GENERAL

 

SCHOOL PICTURES ARE IN and can be picked up in the ASB office before school, brunch and lunch in J-7

 

All boys interested in participating on Canyon's Athletic Golf Team please attend an informational meeting on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 12:30 (lunch) in the B-Core.

 

Who should attend this meeting?  *Incoming students (any grade level) who are new to Canyon.*

*Members of the 2008 Canyon Boys’ golf team.* We will discuss the tryout procedures for the 2009 season.  If you are unable to attend this meeting, please contact Coach Harris in the B-Core.

 

KEY CLUB HOURS DUE:  Returning Key Club members, your hours are due by the 12th of September.

 

SAT PRACTICE TEST: Attention juniors and seniors! Revolution Prep is offering a practice SAT on Saturday, September 13th, right here on campus- and the best part is the test is only $20.  The real SAT costs nearly $30 more!  Bring your check made out to Canyon ASB by Friday the 12 to Ms. Jones in E5.  Questions?  Stop by to see her anytime!  This is a great deal, but there's limited space, so act quickly!

 

ATTENTION ALL CSF MEMBERS—TODAY IS THE LAST DAY WE ACCEPT completed application forms, hour sheets, and dues during lunch in C-8.  Dues are $5 for freshmen and sophomores, and $15 for juniors and seniors.  Please pay all dues in cash or check made payable to CSF.

 

THE SERVICE ACADEMY ORIENTATION PROGRAM will be held Thursday, September 11th in the Hart High Cafeteria from 7-9pm. The event will be hosted by Congressman, Buck McKeon. Representatives from all the Service Academies, plus representatives from the Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC Scholarship Programs will be in attendance. Interested students and parents are encouraged to participate. Call Tom Dierckman at 661 254-2111 with questions.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

USC VISITATION:  A representative from USC will meet with juniors and seniors on Thursday, 9/18 at 8:00 in room H1.  Juniors and seniors may pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

MEDICAL CAREERS SEMINAR:  Are you interested in exploring a career in the medical field?  Representatives from the Radiology Department, Therapy Department and Operating Room at Henry Mayo will discuss topics such as educational requirements, job duties, job outlooks and salary ranges on Thurs., 9/11 at 9:20 in the Library.  Students in all grade levels are invited to attend!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

MEETINGS

*TRUTH BE TOLD-- A new faith-based community service group will meet this Wednesday at lunch in E5- we'll discuss the Bible and opportunities to help our community through service.  Everyone is welcome!

 *THESPIAN SOCIETY MEMBERS: The first meeting for the International Thespian Society will be Thursday September 11th at lunch in the Q-Theatre. Please be prompt.

*OPERATION US: Operation US will be meeting TODAY at lunch in E3.  Please bring your completed permission slips for our upcoming training day.  See Ms. Mast or Mr. Ballard if you need permission slips or have any questions.

*NAHS MEETING:  National Art Honor Society meeting is TODAY in room T-4 at lunch.  New members welcome. 

*J001 MEETING:  There will be a J001 Meeting TODAY in B-7 at lunch.  We will be talking about election and up-coming events.  Bring a friend and your lunch.

*STUDENT TASK FORCE: The Student Task Force meets every Thursday in room G-201.

*POKEMON CLUB: Attention all aspiring Pokemon Trainers.  Meet in E-4 Thursday at lunch to trade, battle and have fun!

*NHS:  There is a mandatory NHS meeting on Friday at lunch in G-105.

 

SENIORS

SENIORS!!  Remember to turn in your senior BBQ slips by TODAY.  If you lost yours, come to the ASB Office during brunch and lunch.

 

MR. CANYON APPLICATION:  Hey all you senior boys out there, do you think you have what it takes to be the next Mr. Canyon?  If so, come to the ASB Office at brunch and lunch from Monday, September 15 to Friday, September 19 to pick up your application.  Let’s see if you really have what it takes to strut your stuff!!

*PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP FOR SENIORS: The FRIENDS of Arts Education at the Cerritos Center are offering scholarships to seniors who wish to pursue a career in the performing arts. Scholarships are available in the following five categories: classical voice, dance, drama, instrumental music, and musical theater.
