GENERAL

 

CONGRATULATIONS to the following band members who were selected for the All-District Honor Band!  Josh Roberson, Nate Taylor, Trevor DeBeritto, Kevin Fulleman, Josh Derenski, Jeff Lillbridge and Kyle O'Grady.  Also, Nicole Kim, Tempest Lyle and Ryan DeFigueiredo were not only selected, but are also FIRST CHAIR on their instruments.  You may see them in concert at Hart Auditorium on Saturday, March 7th at 7pm.  Congratulations to very talented musicians!

 

RENAISSANCE CARD PERK!  Hey all you Renaissance card holders!!  Don’t forget to bring your Renaissance Card and I.D. on Tuesday, February 10 because the first 100 students to walk into J-1 will get free pizza at lunch!!!  See you there!!!!

 

LIONS CLUB SPEECH CONTEST: All students participating in the Lion's Club Speech contest need to sign up with Mrs. Limbaugh in the library by Friday.  The school contest will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 3:15 in H1.

 

KEY CLUB:         Hey Key Clubbers!!!  Your attendance sheets are due this week.  The best day to turn them in is TOMORROW.  Please turn in your forms in room V-1.

 

AP PSYCHOLOGY 2009-2010:  Interested in the field of Psychology?  This AP course will be open to Juniors and Seniors only.  Topics discussed will be:  Psychological disorders, personality, States of Consciousness, Emotion and Motivation, Social Psychology.  Sensation and Perception and Abnormal Psychology.  Please see Mr. Wolman in room G 210 to sign up.

 

ATTENTION CSF MEMBERS:  We are sorry for the inconvenience, but due to the absence of our advisor, we are starting to collect applications and dues TODAY through Tuesday, February 10.

 

ALL SPEECH AND DEBATE MEMBERS:  be aware that February 21 is the last open IE competition before state qualifications.  Be sure you compete in this tournament!!!!

 

FOOD DRIVE:  Listen up all 3rd period classmates.  ASB is holding their annual food drive all through the month of February.  Lets help out those who are less fortunate by bringing in canned food and sealed toiletries.  The 3rd period class with the most items will win a bagel party.

 

PROM FASHION SHOW:  Attention all Juniors and Seniors.  If you are interested in participating in this year’s Prom Fashion Show, pick up an application at the ASB Office.  All applications are due at the ASB Office TOMORROW.

 

JAZZ/POP: Jazz/Pop auditions are coming soon!  Be sure to "get your act together"!  If you missed the Jazz/Pop meeting last week, please see Mrs. Purdy in the choir room who will answer any questions you might have.  Remember, Jazz/Pop auditions are open to the whole school!

 

VAL-O-GRAMS: Do you want to celebrate Valentine's Day in a big way?  Do you have a special someone (friend or boyfriend/girlfriend) here at Canyon that you would like to honor?  The choirs have just the thing for you.  Val-o-grams will go on sale tomorrow.  Ask any choir student about them.    They cost $7.  For that low cost, your special person will receive a song sung by some of the Madrigals, a chocolate lollipop, a flower, a balloon, and something to treasure always!  Come to the choir room for more information.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

SUMMER PROGRAM AT PEPPERDINE:  Juniors are invited to apply to a summer program which will take place at Pepperdine University.  Students will enroll in 6 - 7 units of undergraduate work, receive college credit and live in undergraduate residences.  Stop by the Career Center for details.

 

CITY OF SANTA CLARITA – CAMP CLARITA POSITIONS:  Attention Seniors:  The City of Santa Clarita is currently accepting applications for their summer day camp program.  Stop by the Career Center and pick up flyers regarding positions such as Recreation Leader and Camp Counselor.

 

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT AT VALLEY TRAILS:  Valley Trails, located in Castaic, are hiring Camp Counselors, Lifeguards, Arts & Crafts Instructors, Go-Cart Staff and more for summer employment.  Are you interested in working as a Camp Counselor, Lifeguard, Art & Crafts Instructor, or Go-Cart Staff?  Valley Trails, located in Castaic, is accepting applications for summer employment.  Stop by the Career Center for a flyer or visit www.vtranch.com.

 

APPAREL NEWS & FOCUS DAYS AT CAL POLY POMONA:  Learn about career and degree opportunities in the apparel business at Cal Poly Pomona on March 5, 6 or 7.  The day will include a tour of classrooms, presentations and demonstrations, displays of latest student-designed clothing lines and more!  Registration information is available in the Career Center.  Summer Bridge Program at The Univ. of the South.

 

THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM in Math and Science at The University of the South will give students, who will be seniors in the fall, the chance to talk with scientists and mathematicians about their careers and students will get the real scoop on college and graduate school.  Twenty minority students will be chosen to attend the program and fees are covered by a $2,500 scholarship. Application information is available in the Career Center.

*STUDENT TASK FORCE:  Is meeting today at lunch in room G-201.

*MATH CLUB:  Is meeting today at lunch in room G-208.

*NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY meeting today at Lunch in room T4. All members must attend.

*YOUNG REPUBLICANS will meet Thursday in Room A-6 at lunch.  Everyone is welcome.  Please come and bring your lunch and we'll talk about the state of politics in America today and what should be done to straighten it all out!

*POKEMON CLUB:  Meets today in E-4 at lunch.

SENIORS

SENIORS: Just a reminder that your SCV Scholarship application is due on Friday, February 6th!! If you have not yet picked up an application hurry down to the counseling office today!! Thousands of dollars are available to SCV high school students! Don't let the Indians get all the money!!

SENIORS:  You can still apply to CSU East Bay (Hayward Hills overlooking San Francisco). They will accept applications through March 1st. Submit your application at www.csumentor.edu. Their total fee package is the lowest compared to all Bay area universities. Good luck!!
