GENERAL

 

HEALTH OFFICE:  When you are ill, you must get a pass from your teacher to come up to the Health Office.  It is there that contact will be made with your parents/guardians to arrange for you to go home.  Do not call or text your parents or guardians from the classroom expecting to be summoned to the Health Office. 

 

SCHOOL PICTURES ARE HERE!  School Pictures can be picked up during brunch and lunch in the ASB classroom.

 

If you were a friend of Nick Pruett, a Canyon student who passed away last year, please come to the counseling office during lunch today and sign a yearbook in his memory. Nick's father has asked that we help him with this special keepsake. The yearbook will be available in Mrs. Smith's office lunch and afterschool. Please stop by.

 

THE DISTRICT 1 COLLEGE FAIR EXTRAORDINAIRE will take place on Saturday, September 12 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm on the Pierce College Campus. Students and parents will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from over 100 universities. There will also be several workshops concerning financial aid, SAT and ACT preparation, UC and CSU admissions advice, and information for immigrant students. There will also be a free barbecue. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

 

CLASS RING ORDER:   

JUNIORS!  It’s time for your class to order their class rings.  Your class ring will rank high in the commemoratives of your “2011” Graduation.   Order now and receive your ring this Fall.

PICTURE MAKE UP DAY will be on September 25th in H-1

 

TARDY LOCKOUT:  Students that go through Tardy Lockout without their ID will get an automatic lunch detention.  Students leaving campus at lunch time without an ID will also get a lunch detention.

 

PRACTICE SAT ON SEPT 19TH-- Seniors!  Are you stressing about the SATs?  Before you take the real test, take a practice test with Ms. Jones in E5 on Sept 19th.  The test will run from 9 am to 1 pm and be held in E5.  This is NOT the PSAT; it's just a practice test that will help you prep for the real thing.  All Canyon students are welcome! 

 

WIFFLE BALL sign ups are taking place right now in room C-5.  Teams can include 4 members. All players welcome... co-ed teams, teacher teams, bring your friends to C-5 at both brunches and lunch and sign up.  Wiffle Ball is so easy Mr. Motherspaw could play. 

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

UCLA PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS INFORMATION EVENT:  Learn about the variety of performing and visual arts majors at UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 11.  Presentations include department descriptions, application process, portfolio/audition requirements and more!  Students may register at www.arts.ucla.edu/rsvp.  Stop by the Career Center for a list of departments that will participate.

 

U.S. MARINES VISITATION:  Are you interested in joining the Marines?  Meet with a recruiter from the U.S. Marines during lunch on Wednesday, 9/16 on the outdoor stage and learn about career opportunities. 

 

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY:  Explore Colorado State University on Fri., Sept. 25.  Admissions representatives will discuss campus life, majors and financial aid.  The meeting will take place in the Career Center at 9:20.  Stop by the Career Center to pick up a permission slip.

 

PSAT STUDY GUIDES:  Attention sophomores and juniors:  Did you register to take the PSAT, which will take place on October 14?  PSAT Study guides are available for students who signed up!  Be sure to stop by the Counseling Office or Career Center to pick up a copy.

 

OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY VISITATION:  Would you like to learn about programs offered at Oregon State University?  Meet with an admissions representative on Wednesday, September 23 at 8:15 in the Career Center and learn about campus life at Oregon State!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

MEETINGS

 

BOOK CLUB:  The Book Club will be meeting on Friday during lunch in H1.  This week we will finish our discussion on The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.  We will choose the next book for discussion.  Everyone is welcome.  Bring your lunch and come on down!

 

DO YOU WANT TO HELP AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? Then come to C7 at lunch Wed. Sept. 16 to find out about joining American Cancer Society. We would love your support! Former members need to come as well.

 

CHECKMATES CHESS AND BOARD GAME CLUB meeting Wednesday and Fridays in G117.  Bring your lunch.  Chess lessons are available.

 

HEY KEY CLUBBERS:  There is a make-up meeting on September 11.  If you want to be on the Executive Board, go to V-1 on Sept. 18.  All new and old members need a registration sheet.

 

INTERESTED IN HUMAN RIGHTS??  Want to learn more about genocide, child soldiers,and juvenile justice?  Come to the Student Task Force Meeting, TODAY at lunch in room G-201. 

 

YOUNG POLITICIANS:  Canyon High School's Young Politicians will meet today at lunch in Room A-6.  Please bring your lunch and plan to engage in a stimulating discussion of some of the nation's the day's most controversial events and proposals.  Everyone is welcome!
