ALL CANYON ROP STUDENTS are reminded that when we have minimum day here at Canyon, they are still expected to attend their ROP classes unless instructed other wise by their ROP teacher.

CLASS RING ORDER: JUNIORS!  It’s time for your class to order their class rings.  Your class ring will rank high in the commemoratives of your “2010” Graduation.  YOUR JOSTENS REPRESENTATIVE WILL BE ON CAMPUS FOR YOUR CLASS RING ORDER ON:  A-M Thursday, Sept. 18^th,  N-Z Friday, Sept. 19^th.  During Brunches and Lunch on the Outdoor Stage. BOOK DISCUSSION:  We have selected our next book to read.  We will be reading A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ismael Beah.  The cost of the book in paperback is $11.50.  To order your copy, see Mrs. Limbaugh in the library this week.

STUDENTS:  Want to earn some scholarship money?  Then participate in the ACSA Regin XV Speech Contest entitled, "If I were to tell you you're my hero!"  The speech must be 3 minutes max and should reflect on an educator that the student considers his/her hero.  The speech will be judged on: content, delivery, gestures, expressiveness, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm.  Our school contest will be held on Thursday Sept. 25 at 3:15 in H1.  The winner will then participate in the district competition to be held at the district office on 10/2.  For information, please see Mrs. Limbaugh in the library.

DODGE, DUCK, DIVE AND DODGE!  Dodge ball is starting. Sign up in C-5 at both brunches and at lunch this Week!

OPERATION US:  Operation US training day permission slips are due to Ms. Mast in E3 by this Tuesday September 16th.  We will be meeting at the front of the school at 7:50 am on Friday September 19th.  See you there!

KEY CLUB NEW EVENTS: Key Clubbers!! If you would like to volunteer for the River Rally or Hunger Defense Fund Walk-a-thon, happening this Saturday, September 20, please come to V-1 for more information. 

ALL CANYON STUDENTS are reminded that when we have minimum day, they may NOT visit other campuses, including Sierra Vista.  Other schools are in full day session and it is a trespassing violation to be on their campus while their school is in session.  Avoid disciplinary action and a trespassing ticket!  Do not visit other schools when Canyon has a minimum day!

Attention all Juniors :Connecting 2 Success- Do you want to find a job or internship? Do you want to meet business professionals? Do you want to participate in an off campus training event? Do you want to meet local business and community members?

If so…than this program is for you!

Connecting to Success is a high impact workforce preparation program in a business conference format. Students are transported to an off campus meeting site for a day filled with relevant information and exercises designed to prepare for the world of work.

YOU HAVE CRUISED THE STREETS—NOW OWN A PART OF THEM:  Canyon’s Choir is having a raffle for a Santa Clarita Valley Street Sign at Back To School Night, Thursday, September 18.  Raffle Tickets are $5.00 each.  You may purchase the raffle tickets in the Choir Room, located in building “Q”.

CAREER CENTER NEWS

ACADEMY OF ART VISITATION: A representative from the Academy of Art Univ., located in San Francisco, will meet with students on Thurs., 9/18 at 11:50 in the Career Center.  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center

MEETINGS

SPANISH CLUB:  Attention Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 students –there will be a Spanish Club meeting today at lunch in room D-2.  Take advantage of this exciting way to learn Spanish.  Everyone is welcome!

TRUTH BE TOLD: We meet this Wednesday in E5 at lunch.  If you're interested in serving your community or exploring your faith, please stop by. Everyone is welcome!

SENIORS

UC APPLICATION AND PERSONAL STATEMENT WORKSHOP:  Seniors planning to apply to a UC campus are invited to attend a UC Application and Personal Statement Workshop on Wednesday, October 8 at 11:25 in the Library.  Permission slips are required, pick them up in the Career Center.

SENIOR BBQ:  Seniors, you must pick up your entrance wristbands before 1^st and 2^nd period and at brunch on Wednesday, September 17, in front of J-1.  Don’t forget to wear your senior shirt and to bring a sharpie, camera and ID Card.  See you there. 

MR. CANYON APPLICATION:  Hey all you senior boys out there, do you think you have what it takes to be the next Mr. Canyon?  If so, come to the ASB Office at brunch and lunch from Monday, September 15 to Friday, September 19 to pick up your application.  Let’s see if you really have what it takes to strut your stuff!!
