES on this day!   Remember that any Senior ordering their Class Ring on order day will receive their Cap & Gown for FREE!  See your catalog for details. 

 

CLASS RINGS:  If you ordered a class ring and received a card saying it is in, you may pick it up on November 18.
