GENERAL
HEY COWBOYS: Looking for something fun to do this Halloween season? What about the Heritage Haunt at Hart Park? There's a crazy clown maze, an entire haunted village, hay rides, and even a pirate ship! It only runs on a few nights, so speak to any AVID student or Ms. Jones in E5 about buying tickets for just $8 each. Hurry- you don't want to miss out on the Halloween fun!
OPERATION US: Our first presentation is coming up! We will be meeting on Tuesday October 13th in E3 at the beginning of lunch to distribute permission slips and assign roles for the presentation. All Operation US members need to attend. See you Tuesday in E3!
LETTERMAN’S JACKETS: Are you still interested in ordering a letterman's jacket for all those academic, sport and other participation awards you've received from Canyon? Balfour will be fitting cheerleaders, dancers and color guard at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 10/13 down on the football field. All others are invited!! See Ms. Soto for a pre-order form.
ATTENTION SPEECH AND DEBATERS!! We are taking T-Shirt orders for the new design
2009/2010 shirt. Please bring $18.00 to the library to place your order with Mrs. Limbaugh. Orders are due by Tuesday, Oct. 13. Remember to provide the needed information for the order: Your last name and the number you wish to have on the back of your shirt.

Night before the test
Make sure you get a restful night of sleep
Day of test
Have a good breakfast
Wear comfortable clothing (You will be sitting in the same seat for 4 to 5 hours)
Bring:
Two #2 pencils and a good eraser
Approved calculator (scientific or graphic calculator is recommended)
No cell phone calculators, PDA’s, computers or any other type of hand held electronic device will be allowed.
Optional - Social Security number and/or Email address
No students will be excused early and only drinks in clear containers with no labels will be allowed in the testing room.

SAVING LIVES - One Student at a Time. Canyon High School Library, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Canyon High School will host a CADRE Program parent/student drug awareness seminar on October 22, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Canyon High School Cafeteria. Detective Tom Lorenz will be the keynote speaker for this important seminar. Attendees will receive information regarding student drug use and abuse in our community; descriptions of how the CADRE program works for parents and students and financial support services available to students and families affected by drug and alcohol use. There will be a drawing for free Magic Mountain tickets for the first 100 participants and if students and parents sign-up for the CADRE program on the night of the event, their names will be placed into the Grand Prize drawing for a Free IPOD to be given away at the end of the school year.
GRB ENTERTAINMENT AND BIZZY BLONDES ENTERTAINMENT are currently casting a new television project for MTV and are looking for high school or college students who have NEVER HAD A CAR! * Must live in the Los Angeles area. * Must have a great personality. * Must have a special reason for wanting a car. (Perhaps you have an event coming up where you would like to show off your new wheels, for example: homecoming, prom, special date, football game etc. * Must be deserving of a new ride. (For example: you worked really hard all summer, but couldn’t save enough to buy a car; you got great grades last semester, your parents’ mini-van isn’t helping you make friends, etc.) Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance to be considered. CHOIR CABARET CONCERT: Hey, all you Cowboys and Cowgirls!! Saddle up and ride on over to our choirs Olde West Revue on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16 at La Mesa Jr. High School. Time is 7:30 p.m. Come enjoy a night celebrating our true western roots. YEEHAW!!!!!!
ATTENTION STUDENTS: Celebrate Teen Read Week's theme of Read Beyond Reality by coming to hear fantasy author Eldon Thomspon speak about his writing and scriptwriting on Tuesday, October 20 during 4th period. Pick up a permission slip in the library.
ATTENTION STUDENTS: Are you interested in participating in Make a Difference Day on Sat., Oct 24, 2009? Please stop by the office and pick up application in the Administrative Office. This event is a community service project sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita and Hands On Santa Clarita. You may also see Mr. Getz for more details.
CHOIR FUNDRAISERS: Come to Baja Fresh and Cold Stone (both on Soledad Canyon Road) on Wednesday, October 14, and support the Canyon Choirs. Time 5-10 p.m.
CAREER CENTER NEWS
MOUNT ST. MARY’S VISITATION: A representative from Mount St. Mary's College will meet with students on Tuesday, October 13 at 10:30 in the Career Center. Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.
MEETINGS
FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES: Our first meeting is Tuesday at lunch in room V-3.
SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY MEETING this Thursday, the 15th, during lunch. Have your dues and paperwork ready to turn in! Also, we are having an all-day fundraiser at Amecis Pizza on the 15th. This is open to everyone; bring your I.D. cards and support Spanish Honor Society! Gracias!
SENIORS
SCHOLARSHIPS: Coca Cola is giving out $10,000 and $20,000 scholarships. If you had a 3.0 at the end of your senior year you are eligible. The deadline to apply is October 31st.
Are you skilled at writing essays? The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education is giving out $5,000 scholarships for the best essays discussing the topic of free speech on campus. The deadline is the 6th of November.
Do you have a lot of volunteer and service hours? Metro PCS is giving out $2,500 scholarships. The deadline to apply is November 25.
