GENERAL

 

2010 YEARBOOK STAFF: Yearbook is more than "taking pictures," to be honest its hard work, and you don't even get paid! BUT... if you're still interested and you're a hard working Junior or Sophomore who is up to the challenge, then get an application from T2 or the Counseling office. Submit your applications to Mr. McCann or a current yearbook staff member by the end of March.

 

KEY CLUB:  Hey Key Clubbers!!  If you would like to volunteer at the NEW LEASH ON LIFE animal shelter, then please attend a mandatory orientation Saturday, February 21.  Go to room V-1 for more information.

 

RENAISSANCE CARD HOLDERS: Your Disneyland trip is March 20, the cost is $70 and you can pick up trip slips outside the ASB office. The first 108 students to turn in their paperwork and money will go.

 

HEALTH OFFICE:  When you are ill, you must get a pass from your teacher to come up to the Health Office.  It is there that contact will be made with your parents/guardians to arrange for you to go home.  Do not call or text your parents or guardians from the classroom expecting to be summoned to the Health Office. 

 

ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS:  * The Advanced Placement Exams will be given the first two weeks of May.  May 4th - 14th, 2009.

* Students will only be able to sign up and pay for exams March 2 - 13, 2009 in the ASB office.

* The fee for each test is $86, unless student is on a free or reduced lunch.

KEY CLUB:  Hey Canyon High!!!  Key Club is doing a coin drive for Pennies for Patients.  Please donate your coins to your second period class.  The class that has collected the most money by February 20 wins a donut party. 

 

FOOD DRIVE:  Listen up all 3rd period classmates.  ASB is holding their annual food drive all through the month of February.  Lets help out those who are less fortunate by bringing in canned food and sealed toiletries.  The 3rd period class with the most items will win a bagel party.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT MC DONALD’S:  The new McDonald's, located at Golden Valley and the 14 Freeway in the new shopping center is hiring!  If you are at least 16 years old and looking for a job, pick up a permission slip in the Career Center.

 

 

WESTWOOD COLLEGE VISITATION:  Westwood College, which has several locations in Southern California, offers programs in Animation, CAD, Game and Graphic Design, Computer Engineering and Criminal Justice.  A representative will meet with interested students on Thursday, February 19 at 10:30 in Room H1.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY INFORMATION SESSION:  Have you thought about applying to Colorado State University? Admissions representatives will discuss topics such as programs, financial aid, housing and student life on Saturday, February 28 in Glendale from 2:00 - 3:30.  You may stop by the Career Center for details or call (818) 956-5466 to register.

 

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT AT VALLEY TRAILS:  Valley Trails, located in Castaic, are hiring Camp Counselors, Lifeguards, Arts & Crafts Instructors, Go-Cart Staff and more for summer employment.  Are you interested in working as a Camp Counselor, Lifeguard, Art & Crafts Instructor, or Go-Cart Staff?  Valley Trails, located in Castaic, is accepting applications for summer employment.  Stop by the Career Center for a flyer or visit www.vtranch.com.

 

THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM IN MATH AND SCIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH will give students, who will be seniors in the fall,  the chance to talk with scientists and mathematicians about their careers and students will get the real scoop on college and graduate school.  Twenty minority students will be chosen to attend the program and fees are covered by a $2,500 scholarship. Application information is available in the Career Center.

BOOK DISCUSSION CLUB:  We will meet this Friday in the ROP Office during lunch to finish our discussion on Mr. Smith's book, Ghost Medicine.  We will also choose our next book, so bring suggestions and a copy of the book if possible.
