GENERAL
THE ASVAB (ARMED SERVICES VOCATIONAL APTITUDE BATTERY) will be administered to juniors and seniors on Wed., 3/11 in B Lecture Hall at 8:00. The ASVAB is a three-hour exam that measures eight aptitudes and the results can assist students with college and career decisions. Students may sign-up in the Career Center.
APPLICATIONS FOR CLASS OFFICER ELECTIONS are due TODAY at 1PM in the ASB office, not 3pm as stated on the application. Please have all election materials in by 1PM, NO LATER!!!
Please be sure character evaluations are returned by teachers to ASB as soon as possible.
ATTENTION STUDENTS & STAFF: The Book Fair is coming next week, March 9-13. It will be held in H1 and open during both brunches and lunch. It will be open during Open House on March 12. Come and buy some books!
BOOK CLUB: We will be reading Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man. If you would like to join us and read the book, come to the library to order a copy of the book. Those already in book club need to come to the library to pick up your copy. We will read to page 97 for March 13.
CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB: Checkmates Chess Club and other board games will meet every Wednesday and Friday in room G-117. If you do not know how to play chess, we will teach you. Bring you lunch and enjoy the competition. Any questions, please see Mr. Clark in room G-117
ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS: AP Exam registration started March 2 and will run through March 13, 1:00 PM. Students may register before school, brunch or during lunch in the ASB office. The fee for each test is $86, unless the student participates in the free or reduced lunch program. Students can see Mrs. Haro in the AP office to learn about this program. Don't forget to sign up!!!
KEY CLUB DANCE: Hey Key Clubbers! There is a Masquerade Ball on Saturday, March 7. Hours will be given to those who attend this dance. Please go to room V-1 for more information.
KEY CLUB EVENT: Hey Key Clubbers! The Hunger Defense Fund is having a food drive at local grocery stores tomorrow. Please go to room V-1 for more information.
POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL: Hey Cowboys—Canyon is having a Powder Puff Football game for all Junior and senior girls. Come out and be tough and play some football. And guys—show us your hidden Cheerleading talent! Start picking up your applications March 9 outside the ASB Office---don’t forget they are due March 27!!!!
LETTERMAN JACKET SIZING: Wednesday, March 11th, Bruches only on the outdoor stage.
RENAISSANCE CARD HOLDERS: Your Disneyland trip is March 20, the cost is $70 and you can pick up trip slips outside the ASB office. The first 108 students to turn in their paperwork and money will go.

THE ART INSTITUTE VISITATION: A representative from The Art Institute, located in Santa Monica, will meet with students on Monday, March 9 at 10:25 in the Library. Learn about programs in animation, culinary arts, digital video/audio production, game design and programming, interior design and more! Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY: Attention Spanish Honor Society members! You must attend our mandatory meeting Tuesday at lunch in D2. We have lots of information to share with you! ¡Hasta pronto muchachos!
SENIORS
*SENIORS: The Stan Chambers Journalism Award: KTLA is presenting a competition for $1,000 scholarship for seniors. Students must submit a 150 word essay about “What Matters Most” in their lives. More information is available in the counseling office on the scholarship board. Deadline is
March 19, 2009.
*SENIORS: If you are a Catholic graduating senior of Italian decent, you may be eligible for a scholarship. The Italian Catholic Federation is offering $400 scholarships for students who meet the above criteria and have a minimum 3.2 grade point average. Visit the counseling office’s scholarship board or www.icf.org for more information and an application, which must be postmarked by
March 15, 2009.
*SENIORS: The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is once again conducting a nation-wide search for the best and brightest Hispanic/Latino leaders. Students can be awarded $1,000-$3,000, laptops, and a trip to Washington, DC. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Application is available at www.hispanicheritage.org. Deadline is March 14, 2009.
*AFRICAN-AMERICAN FUTURE ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP: Ronald McDonald House Charities will award $1,000 scholarships to African-American high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership, character, community service and a commitment to academics. Visit the counseling office's scholarship board for an application, which must be but be postmarked by March 15, 2009.
*RONALD McDONALD HOUSE presents a $1000 scholarship to seniors who have at least one parent of Asian Pacific heritage and are planning to attend a two or four-year college. Applicants will be judged on a personal statement about their Hispanic background, community involvement, career goals, and desire to contribute to their community. A letter of recommendation and official transcript is required. Applications available in the counseling office. Deadline: March 15, 2009
