GENERAL

STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SPEND THEIR BRUNCH AND/OR LUNCH TIME LOITERING IN THE G-BUILDING, OR ON THE STAIRWELLS OF THE G-BUILDING.

 

Health Office:  When you are ill, you must get a pass from your teacher to come up to the Health Office.  It is there that contact will be made with your parents/guardians to arrange for you to go home.  Do not call or text your parents or guardians from the classroom expecting to be summoned to the Health Office. 

 

SPEECH AND DEBATE:  We will meet today after school from 3:15 to 5:00 in H1.  Everyone is welcome.

 

This Saturday from 9am to 1pm at College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus.

-Admission is free

-High School Parents and Students are invited

-Meet with college and university reps from across the nation

Workshop Include:

Exploring the UC System- CSU System- SAT & ACT Test Secrets- The Community College: Programs and Transfer- Financial Aid Process- Admission Essays, Recommendations, and Interview- Private School Admission- College Bound Athlete

 

PUBLICITY BOARDS:  Don’t forget to look at the Publicity Boards located throughout the school for information and school events and activities.

 

RUGBY CLUB: All Canyon boys and girls interested in playing rugby this year meet in room A-1 on Thursday, October 9, at lunch.

 

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP:  Please be sure to read to page 125 by Friday.  We will meet on Friday during lunch in H1.

 

HISTORY CLUB:  Students—if you are interested in joining/creating a History Club, see or e-mail Mr. Ward in room A-3 this week. 

 

TEEN READ WEEK DEMONSTRATION:  Come celebrate Teen Read Week Books with Bite by coming to the Pastry demonstration by Cindy Schwanke, head of the culinary department at COC.  The demo will be Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 10:15 in the library.  Pick up a permission slip from Mrs. Limbaugh in the library.

 

INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL:  Sign ups for intramural football are taking place in room C-5.  Get 4 friends and sign up your team in room C-5 at brunch and lunch this week!

 

KEY CLUB APPLICATION FORMS:  Hey Key Clubbers!!  It’s time to turn in your application forms!!  The deadline is Friday, October 10th.  Turn in your applications in room V-1. 

AVID students are selling Heritage Haunt tickets.  It is being held every weekend in October, tickets are $8.  You can buy tickets in room C4. You can also go online to www.scvhaunt.com and buy tickets from CANYON HIGH.

CAREER CENTER NEWS

UC RIVERSIDE VISITATION:  A representative from UC Riverside will meet with students on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 10:45 in the Career Center.  Learn about programs, campus life, application process and more!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

COC JOB & CAREER FAIR:  COC has scheduled two Job Fairs this fall!  The first will take place at the Valencia campus (100 + employers) on 9/24 from 11 - 3 and the second fair will take place on 10/8 at the Canyon Country campus (30+ employers).  Pick up a flyer in the Career Center.

 

CAL ARTS CAP PROGRAM:  Stop by the Career Center to learn how you can take free classes at Cal Arts!  The CAP Program at Cal Arts, in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club, will offer classes such as photography, digital media and music.  Details are posted online at www.calarts.edu/cap or pick up a flyer in the Career Center.

 

MEETINGS

*JOY CLUB MEETING:  There is a meeting in room B-7 at lunch on October 9th.  Bring your lunch.

*KEY CLUB GENERAL MEETING: There is a GENERAL meeting for ALL Key Club members on Wednesday, October 8 at lunch in the gym. 

*NATIONAL ART HONORS SOCIETY meeting on Wednesday the 8th at Lunch in room T4.

*OPERATION US will be meeting in E3 at lunch on Thursday October 9th.  Operation US shirts and information about upcoming presentations will be distributed.  If you have a scheduling conflict, please see Ms. Mast in E3 or Mr. Ballard in A7. 

 

SENIORS

UC APPLICATION AND PERSONAL STATEMENT WORKSHOP:  Seniors planning to apply to a UC campus are invited to attend a UC Application and Personal Statement Workshop on Wednesday, October 8 at 11:25 in the Library.  Permission slips may be picked up in the Career Center.

 

SENIORS:  The Ron Brown Scholar Program awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African American students who plan to pursue undergraduate degrees full time! Over 241 students have been awarded scholarship totaling $40,000 dollars ($10,000 for each year). Please print the application from the Ron Brown website at www.ronbrown.org Deadline is November 1st
