GENERAL

 

CANYON COWBOYS!!!  There is a HART RALLY on Friday, October 23 at brunch.  Come support your Football Teams and show us your school spirit!!  Everyone will be wearing their class colors ---so wear yours!!  Seniors wear black, Juniors white, Sophomores yellow, and Freshman green.  We hope to see you all there!!!! 

 

ARE YOU HUNGRY?  Want to purchase breakfast or lunch in Food Service?  Effective immediately all students are required to have their ID cards in order to purchase food in the cafeteria.   If you do not have your ID card then you must go to Register # 1 where you can only purchase a limited selection of items. 

 

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS!  Sign ups for Olvera Street are this Friday, October 23rd, in room D-1. Bring your permission slips and your money!

 

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY is going to Olvera Street to celebrate El Dia de los Muertos!  If you plan to go, bring your permission slip and payment to D-1 at lunch this Friday, October 23.  Don't miss out!

 

ROP CLASSES STARTING JAN. 2010:  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN TAKING AN R.O.P. CLASS STARTING NEXT SEMESTER, YOU MUST SEE MRS. OKRONICK IN THE R.O.P. OFFICE STARTING Monday OCT. 12, 2009

 

HEALTH OFFICE:  When you are ill, you must get a pass from your teacher to come up to the Health Office.  It is there that contact will be made with your parents/guardians to arrange for you to go home.  Do not call or text your parents or guardians from the classroom expecting to be summoned to the Health Office. 

 

INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL sign ups are taking place in C-5. Get your team together and sign up in C-5 ASAP!

 

ATTENTION STUDENTS: Are you interested in participating in Make a Difference Day on

Sat., Oct 24, 2009?  Please stop by the office and pick up application in the Administrative Office.  This event is a community service project sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita and HandsOn Santa Clarita.  You may also see Mr. Getz for more details.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY OPEN HOUSE:  Take a campus tour, join discussions with faculty and get an inside look  at Loyola Marymount University on Sunday, October 25 from 11: - 4:30.  Stop by the Career Center for details!

OPEN HOUSE AT MOUNT ST. MARY’S COLLEGE:  Mount St. Mary's College will hold two open houses during November.  Stop by the Career Center for details!

 

HARVEY MUDD COLLEGE VISITATION:  Meet with a representative from Harvey Mudd College on Monday, November 2 at 10:30 in Room H1.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

MEETINGS

ANIME CLUB will be meeting TODAY in room G-220.

 

NHS: There will be an NHS meeting TODAY at lunch in G-105.

 

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY meets at lunch in C7 TODAY.

 

CHECKMATES CHESS AND BOARD GAME CLUB meeting Wednesday and Fridays in G117.  Bring your lunch.  Chess lessons are available.

 

BOOK CLUB:  We are reading through Chapter 16 for Friday.  We will meet in H1 during lunch.  See you there.

 

SENIORS

SENIORS:  Need help paying for college?  The Counseling Dept. is hosting an informational Financial Aid Workshop for parents TONIGHT at 7pm in Canyon's Library. The workshop will explain grants, loans and demystify the FAFSA. 

 

SAT PREP CLASS-- Guess what stressed-out seniors?  There are just 2 SATs left to take for college applications!  Revolution Prep offers classes right here on Canyon's campus and cost less than half of the other big companies.  They even offer scholarships if you know you can't afford the class!  Classes start this Saturday, 10-24, so sign up today at revolutionprep.com or stop by to see Ms. Jones in E5. 

 

SCHOLARSHIPS:  Coca Cola is giving out $10,000 and $20,000 scholarships.  If you had a 3.0 at the end of your senior year you are eligible.  The deadline to apply is October 31st.

 

ARE YOU SKILLED AT WRITING ESSAYS?  The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education is giving out $5,000 scholarships for the best essays discussing the topic of free speech on campus.  The deadline is the 6th of November.

 

DO YOU HAVE A LOT OF VOLUNTEER AND SERVICE HOURS?  Metro PCS is giving out $2,500 scholarships.  The deadline to apply is November 25.
