GENERAL
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS & FACULTY: The library will be closed through lunch (including lunch) on Wednesday, May 6 due to AP Testing. Teachers, please do not send students to the library at those times. Thank you.
CSF MEMBERSHIP cards for this semester are available in C8-- AT LUNCH ONLY--today (Wednesday). Please check the lists posted outside to be sure that you have qualified for membership. Members are reminded not to enter C8 at brunch or between classes. The club is also seeking applicants for six officer positions for next year. Applications can be completed when you pick up your membership card.
POWDERPUFF JUNIORS: There will be a mandatory meeting for all Junior, Powder-puff players TODAY at lunch in the ASB room, J-1.
CHOIR: -Come out to La Mesa Junior High tomorrow night and hear the choirs present their annual spring concert. Love and the Seasons is the theme. You won't want to miss this beautiful concert. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and costs $6.00 or $5.00 with an ASB card.
ATTENTION ALL GIRLS SOCCER TEAMS: See Mrs. Haro in the AP Office to pick up your Soccer certificates.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: There is a meeting in room B-4 TODAY at lunch for anyone interested in playing on the JV and Varsity girls’ volleyball team next year.
CHOIR FUNDRAISER: Come to Jersey Mike’s, in the Canyon Country Library shopping center, today from 5 to 8 p.m., to help support our Choir.
ATTENTION CLASS OF 2010- yes that’s you juniors! Are you interested in a personalized parking spot for your senior year? If you are come by the ASB office and pick up your application outside the office. There are some simple requirements this year so pick up your application early! Only 75 spots will be personalized and its first come first serve. Start your senior year off right!
HAVE YOU SEEN CANYON’S AMAZING COLOR GUARD? Well, it's time for auditions for next year. Auditions will be from May 11th to May 15th from 3:30-5 and May 19th from 3:30-6 in the band room. Come see Mrs. Palmer in Q-6 (Band Room) if you have any questions. No experience necessary. See you there!
CAREER CENTER NEWS
COC JOB AND CAREER FAIR: COC will host a Job and Career Fair on Wednesday, May 6 at their Valencia campus and Wednesday, May 13 at the Canyon Country campus. The fairs will take place from
11 - 2 and flyers are available in the Career Center.
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY INFORMATION SESSION: Meet with an admissions representative from Northwestern University on Sat., May 16 at 11 at the L.A. Marriott Downtown, Los Angeles. Learn about the admission procedure, programs and financial aid. Stop by the Career Center for registration information.
MEETINGS
THE YOUNG REPUBLICANS, Canyon High School's only politically action club, will meet tomorrow, Thursday at lunch in room A-6. On the schedule is a formal debate dealing with the 2nd Amendment. The Young Republicans welcome open dialogue and intelligent discussion of real-life issues and concerns. Everyone is welcome to attend.
THE ANIME club is meeting in G-220 at lunch...see you there!

SENIORS
ANY SENIOR wishing to audition for Senior Speaker for Graduation should sign up in Assistant Principals Office and pick up a speech/audition information sheet. Please do this as soon as possible. Auditions sign-ups will end on May 15. Auditions are on the morning of May 20.

DON JERRY FUTURE TEACHERS SCHOLARSHIP: The Jerry family is proud to award a $2,000 scholarship to a Canyon senior who will attend a 2 or 4-year college, has a GPA of 2.5 or higher and plans to become a teacher. Applications available in the counseling office. Deadline is May 8, 2009.
THE BRIAN K. JERRY MEMORIAL “GOOD KID” AWARD: The Jerry family would also like to award $2,000 to a Canyon senior boy or girl with a 2.0-3.0 GPA, a varsity letter winner, well liked by peers, have a strong affection for Canyon, and will attend a 2 or 4 year college. Applications available in the counseling office. Deadline May 8, 2009.
ALAN SCHAEFFER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: This memorial scholarship honors a wonderful and dedicated math teacher who taught at Canyon for many years. Seniors who intend to become a teacher, attend college in the fall, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher are encouraged to get an application for this $250 scholarship from the counseling office. Deadline is May 12, 2009.
UCLA LATINO ALUMNI ASSOCAITION SCHOLARSHIP: Any Latino student attending UCLA full-time in the fall may be eligible for this scholarship. The grants are awarded based on: scholastic excellence, extra-curricular activities, volunteer service, service to present school, and financial need. An application, 2 essays, 2 recommendations, and other forms are needed. Visit the counseling office for an application. Must be postmarked by May 30, 2009.
