GENERAL

SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRESS REPORTS:  If you would like to receive a supplemental progress report, please see Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office between 7:30am and 8:00am Friday morning to pick one up.  If you have a 7:00am class, you may pick one up Thursday after your last class.

 

STUDENT TALENT RALLY:  Got Talent???  Are you interested in performing in Canyon’s student talent rally--it is May 22.  If you are interested, come to the ASB Office to sign up.  The Sign –Up sheet will be posted starting next week.  Don’t hold back that hidden talent. 

 

PROM TICKETS ON SALE: ALL upperclassmen can now purchase Prom Tickets.  Cost: $200 per couple with ASB card and $210 per couple without ASB card.  The price goes up on April 21.

 

THE JUNIOR VARSITY IMPROV TEAM will be performing a free show during lunch TODAY in the   Q-Theatre.  Grab your food and get ready for 45 minutes of comedy! Seats are first come first serve.

 

GOLD STAR BRIGADE FUNDRAISER:  Monday, April 20 from 5-9 p.m. at Vincenzo’s Pizza, 20701 Plum Cyn Rd, Saugus.  The Jazz band will play from 6-7 p.m.

 

NEW BOOKS! NEW BOOKS! - Come and check out the new books in the library.  The Last Knight by Hilari Bell, A Taste for Rabbit by Linda Zuckerman, I'll Pass for Your Comrade Women Soldiers in the Civil War by Anita Silvey, and Eon Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman.

 

ATTENTION JUNIOR POWDER PUFF PLAYERS!  Make sure to see Mrs. Seidenkranz in D-2 before Tuesday, April 21st.  Shirts are being ordered and we need your size!

 

CHOIR AUDITIONS:  If you would like to be a member of one of Canyon's awesome choirs next year, you will need to audition.  The auditions will be in the afternoons of STAR testing next week.  Please come to the choir room today and sign up for an audition.   Don't let this great experience pass you by.

 

PRACTICE ACT-- Listen up sophomores and juniors- do you need to take the ACT?  Guess what?  Revolution Prep is offering a practice ACT right here on campus this Saturday at 9:00 in E5.  The best part is that it's only 20 dollars!  If you're interested, stop by E5 to see Ms. Jones or visit revolutionprep.com.  Act quickly because spaces are limited! 

 

AWARDS BANQUET COMING SOON!  If you earned a 3.5 or higher grade point average for Fall Semester 2008, you should have received an invitation to the Spring Academic Awards Banquet to be held on Thursday, April 30.  Deadline to turn in RSVP to Mrs. Nelson and purchase dinner tickets from ASB is FRIDAY, APRIL 17.  No tickets will be sold at the door.  Please contact Mrs. Pam Thompson in the AP Office if you have any questions.

CAREERS IN PUBLISHING: Learn about careers in publishing at Discovering Careers Day on Saturday, April 26 at COC.  Mr. Smith will describe career opportunities in the publishing field!  Stop by the Career Center for a flyer!

 

UCLA SUMMER PROGRAMS:  Challenge yourself at UCLA's Summer Experience!  Attend classes such as Acting, Design, Green Business, Mock Trial, Stem Cell Science and more!  Stop by the Career Center for details.

 

EXPLORING COLLEGES INFORMATION SESSION:  Are you interested in learning about Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn or Stanford?  Attend a student/parent session to learn about programs, admissions and more!  The meetings are scheduled for Sunday, April 26 in Los Angeles and Monday, April 27 in Woodland Hills.  Stop by the Career Center for registration information.

SENIORS

CSF—SENIORS:  TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO TURN IN YOUR APPLICATIONS: The Seal Bearer list has been posted outside C-8.  If you want to apply for one of the scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000, pick up a scholarship application in C-8. 

 

SENIORS:  Planning to attend CSUN this fall?  You MUST electronically submit an "Intent to Register" online at www.csun.edu no later than 5PM on June 15th.  Counseling office has more details on how to file and also about the English Placement Test & Entry Level Math test.

 

THE CANYON ACADEMIC BOOSTER CLUB is awarding scholarships to Canyon Seniors who plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college, and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  Note, your parents must be members of the Academic Booster Club to be considered.  Extracurricular activities and community service involvement will be evaluated.  Please pick up this one-page application from the Counseling office, due to be returned by May 1, 2009.

 

WERE YOU EVER PART OF THE English Language Development (ELD) Program here at Canyon?  THE CANYON ACADEMIC BOOSTER CLUB is awarding scholarships to Canyon Seniors who learned English as a Second Language here in the ELD program, plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Please pick up this one-page application from the Counseling office, due to be returned by May 1, 2009.
