GENERAL

 

ALL CANYON STUDENTS are reminded that when we have minimum day, they may NOT visit other campuses, including Sierra Vista.  Other schools are in full day session and it is a trespassing violation to be on their campus while their school is in session.  Avoid disciplinary action and a trespassing ticket!  Do not visit other schools when Canyon has a minimum day!

 

AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING ON THURSDAY with Mrs. Denny is canceled this Thursday, Sept 18th, due to Back to School Night.  See you on the 25th!

 

ALL CANYON ROP STUDENTS are reminded that when we have minimum day here at Canyon, they are still expected to attend their ROP classes unless instructed other wise by their ROP teacher.

 

BLOOD DRIVE FOR NATE:  Next Thursday, September 25, we will be taking a bus to Kaiser.  If you would like to go and donate blood for Nate, you must see Ms. King in G-105 for paperwork.  Show that Cowboy spirit and sign up today.

 

ASB 4TH/RENAISSANCE is offering a day at Disneyland to all Renaissance card holders on Oct. 10. The cost is $60 and includes tickets, bus, and chaperones. Busses leave school at lunch and will return after the park closes at midnight. Tickets are available in the ASB office and must be purchased by Wednesday Oct. 8th. Since you will be missing afternoon classes, this is open to Renaissance card holders ONLY."

 

CLASS RING ORDER: JUNIORS!  It’s time for your class to order their class rings.  Your class ring will rank high in the commemoratives of your “2010” Graduation.  YOUR JOSTENS REPRESENTATIVE WILL BE ON CAMPUS FOR YOUR CLASS RING ORDER ON:  A-M Thursday, Sept. 18th, N-Z Friday, Sept. 19th.  During Brunches and Lunch on the Outdoor Stage. ORDERING INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE IN THE ASB OFFICE NOW!!  BE SURE TO LOOK YOURS OVER BEFORE ORDERING DAY.  Visit www.jostens.com to view an online catalog and design your ring.  BRING YOUR ORDER FORM AND $60.00 DEPOSIT ON THIS DATE.  JOSTENS WILL ALSO BE AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

ATTENTION RENAISSANCE CARD HOLDERS: ASB will be giving away free bagels to the first 50 renaissance cardholders that come to K-1.  This is at both brunches only on Friday September 19th.  You must have your renaissance card and your school ID to be eligible!

BOOK DISCUSSION:  We have selected our next book to read.  We will be reading A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ismael Beah.  The cost of the book in paperback is $11.50.  To order your copy, see Mrs. Limbaugh in the library this week.

 

STUDENTS:  Want to earn some scholarship money?  Then participate in the ACSA Region XV Speech Contest entitled, "If I were to tell you you're my hero!"  The speech must be 3 minutes max and should reflect on an educator that the student considers his/her hero.  The speech will be judged on: content, delivery, gestures, expressiveness, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm.  Our school contest will be held on Thursday Sept. 25 at 3:15 in H1.  The winner will then participate in the district competition to be held at the district office on 10/2.  For information, please see Mrs. Limbaugh in the library.

 

KEY CLUB NEW EVENTS: Key Clubbers!! If you would like to volunteer for the River Rally or Hunger Defense Fund Walk-a-thon, happening this Saturday, September 20, please come to V-1 for more information. 

 

Attention all Juniors :Connecting 2 Success- Do you want to find a job or internship? Do you want to meet business professionals? Do you want to participate in an off campus training event? Do you want to meet local business and community members?

If so…than this program is for you!  Connecting to Success is a high impact workforce preparation program in a business conference format. Students are transported to an off campus meeting site for a day filled with relevant information and exercises designed to prepare for the world of work.

Date of Event: October 2-Space is limited…sign up in the main office with Mr. Getz immediately

 

YOU HAVE CRUISED THE STREETS—NOW OWN A PART OF THEM:  Canyon’s Choir is having a raffle for a Santa Clarita Valley Street Sign at Back To School Night, TONIGHT.  Raffle Tickets are $5.00 each.  You may purchase the raffle tickets in the Choir Room, located in building “Q”.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

UC RIVERSIDE VISITATION:  A representative from UC Riverside will meet with students on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 10:45 in the Career Center.  Learn about programs, campus life, application process and more!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY VISITATION:  Attention juniors and seniors:  Meet with an admissions representative from Azusa Pacific University on Thurs., 9/25 at 8:15 in the Career Center.  Stop by the Career Center for a permission slip!

 

CAL ARTS CAP PROGRAM:  Stop by the Career Center to learn how you can take free classes at Cal Arts!  The CAP Program at Cal Arts, in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club, will offer classes such as photography, digital media and music.  Details are posted online at www.calarts.edu/cap or pick up a flyer in the Career Center.

 

PREVIEW DAY AT SACRAMENTO STATE:  Preview Day Sacramento State will take place on Sat., Sept. 27.  Activities include information sessions on admissions, financial aid, campus tours and housing.  Stop by the Career Center for more information or go to www.csus.edu/previewday.

 

THE FOLLOWING SCHOOLS have scheduled Information Sessions in the Los Angeles area during the next month:  Colgate University - Sat., 9/20 in Pasadena, Tulane University - Wed., 10/1 in Universal City, Carnegie Mellon - Sun., Oct. 19 in Los Angeles

 

ACADEMY OF ART VISITATION:  A representative from the Academy of Art Univ., located in San Francisco, will meet with students on Thurs., 9/18 at 11:50 in the Career Center.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

UCLA VISITATION:  Seniors are invited to meet with an admissions representative from UCLA on Wed., 10/1 at 9:20 in Room H1.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

MEETINGS

 

THE YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB will meet today, Thursday, in room A-6 during brunch.  Please plan to attend this brief meeting so that we can organize future meetings and activities.

 

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY has a rescheduled meeting at lunch on Friday in C7. Please come to get your duties for club day.

 

SENIORS

 

SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL AID MEETING: September 25th in B-lecture at lunch. Come get some general information on how to navigate your way financially through college. Learn about our scholarship and financial aid opportunities and resources. See you there!!

 

MR. CANYON APPLICATION:  Hey all you senior boys out there, do you think you have what it takes to be the next Mr. Canyon?  If so, come to the ASB Office at brunch and lunch from Monday, September 15 to Friday, September 19 to pick up your application.  Let’s see if you really have what it takes to strut your stuff!!
