GENERAL

BOYS’S SOCCER PLAYOFF GAME:  Today we play Lynwood High School here at Canyon at 3:00 on the football field….Come out and support our Boys!!!!!!

 

ATTENTION!!  The library will be closed from 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday due to Math testing taking place in the library.  If you have an open period during that time, you will not be allowed in the library during that time.  The library will not be open during first brunch.

 

MOCK SAT-- Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen- listen up!  On Saturday Feb 28th, the AVID program will sponsor a $20 mock SAT exam.  This is a great way for you to take the SAT for a test drive, and for less than a third of the price of the actual test!  You must sign up online though, so visit revolutionprep.com or see Ms. Jones in E5 for more information.  Don't delay- spaces are limited! 

 

2010 YEARBOOK STAFF: Yearbook is more than "taking pictures," to be honest its hard work, and you don't even get paid! BUT... if you're still interested and you're a hard working Junior or Sophomore who is up to the challenge, then get an application from T2 or the Counseling office. Submit your applications to Mr. McCann or a current yearbook staff member by the end of March.

 

KEY CLUB:  Hey Key Clubbers!!  If you would like to volunteer at the NEW LEASH ON LIFE animal shelter, then please attend a mandatory orientation Saturday, February 21.  Go to room V-1 for more information.

 

 

 

Do you need to re-take Chemistry A to replace a previous D or F grade? If so, Math Support Services in Santa Clarita is enrolling students for a class starting February 23rd.  Call them at 255-1730 for information.

 

Are you intrigued about the creative worlds of FASHION and Business? FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) is offering a 3-day summer program at its 4 campuses in CA.  Check it out at www.fidm.edu/summer program. Also see poster in Counseling Office.

 

EXECUTIVE SPEECHES:  February 24 come to the Outdoor Stage and listen to your future Executive Officers give their speech.

GOLD STAR BRIGADE is having a fund raiser, Monday, February 23 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.—Papa John’s Pizza, 18934 Soledad Cyn Rd.  Flyers in the Band Room, or tell them you are there for CHS Band.

 

CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (CHSPE):  The California High School Proficiency Examination will be administered on March 21, 2009.  The registration deadline is February 20, 2009 and costs $92.00.  The late registration date is March 6 and will cost $120.  This exam is for students interested in an alternative to graduating from high school so they could move ahead to higher education or prepare for a career.  You can earn the legal equivalent of a high school diploma by proving your proficiency in basic skills though the CHSPE exam.  You must be 16 years old, or, if 15, must be in your last semester of 10th grade.  See Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office for an application booklet.  For more information, go online to www.chspe.net. The next test date won't be until June 20, 2009.

 

FOOD DRIVE:  Listen up all 3rd period classmates.  ASB is holding their annual food drive all through the month of February.  Lets help out those who are less fortunate by bringing in canned food and sealed toiletries.  The 3rd period class with the most items will win a bagel party.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

CAL POLY POMONA COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE OPEN HOUSE:  The College of Agriculture at Cal Poly Pomona will host an Open House on Saturday, March 7 from 9:00 - 1:00.  Students and their parents will have an opportunity meet faculty, learn about academic programs, witness special demonstrations and more!  RSVP at www.csupomona.edu/agri and click on Open House or stop by the Career Center for additional information.

BOOK DISCUSSION CLUB:  We will meet TODAY in the ROP Office during lunch to finish our discussion on Mr. Smith's book, Ghost Medicine.  We will also choose our next book, so bring suggestions and a copy of the book if possible.

 

 

SENIORS

SENIORS: Is your parent or guardian a CLASSIFIED employee of the William S. Hart School District AND a member of CSEA (California School Employees Association)? Then you could be eligible for scholarships for a vocational school, community college, or a four-year university.  Applications are available in the counseling office. Deadline is March 6, 2009.

 

CSEA State Scholarship offers $1,000 to dependants and spouses of CSEA members. Students must be graduating seniors who plan to continue their education at a trade school or an accredited college and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications are available at www.csea.com/scholarships Deadline is March 31, 2009.
