GENERAL

 

SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRESS REPORTS:  If you would like to receive a supplemental progress report, please see Mrs. Hettema in the Counseling Office between 7:30am and 8:00am Friday morning to pick one up.  If you have a 7:00am class, you may pick one up Thursday after your last class.

 

RALLY:  Come out and show your school pride on September 5th.  Canyon’s first RALLY is during brunch on Friday in the Main Gym.  Support your class by wearing your class color:  Seniors-Black, Juniors-Green, Sophomores-White and Freshman-Yellow. 

 

CANYON FOOTBALL GAMES:  A reminder to students that once you enter the football game and leave—YOU MAY NOT RE-ENTER!  If you need a sweater, blanket etc., remember to bring it in with you when you arrive.  Also, skateboards and scooters are NOT allowed in the stadium parking lot—DO NOT BRING THEM WITH YOU!!!  Since this is a school-sponsored event, the Canyon High Dress Code will be strictly enforced.  ANY inappropriate attire (clothing, accessories, or headgear) will result in entrance refusal and possible removal if non-compliant.

 

THE SERVICE ACADEMY ORIENTATION PROGRAM will be held Thursday, September 11th in the Hart High Cafeteria from 7-9pm. The event will be hosted by Congressman, Buck McKeon. Representatives from all the Service Academies, plus representatives from the Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC Scholarship Programs will be in attendance. Interested students and parents are encouraged to participate. Call Tom Dierckman at 661 254-2111 with questions.

 

ATTENTION ALL CSF MEMBERS—or anyone interested in joining CSF, you can still pick up application forms in room C-8.  We will also be accepting completed application forms, hour sheets, and dues during lunch in C-8 beginning September 3 through Sept 10.  Dues are $5 for freshmen and sophomores, and $15 for juniors and seniors.  Please pay all dues in cash or check made payable to CSF.

 

SAT PREPARATION:  Kaplan Test Prep is starting a class at Golden Valley this Saturday, 9/6.There are 12 sessions on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Canyon students will be given a reduced price.   Flyers available in Counseling office.

 

COC CLASSES: Did you take a class at COC during the summer or even last spring?  It is the student's responsibility to request that the transcript from COC is sent to Canyon's Registrar. You can order them online from COC's website today!

 

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: Have you had problems writing essays in the past? Are you having problems writing them now? Do you need help writing that college essay? If you answered yes to any of these questions, there is a place you can get help. Come to Writer's Workshop with Mr. Fannon in C-1 every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before school and at lunch for all your writing and English needs.

KEY CLUB EXTRA HOURS:  Key clubbers, if you need extra hours, there is a canned food drive.  Bring 5 cans for one-hour credit, there is a three-hour max.  Please bring all cans to V-1.

 

ADULT AND YOUTH ASB CARDS ARE HERE!!!!! Come pick up your parents ASB cards in the ASB office, J-7

 

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP:  Come to the Book Discussion Meeting this Friday at lunch in H1.  Bring your copy of Montana 1948.  Please read to page 35.  Bring your lunch and we'll see you in H1.

 

ALL STUDENTS:  If you have not had an ID card made for this year please come to the textbook center during brunch or lunch to have one made.  Remember all students must have an ID card.

 

REMINDER TO ALL STUDENTS:  Textbook damage forms are due back to the textbook center by Sept. 5th.  If you have lost the form you received at registration come to the textbook center to get another.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

 

MEDICAL CAREERS SEMINAR:  Are you interested in exploring a career in the medical field?  Representatives from the Radiology Department, Therapy Department and Operating Room at Henry Mayo will discuss topics such as educational requirements, job duties, job outlooks and salary ranges on Thurs., 9/11 at 9:20 in the Library.  Students in all grade levels are invited to attend!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

UC MERCED VISITATION:  Juniors and seniors are invited to our first college visitation of the year on Friday, 9/5 at 10:35 in the Career Center.  Meet with an admissions representative from UC Merced and learn about programs, campus life, admissions and more!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

USC VISITATION:  A representative from USC will meet with juniors and seniors on Thursday, 9/18 at 8:00 in room H1.  Juniors and seniors may pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

MEETINGS

 

STUDENT TASK FORCE: The Student Task Force meets every Thursday in room G201. 

 

LEAF CLUB:  Hey all you environmentally aware cowboys! LEAF Club meeting on Monday, September 8th, at lunch, in Room K-5.  New members are welcomed."

 

SPORTS

 

BOYS SOCCER TRYOUTS:  Tryouts are at lunch on the football field.  Tryouts will run all week—September 2-5.  Questions—see Coach Savage in room F-1.
