Math tutoring with Mrs. Denny is canceled TODAY due to the minimum day schedule.  See you on October 1st from 3 - 4 p.m.  Don't forget about the other math tutoring sessions available before school and during lunch.

 

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY, SHH MEMBERS!  ¡Atención!  ¡Atención! Spanish Honor Society members remember the sign-up day for ELD tutoring is tomorrow at lunch in U3.  Remember is tomorrow only!  ¡Hasta pronto!

 

All Canyon students are reminded that when we have minimum day, they may NOT visit other campuses, including Sierra Vista.  Other schools are in full day session and it is a trespassing violation to be on their campus while their school is in session.  Avoid disciplinary action and a trespassing ticket!  Do not visit other schools when Canyon has a minimum day!

 

FORMER MAYOR BOB KELLER to visit Canyon High School:  On Thursday, October 1st, at lunch in H-1, former mayor of Santa Clarita and current City Council member Bob Keller will visit with students and answer their questions concerning local politics.  This visit is sponsored by The Young Politicians Club here at Canyon and is open to all students.  An initial planning meeting will be held today during brunch in room A-6.  If you'd like to help with the planning of this visit, please plan to attend tomorrow at brunch.

 

CANYON FOOTBALL GAMES:  Hey COWBOYS!!  Our first home football game is this Friday night, September 25.  Here are a few reminders to students -- once you enter the football game and leave YOU MAY NOT RE-ENTER.  If you need a sweater, blanket, etc., remember to bring it in with you when you arrive.  SKATEBOARDS AND SCOOTERS ARE NOT ALLOWED in the stadium or parking lot—DO NOT BRING THEM WITH YOU!!  Since this is a school-sponsored event, the Canyon High School DRESS CODE will be strictly enforced.  ANY inappropriate attire (clothing, accessories, or headgear) will result in entrance refusal and possible removal if non-compliant.  Body paint and noise makers are also not allowed.  Thank you for your co-operation. 

HOMECOMING:  Are you ready for “A Heroic Night?”  Then come to the Homecoming Dance on October 10.  Tickets are now on sale!  $15 with an ASB Card, $17 without and $20 at the door.  We hope to see you all there!!

 

BLOOD DRIVE.  Our first blood drive will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1st.  Stop by room G-105 to pick up information and a permission slip.  Let's save a life Cowboys!

 

NEW TO THE LIBRARY:  Starting today the library will be playing our new Trivia quiz on the TVs in the reference section.  Come in and check it out.  It will change regularly and sometimes we will be running Trivia contests.

 

FOOTBALL GAME FRIDAY:  Are you ready to see your Cowboys in action?  Then come out to the first home football game on the 25th.  Show your school some support and wear your Canyon colors!!

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

DARTMOUTH INFORMATION MEETING:  Dartmouth College will hold the following information meetings in the Los Angeles area:  Wed., Sept. 30 at Marymount High School in Los Angeles at 7:00 p.m. and Thurs., Oct. 1 at Westridge School for Girls in Pasadena at 7:00 p.m.  You may RSVP at http://inyourcity.dartmouth.edu/infosessions/ or stop by the Career Center for additional information.

 

UC MERCED PREVIEW DAY:  Prospective students and their families are invited to attend a Preview Day at UC Merced on Sat., Oct. 17 from 10 - 3.  Students will have an opportunity to attend academic presentations, take a campus tour, attend workshops and more!  Stop by the Career Center for additional information or go to www.admissions.ucmerced.edu/preview-day.

 

UCLA VISITATION:  An admissions representative from UCLA will meet with juniors and seniors on Wed., 10/7 at 9:20 in Room H1.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY INFORMATION SESSIONS:  NYU will host information sessions in Pasadena (9/26) and Santa Monica (9/27).  Students and their parents are invited to the reception.  Information such as academics, admissions, financial aid and student life will be discussed.  Stop by the Career Center for registration information.

 

MIT INFORMATION SESSION:  Are you interested in learning about Massachusetts Institute of Technology?  Parents and students are invited to meet with admissions representatives from MIT on Tues., 9/29 in Santa Monica or Saturday, September 26 in Long Beach.  Stop by the Career Center for details.

 

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY:  Explore Colorado State University on Fri., Sept. 25.  Admissions representatives will discuss campus life, majors and financial aid.  The meeting will take place in the Career Center at 9:20.  Stop by the Career Center to pick up a permission slip.

 

FIDM VISITATION:  Meet with a representative from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising on Tues., 10/6 at 11:25 in Room H1 and learn about programs in fashion design and merchandising, graphic design, interior design and more!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

DISCOVER DUKE PROGRAM:  Meet with an admissions representative from Duke University and learn about programs, financial aid and campus life at Duke.  The meeting will take place on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 3:00 at the Pasadena Hilton.  Register at www.admissions.duke.edu or stop by the Career Center for details.

SENIORS- If you missed the lunch informational meeting hosted by the counselors on Scholarships & Financial Aid, stop by the Counseling Office for a paper copy of the presentation.

 

SAT PREP CLASS: Attention seniors-- you have less than 80 days until many college applications are due and there's a limited amount of SATs left.  Revolution Prep offers classes right here on Canyon's campus and cost less than half of the other big companies.  Classes start Saturday, 9-26, so sign up today at revolutionprep.com or stop by to see Ms. Jones in E5.
