GENERAL

 

HOMECOMING WEEK:  Are you ready for Homecoming week?  Are you ready to get crazy?   Thursday is Superhero day and Friday is White Tee Day!  Don’t be afraid to show your school spirit and let’s make this the best week ever!  And remember costumes are NOT mandatory for the dance.

 

ATTENTION STUDENTS AND FACULTY:  Book Club has chosen its next book:  Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.  Nitta Sayuri, a young Japanese woman who was taken from her home at the age of nine and sold into slavery as a geisha, discovers a rare opportunity for freedom when the outbreak of World War II forces an end to the only life she has ever known. If you would like to join in on this discussion, order a book from Mrs. Limbaugh in the library by Thursday, Oct. 8.  The cost of the book will be $3.50 and must be paid with your order.  

 

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS:  Make sure to check the tutoring schedule posted outside of Mrs. Santos' room(D-4)  ASAP so you don't forget the dates you signed up for!

 

ATTENTION STUDENTS:  Celebrate Teen Read Week's theme of Read Beyond Reality by coming to hear fantasy author Eldon Thomspon speak about his writing and scriptwriting on Tuesday, October 20 during 4th period.  Pick up a permission slip in the library.

 

CANYON FOOTBALL GAMES:  Hey COWBOYS!! Here are a few reminders to students -- once you enter the football game and leave YOU MAY NOT RE-ENTER.  If you need a sweater, blanket, etc., remember to bring it in with you when you arrive.  SKATEBOARDS AND SCOOTERS ARE NOT ALLOWED in the stadium or parking lot—DO NOT BRING THEM WITH YOU!!  Since this is a school-sponsored event, the Canyon High School DRESS CODE will be strictly enforced.  ANY inappropriate attire (clothing, accessories, or headgear) will result in entrance refusal and possible removal if non-compliant.  Body paint and noise makers are also not allowed.  Thank you for your co-operation. 

 

CHOIR CABARET CONCERT:  Hey, all you Cowboys and Cowgirls!!  Saddle up and ride on over to our choirs Olde West  Revue on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16 at La Mesa Jr. High School.  Time is 7:30 p.m.  Come enjoy a night celebrating our true western roots.  YEEHAW!!!!!!

 

DO YOU LOVE TO RIDE HORSES?  Are you a true Cowboy at heart?  Do you know what an "equestrian" is?  If so, come to our informational meeting TODAY at lunchtime in H1 to get all the information on Canyon's Equestrian Club and meet our great new advisor!!!

 

HOMECOMING:  Are you ready for “A Heroic Night?”  Then come to the Homecoming Dance on October 10.  Tickets are now on sale!  $15 with an ASB Card, $17 without and $20 at the door.  We hope to see you all there!!

 

CADRE DRUG AWARENESS SEMINAR:  The abbreviation CADRE stands for “Comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Reduction Education Program” Their motto is “Saving Lives One Student at a Time”

Hart High School will host a CADRE Program parent/student drug awareness seminar on October 8, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Hart High School Cafeteria. Detective Tom Lorenz will be the keynote speaker for this important seminar. Attendees will receive information regarding student drug use and abuse in our community; descriptions of how the CADRE program works for parents and students and financial support services available to students and families affected by drug and alcohol use.

There will be a drawing for free Magic Mountain tickets for the first 100 participants and if students and parents sign-up for the CADRE program on the night of the event, their names will be placed into the Grand Prize drawing for a Free IPOD to be given away at the end of the school year.

We look forward to seeing parents and students at this important event.

 

MEETINGS

 

NAHS MEETING TODAY in T-4 at lunch. All members must attend.

 

ANIME club will be meeting today in room G-220.

 

Checkmates Chess and Board Game Club meeting Wednesday and Fridays in G117.  Bring your lunch.  Chess lessons are available.

 

 

SENIORS

 

SENIORS:  SCHOLARSHIPS:  Coca Cola is giving out $10,000 and $20,000 scholarships.  If you had a 3.0 at the end of your senior year you are eligible.  The deadline to apply is October 31st.

 

Are you skilled at writing essays?  The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education is giving out $5,000 scholarships for the best essays discussing the topic of free speech on campus.  The deadline is the 6th of November.

 

Do you have a lot of volunteer and service hours?  Metro PCS is giving out $2,500 scholarships.  The deadline to apply is November 25.
